    In TF2, there’s an achievement you get by being healed by an enemy medic as a disguised spy, and whenever you get an achievement, it is announced in chat and a big trophy pops above your head, even if you are disguised, which blows your cover. Most cases of "Screw it, we're giving spoilers" achievements. Most developers are generally good about making these hidden achievements, but every so often, you get one that forgets and looking at the achievement list in-game spoils big plot points. The only ones I forgive for this are Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10... look, if you haven't figured out BY NOW that it's all Dr. Wily's fault, and seeing "Whomp Wily!" as the name of the "beat the game" achievement in both games, I don't know what to tell you.

      then again some games will mark majority of the achievements as "spoiler" "hidden" and when that achievement is not story related, but requires specific actions/choices throughout the playthrough, it can be frustrating to only be missing one achievement in the game after maybe playing it multiple times trying to get everything, to then have to look up what the achievement wants. this is without talking about the achievements that even with reading their descriptions it might still be a moon logic test to figure it out.
      on PlayStation the console does allow you to after a prompt look at the "spoiler" trophies this at least helps with the former.

It's not like the Easter egg trophies in the Remastered versions of modern warfare's 1 and 2 where they're hidden because they're little nods to the previous games and you'd only really attempt them if you had played them before (I got the trophy for shooting Shepard at the beginning of MW2 without realizing it was actually a trophy).

What you have to do: find a crab in every level of the Lost to the Echoes campaign, almost all of them are hidden in places you would never even think of looking it up, to unlock a secret campaign called The Other Side, completing this campaign awards the achievement, which is easier said than done because the campaign is Dark Souls on wheels.
      The second: Worthy. Description: Earn the approval of the Elders. What you have to do: finish the The Other Side campaign again, but this time you have to take a secret route in every section of the campaign, where every single one either has a time to be completed that leaves no room for error (but you can try as many times as you want) or require you to go really far from the track to press a button to open a hidden door (which can be missed and you have to reset the level to try again).

Some of those spells are unique rewards for ranking up PvP covenants, and are next to impossible 6 years later when most people still playing, aren’t doing multiplayer. Hell, casual new game playthroughs of ds1 can be sub 2 hour if you know what you are doing. At some point you have to question whether focusing on achievements is valuable. Many games require me to play multiplayer for certain achievements, or to do something difficult that I do not think is fun. The simplest answer is to ignore those achievements, and regard any achievements I don't want to get as optional - which, indeed, they are.
    Of course, I frequently get grief from other players when I look at something that could be done and say "but I don't want to," as I go to do something else. Even in games as open-ended as Minecraft, I cannot count the number of people on multiplayer servers who stand in my base staring at various ores in the walls or floor, then eventually screw up the courage to ask why I haven't mined them "yet."
    It often takes a surprising amount of convincing before they accept that no, I don't care about that ore and yes, they can have it. The idea that I simply DON'T WANT very much redstone or lapis confuses them, and they often make helpful suggestions of what I could do with it. Similarly, I get all kinds of advice on how I could get the last couple achievements on various games, and it confuses people when I literally don't want them because I don't care.

    I am a huge stealth lover, especially in Dishonored and I've done the clean hands and never detected shit, but a huge annyance about having to do it for the achievement, was that not only rats you've summoned count as a kill from you and fails the achievement, but when an enemy dies at any other point, even if not by your hand, that also fails clean hands. The very first mission after the prologue has the biggest problem with this. It took me ages to work out why it was always claiming one person died in the summary. It's because there's an Overseer who gets mercy-killed due to being infected with the plague, and even though you're not the one to shoot him, it's his friends that do, it still counts as a death.
    To get around this, you have to interrupt their conversation about killing him before they can do it. If you just throw glass or a dart, it alerts them and they stop their dialogue then just walk away once their alert meter has gone back down.

    Oh, I loved the way Ellen talked about Multiplayer Trophies/Achievements. That really is the only way to talk about those horrid things. Seriously, the only reason I haven't Platinumed a handful of games is because of multiplayer trophies... though I haven't Platinumed the rest generally because I don't have the time, patience with RNG, or skill to pull them all off, haha.
    I also wholeheartedly agree about achievements that force you to play a certain way. In general, my idea of stealth is "if no one lives to tell about it, it counts as stealth."
    I'm okay with having to replay a game for a trophy if it's a game I like, and it's because I'm trying to see the results of branching story content... but even then, no more than two playthroughs, please. But the rest of those reasons you mentioned, like the way The Last of Us games do it, are really dick moves.
    I'm of a split mind for collectibles. I'm generally okay with them as long as they're not missable, not too many of them, and there's some kind of quality of life aspect to help pinpoint their locations so you don't spend endless hours finding the last few. So, InFamous = good; The Last of Us = bad.
    At least with awkward trophies, you can always use the "completionist" excuse that you wanted to do as much as you could. :)
    Okay, so this ended being a rambly commentary on the video. Woops.

    • @kyuubinaruto17
      @kyuubinaruto17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My self-imposed rule on achievements is I'll go completionist on them if it seems attainable for me. Something like Gears of War's "Seriously" achievement where you have to kill like 10 thousand people gets a big nope from me.
      Achievements for playing one specific way are fine, because there's usually a branching path where you can get to see all the content and it's easiest to just stick with one way to see both sides. Like Infamous. It doesn't pay to be neutral, because each set of powers is distinctly linked to your moral alignment, as well as the drawn cutscenes, so playing fully good and fully bad allows you to get everything out of game.

    • @AzureKnight2
      @AzureKnight2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kyuubinaruto17 For sure. I largely agree with a game like InFamous. I loved playing the two roles of the games.
      And I'm with you 100% on certain achievements... if they're going to take too much time or cause too much grief (usually like playing on the hardest difficulty), I don't want to go through that. I'd rather have fun with another game than replay most games on harder difficulties. Same reason I avoid Soulsborne games... sure, I could probably beat them eventually, but I'd rather have fun with something else.

    • @kyuubinaruto17
      @kyuubinaruto17 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AzureKnight2 Well, I'd say it depends on the game when it comes to difficulty. If you enjoy the game then I don't see why not make it harder.
      Even before achievements playing things on a harder difficulty was always about proving to yourself you could, unless it's one of those games where you can only see the true ending on the hardest level. For most games it only locks you out of things if you're on the lowest difficulty.
      Which can be bull anyway because of region difficultys. Streets of Rage 3 locked you out of moving past level 5 out of 7 if you played the easiest difficulty, but the American normal was the Japanese hard, and so if you played on easy you're playing the Japanese normal.

      This issue is so frustrating to me. I like to scan the achievement list for games because sometimes there are achievements that require a stupid amount of grinding and I'd rather spread it out over my actual playthrough than finish the game and then have to go back and do something tedious for hours, or a whole new playthrough where I just do one tiny thing different for an achievement. So, you have secret achievements that are ideal for hiding story spoilers but I can still see all the "arbitrary challenge" achievements.
      BUT THEN, you have some stupid developers making secret achievements for things that you might never ever think of doing in the game, making it necessary to go look up the secret achievements if I want to avoid annoying post-game stuff anyway, and rendering the whole exercise completely fucking pointless.
