And then on a second playthrough you notice how dark it is that the villagers joke about her inventions being dangerous. And how she comments on Robo not being evil by nature, shifting responsibility to the one who build him. It reveals the guilt she feels for not being able to save her mom all those years ago. Everything is JUST SO GOOD it makes you want to cry! ;w;

Normalize crying about beautiful stories and experiences, whatever they are. Movies, books, or video games. We're emotional creatures, and beauty turns us more emotional, and that's really good
Best RPG! I remember being a little kid watching my dad play this game while I sat in his lap. Today I still play through it from time to time. Chrono Trigger was the gateway to FF, Dragon Quest and even KH. I plan on playing through it with my little kids just like my dad did with me and my siblings. Funny how much one video game can impact your entire childhood.
@@HypocritesExposdWell, if you ever decide to play Chrono Trigger, I may be able to go over the different ports: SNES (Super Nintendo) : The classic and "honorable" way to play Chrono Trigger. Since it's the SNES version, it will muffle audio when an attack or other action in battle is performed. PS1: Adds anime cutscenes but also has slower load times. DS: Often considered the "definitive version." It contains a new, more descriptive text translation, compressed audio that doesn't muffle when attacking, the Arena of Ages (though it's pretty forgettable) a new area called the Lost Sanctum (contains a bunch of side quests) but I don't think they're worth your time in comparison to the "main story" side quests, and the post game areas of the Dimensional Vortexes. Completing the Dimensional Vortexes can grant you access to a way to unlock the 13th ending, which is supposed to tie into the story of Chrono Cross. iOS/Mobile: Basically like the DS port, but with a different sprite font, controller support, features an auto-battle command and most likely uses the original SNES audio. PC/Steam: Basically like the mobile port but it uses the original sprite detail and keeps the content from the DS version. It's also the fastest of all the other ports, auto-bookmarks/saves after entering a loading zone, and allows you to move diagonally on the *overworld.* Just like the mobile port, the audio will not be compressed like the DS version or muffled when an attack is playing out. Make sure you visit the Mayor's House/Manor at the beginning of the game. The NPCs should tell you about the game's mechanics. Oh. And something to be mindful of is that if you're playing Chrono Trigger on an SNES emulator, there will be a point in the game where it will require you to press and hold both L and R then to press A to activate a certain button to progress through the game. So you'll need to attach said L and R button combination to one single key.
well, my reactions were mostly the same when I first played it... except for the first encounter with Lavos where my jaw dropped and I had to save, leave the game for the day and go outside because I couldn't believe what just happened :))
And THIS, my friend, is the reason why this game has been LEGENDARY ever since it came out in 1995, 26 years ago ! Glad you could experience it yourself.
Seriously when I coincidentally came across this video I was shocked that younger generations enjoy this game at all. Its a testament how great this game is. It was incredibly ahead of its time, and had some of the greatest score as well. A game that I feel comes close in past 10 years or so in music department was Xenoblade for me.
Fun fact: ozzie, slash and flea are named as tributes to some of the biggest rock stars of the time. Ozzie ( Osborne) Slash from guns n Rose's Flea from red hot chilli peppers
In the original Japanese version, there is a running joke where the side villains are named after food. Chrono Cross has Solt and Peppor. Ozzie, Flea, and Slash were originally named variations on Vinegar, Mayonnaise, and Soy Sauce. The U.S. translator kept one of the in-jokes though. ...that's what that whole "Ozzie's in a Pickle!" - joke is about. His japanese name is General Venegir
@@rjenyawd Even better, in the original SNES release there is a villager in Dorino village who names them and claims they are 'Tone-deaf, evil fiends!' Guess Ted Woolsey doesn't like them?
@@WhiteFangofWar lol. I think it's more likely Woolsey was just poking fun at their name origins as an Easter egg for people who recognized their English name references. It makes me wonder if the Japanese version has that line as a condiment/food joke. Lol.
What a masterpiece. The art, music, story, and game design are all just incredible. Playing this back in the late 90s absolutely blew my mind, and shifted my whole perspective on the potential of video games, from "just games" to true art. It's amazing how beautiful it still is today, 25 years later -- a truly timeless experience.
I've always said that if I could lose the memory of any one game and get the chance to experience it once again anew, it would absolutely be chrono trigger.
That was beautiful. It gives me a little hope when new generations can appreciate a masterwork like Chrono Trigger, and there's something to be said for seeing all this again through someone else's eyes. This was maybe the first game to really have a profound effect on me (Yuji Horii seems to have a knack for this) and that feeling has only grown stronger over time.
In a soundtrack full of absolute bangers, I think the credits music is my favorite. I love love love when games have a unique credits theme, not simply a medley of themes from the rest of the soundtrack. Chrono Trigger is the best of both worlds!
This game is a masterpiece, glad to see people still discovering it. Re-playing it to experience all the diferent endings is also recommended and fun. Love this game, it is one of the top 10 RPG's ever made.
Now, onto New Game+ and face Lavos at different points of the game to unlock other 12 different endings. And after you are done with CT, be sure to play Another Eden for mobile, a spiritual successor written by Masato Kato as well.
In a game that had so many twists and turns that weren't common to the gaming world, Magus joining the party when you decide not to fight him was the biggest. That moment was utterly mind-blowing.
Playing and beating this game back in the day was truly magical... I had to rent it from the video store because games were expensive. No internet back then for FAQs or anything, just you and the game.
I cried together with you, this game is so beautiful, along with FF6 as one of the best RPG of all time. Love your honest reactions. Please keep the content coming ❤️
I am filled with so much excitement watching someone on a genuine first blind playthrough of Chrono Trigger! Especially watching your thoughts when asked if you'll fight Magus. Chrono Trigger is so important to me, I attribute my name to it too. With this excitement, I hope to catch your streams!
Fun fact The 3 gurus melchior, belthasar and gaspar are inspired by the 3 wise kings/mage kings (they have a couple English names I believe) who went to nazaret following the shooting star to celebrate Jesus's birth by gifting gold, incense and myrrh. In spain they're our version of santa claus
I had so many emotions when i first played through this game. It was a turning point for me when it came to video games, one of the first true rpgs i'd ever played, the way this game made me feel then still affects me today. this game is a classic, thx for sharing your time with it with us.
Many thanks for this! I stumbled across your channel by way of your FF6 playthrough, which was also very enjoyable. Chrono Trigger was the very first game of this kind that I have ever played, and that same summer, a friend was playing FF6, which I wound up comparing to Chrono Trigger on more than one occcasion! XD There are indeed many magical moments to be found in Chrono Trigger, as well as epic feels to be had to accompany them.
Favourite game of all time... Instant sub. Still blows my mind that they saved a song as good as "To Far Away Times" for the ending, such a great reward
If you haven't already you should check out the musical of this game they did a great job with it. Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana were my two favorites when it came to music and storylines.
Because of the cutscene I'm sure it's canon that Glenn becomes human again even if you have Magus join you, I don't doubt Magus would've reverted the curse for him if he could.
She usually is underleveled by 10 levels or so each time she goes against a boss like that Like in Temple of the ancients in ff7, the recommended lvl there is like 46, she was 36 at best xD
This definitely brought the feels on again... Was nice to watch someone experience this for the first time! The whole thing is truly a special experience.
Your reactions to this game are absolutely adorable. I loved that you would read the lines; a voice-acted Chrono Trigger has been a fantasy of mine for a long time
I loved your genuine reactions, made me remember my own reactions when I first play this game 18 years ago, well actually my brother played it, I saw him beating this game 2 or 3 times before I actually got the courage to play it 'cause I was scared of playing it by myself. You made me very happy with this video, Thank you!!
2 things some people might miss from the anime cutscene from the end: 1 - the green haired guy leaving the castle was Frog, having his curse removed, he back to a human form and was receiving his official knighthood from the king. 2 - the baby Lucca found was actually Schalla, Magus's sister, reincarnated. Lucca bring her back home and create and orphanage to take care of her and other orphan kids. Also, the anime cutscene at the end was created after Chrono Cross was released, as a way to try link some of the events from both games.
Its funny, in all my playthroughs of the game (probably well over 30 at this point), I never did the scene with bringing Crono back without Marle and/or Lucca in the party. I never have seen that line from Frog before. So I'm glad I got to see it here! I just always assumed the game just put Marle into the scene automatically since she's Crono's love interest. Also, if you manage to stop the machine in Lucca's house before Lara's legs get crushed, in the final scene at the fair, she's standing at demanding that Taban dance with her.

Later I played it with an adapter. Then tried to get through an English version on emulator, with faulty graphics. Finally finished it on DS. By then I'd seen the early part of the game so many times over that I was a bit fed up with it. If only they'd just released the bloody thing back in the 90s. 😓
Thanks Sarah for the playthrough!
Hey Sarah, you should know Chrono Trigger has 16 different endings so there is a lot more to experience if thats your thing. great video!
I remember staying up all day and night during the summer of 97 playing this..I was absolutely addicted..times were so simple back then and now I'm 37 :(
same here. This magical game gave many joys to our generation.
Chrono trigger ending can best be described as a feel good punch to the gut, it's so satisfying to see the people from all times baking you up, so sad saying goodbye to all your friend so uplifting and hopeful seeing the world you help save with that wonderful musical theme!
Everything is JUST SO GOOD it makes you want to cry! ;w;
I play through every couple years. Every time Magus' music gives me chills
From framed posters on my wall, to ring tones, to the soundtrack and owning every port. It warms my heart, to see crono through fresh eyes. You should try the spiritual successor. I am Setsuna. Thanks for the reminisce.
You actually did the Black Omen first thing? That's like the last dungeon. Good job making it through!
I was convinced she wouldn't get through the first mutant without the status protection armors
One of my classmate told my teacher that the reason why dinosaurs got extinct because Lavos fell on the earth a million years ago 😂😂😂
And the UFo sightings is because Chrono was looking for his mom 🤣🤣
Automatic A+
Lmao awesome!
Your classmate didn't lie.
We don't know, it could possibly be true
Your classmate has a good taste.
You edited everything out except the battles you lost and I really respect that.
Fun fact: if one brings Magus to the scene at Cyrus's grave, he will turn away during Masamune's strengthening
This game was so masterfully written. It's hard to believe it takes a huge steamy dump on like 99% of games that came after it to this day.
How old were might I ask? I want to introduce the game to my child, but not sure when is a good time.
@@HypocritesExposdWell, if you ever decide to play Chrono Trigger, I may be able to go over the different ports:
SNES (Super Nintendo) : The classic and "honorable" way to play Chrono Trigger.
@@timsohn7057 Not surprising, since Mitsuda was the composer of both games
I am SO glad that 17:08 got the appreciation for my favourite track in the game.
Fun fact: ozzie, slash and flea are named as tributes to some of the biggest rock stars of the time.
Ozzie ( Osborne)
Slash from guns n Rose's
Flea from red hot chilli peppers
Lol.
I thought that was pretty obvious.
Absolutely incredible watching someone discover this masterpiece. Almost like playing it for the first time again. :)
I believe that baby Lucaa picks up has to do something with the next sequel, Chrono Cross.
In a soundtrack full of absolute bangers, I think the credits music is my favorite. I love love love when games have a unique credits theme, not simply a medley of themes from the rest of the soundtrack. Chrono Trigger is the best of both worlds!
nothing can compare with Corridors of Time.
Go look up _To Far Away Times (Chrono Trigger) Vocal: Sarah Alainn._ You're welcome.
This game is a masterpiece, glad to see people still discovering it. Re-playing it to experience all the diferent endings is also recommended and fun. Love this game, it is one of the top 10 RPG's ever made.
Top 1
I loved your reaction when Frog attacked Robo. That gasp was definitely heartfelt.
Robo best boy
The first time I played this game I got the ending where Crono and Nadia float away together with the balloons for the bell. Love this game!
Now, onto New Game+ and face Lavos at different points of the game to unlock other 12 different endings. And after you are done with CT, be sure to play Another Eden for mobile, a spiritual successor written by Masato Kato as well.
Actually there's Chrono Cross, which is an actual successor.
Eh. While it is a great game on its own, it falls short as a sequel to this game, imo.
@@Xeno_Solarus it's hardly a direct sequel though. They didn't do the best job in continuity.
“One among you, will shortly parish.”
GOOSEBUMPS! Still! After all these years!
'To Far Away Times' truly is my favorite bitter sweet ending theme!
In a game that had so many twists and turns that weren't common to the gaming world, Magus joining the party when you decide not to fight him was the biggest. That moment was utterly mind-blowing.
You just played one of the best videogames ever made in the entire history, thank you for giving you the chance to play this magnificent game :D
Word! :D My two most favourite games growing up! :D
Corridors of time, this OST changed my live, when I first arrived at the magic kingdom of zeal I could feel the magic with this song!
In my case, I prefer Schala's Theme over Corridors of Time but the two are my favourites songs of all the OST.
Ozzy's pants are the best helm ever.
That anime scene there at the end, with Frog/Glenn in human form.. one of my alltime favorite moments in gaming.
I am filled with so much excitement watching someone on a genuine first blind playthrough of Chrono Trigger! Especially watching your thoughts when asked if you'll fight Magus. Chrono Trigger is so important to me, I attribute my name to it too. With this excitement, I hope to catch your streams!
The music always induces the tears. It's always perfectly paired with the events.
I love watching people fall in love with this game. It's been my favorite game since I first played it a few months after release on SNES.
Fun fact
The 3 gurus melchior, belthasar and gaspar are inspired by the 3 wise kings/mage kings (they have a couple English names I believe) who went to nazaret following the shooting star to celebrate Jesus's birth by gifting gold, incense and myrrh. In spain they're our version of santa claus
I had so many emotions when i first played through this game. It was a turning point for me when it came to video games, one of the first true rpgs i'd ever played, the way this game made me feel then still affects me today. this game is a classic, thx for sharing your time with it with us.
Teared up just watching this. SO DAMN GOOD!
glad you enjoyed it!game helped me through some dark times!
Ah, I cried when you cried at the end! It's really such a beautiful story 😍😭😍😭😍😭
Many thanks for this! I stumbled across your channel by way of your FF6 playthrough, which was also very enjoyable. Chrono Trigger was the very first game of this kind that I have ever played,
and that same summer, a friend was playing FF6, which I wound up comparing to Chrono Trigger on more than one occcasion! XD
There are indeed many magical moments to be found in Chrono Trigger, as well as epic feels to be had to accompany them.
Favourite game of all time... Instant sub. Still blows my mind that they saved a song as good as "To Far Away Times" for the ending, such a great reward
The black winds howl...
One amoung You will surely perish...
You somehow went from struggling with easy bosses to beating the entire Black Omen and Lavos' first form before even reviving Crono. That's incredible
Thanks for giving us a second first time 🙏 I've forgoten how nice it is to discover that Robo has a place in the future 😄
Awwwww, what a ride back memory lane. Thanks so much for taking us all with you!
our Magical Childhood memories of the game!
this game is one of the best, glad you've enjoyed it :)
Chrono trigger is the BEST game ever made.
Sarah the queen of clutching it. I swear everytime she is about to die and kills the enemy in a movie like fashion
She usually is underleveled by 10 levels or so each time she goes against a boss like that
Like in Temple of the ancients in ff7, the recommended lvl there is like 46, she was 36 at best xD
This definitely brought the feels on again... Was nice to watch someone experience this for the first time! The whole thing is truly a special experience.
The chrono cross foreshadowing at the end is amazing now that i know what happens in both games
37:02 Normally Lara would be running around and dancing but.... Ya know.... Yeaaaaa
2 things some people might miss from the anime cutscene from the end:
1 - the green haired guy leaving the castle was Frog, having his curse removed, he back to a human form and was receiving his official knighthood from the king.
Oh my god I teared up... Also i never got that ending! I heard there are a bunch of different endings.
Yes, 13 different endings to be exact.
Each ending having a sub ending depending on what you've done! Such as Magus being there or not (and if glenn is human or a frog)
Go look up _To Far Away Times (Chrono Trigger) Vocal: Sarah Alainn._ You're welcome.
Didn't know before this... will never forget her after this.
She loves it, especially the music... I absolutely love her way.
Now we go to Chrono Cross!
If she is smart she won't haha. It's such a disappointment compared to this
@@Classic_DionysuS but Chrono Cross also are a good game! It has an incredible storyline, the plot twist is insanee, the characters are interesting and the songsss, the the songs in this game are beutiful!
@@Classic_DionysuS It's different, definitely not as light-hearted as CT. CC is VERY heavy, you get a sense it's the story writer's reflection on life itself. If you can appreciate it, it leaves a mark in you.
@@Classic_DionysuS Chrono Cross isn't on the same level of masterpiece, but it is still a great game. Definitely worth playing. If you've played Radical Dreamers, Chrono Cross ties into the story a whole lot better.
Chrono Cross is such a great game.
Thank you so much for making me remember how much I love this game. I couldn't avoid to tear up a bit watching you well ... Cry 😅. Frog's theme still gives me chills to this day. I will always be grateful to video games for allowing me to play Chrono Trigger, one of the greatest stories ever told.
Almost forgot, keeping Marle through most of the later half of the game will give you some insight about how she has fallen in love with Chrono which explains that they got married in the end.
Awesome, so happy to see others enjoying this game for the 1st time over all these years. Good choice 👌 👍 on not fighting Magus. He is an awesome character. This game showed us how we can care for sprit characters.
I am glad you enjoyed the game very much. It is one of my all time favorites. Though I wish sometimes they made Magus the main protagonist in Chrono Cross.
Congratulations on beating the best game ever. Loved your genuine reactions. :)
I am really glad that you gave this game a chance. But I am even happier that you loved it and know how to appreciate a great RPG when you see one.
damn you did justice to this game. I got emotional as heck watching you play it and remembering stuff
20:47, i played chrono trigger multiple times, but no joke, no matter what anyone says about how bad the loading time on the psx version is, this scene alone made it worth the time wasted. like i said, i had played and chrono multiple times before, but when i watched this i was a mess, i had to stop and take a deep breath because i just couldnt stop crying, such an amazing scene recreated in the most perfect way.
I try to replay Chrono Trigger at least once a year, just to experience it again and remind myself why this is my favorite game of all time. Revisiting it with your videos has been a blast! It really made me fall in love with the game all over again. I also teared up at the end haha
You are so fun to watch. Your personality just shines. You can brighten anybody's day! I know your schedule has been heavy lately but I hope its getting better and your stress is less. Thank you for all the content you give your fans!!
