It's even good on mobile. Chrono cross is on ps4/5 they really need to get trigger on there too. The best part about mobile gaming is the amount of classic jrpgs on the store too. It's over looked but awesome
@@jonathansoko1085 I recently played Crono Cross too. I avoided it for a long time because I heard it was a terrible sequel. I would say if you want a sequel to Chrono Trigger then it’s very disappointing but if you just want a great JRPG then it’s a must play. Best thing to do in my opinion is shake off the pretense that it has anything to do with Chrono Trigger and you’ll have a great time.
Chrono trigger is one of my favorite rpgs ever. Such a great game with good style and some iconic tracks. I still have my complete DS copy also and it’s one of my favorite games I own
@@JB-mm5ff the standard “Beyond Time,” ending. 🙂 I did every character’s side quest before finishing the game, so I definitely feel like I got a full experience of sorts lol.
I remember growing up and never making the connection that chrono trigger was drawn by akira toriyama, I would just name all the characters DBZ names like Lucca Bulma, Magus Vegeta, Chrono Goku etc etc But man, this game really swung me into RPGs, it’s so accessible and easy to pick up for people who were inexperienced like I was. The tech moves are still so ahead of their time too, i wish they had more of that even in modern JRPGs
I'm 46 and I first played this game way back in '95. Chrono Trigger is my favorite JRPG of all time. This game definitely needs to come to the Super Nes on the Nintendo Switch. Please make it happen Square Enix!!
Chrono Trigger is still my favorite game, and I played it when it first released. Still have that same cartridge and SNES; yes, they still work. The DS release was beautiful, the extra gameplay they added was perfect. I replay it (either version) every few years and still feel the same joy I did when I was a kid.
That is really cool that you still have the cartridge and your SNES. My mom threw everything away the second she saw me taking a break from it. I wish I still had all my childhood belongings in a box. I kinda hate my mom for being like that.
This is one reason why I love your channel bro. You're not trying to be a dick about things, but you're also not trying to ignore flaws about things. Yes, Chrono Trigger is an absolute masterpiece and by many accounts deserves the 10/10 reputation. But it does have small little 'flaws', because everyone is different at the end of the day. Its why it tends to be nitpicks rather than complete flaws. I 'm not going to sit here and pretend the game is perfect, but I sure as hell will recommend it to every single human being I can.
I can agree. But even those small flaws are nothing that holds the game from being that darn good and it's almost as close of being an perfect game. Just barely.
i mean it has more than "small little flaws", it dindt aged that well, nowadays the lack of voice acting and cinematography hurts the story a lot, plus the graphics and the old gaming nature of it, like dont clarify to you what you have to do and where you have to go
@TheErojean It's from an 4th Gen console. The NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, N64, PS1 and other consoles from 4th to 5th gen consoles don't have voice acting and cinematic cutscenes because it wasn't fully optimized into early 2D and 3D games yet. We don't get all of that till the 6th Gen consoles with PS2, Xbox, GameCube and later consoles where it can now fully customize vouce acting & cinematic cutscenes. So it's very unfair to say something like that because it was from the time before all those became an thing than. It's not an big flawed nor they don't feel dated. It's just how it was before technology evolved. Sorry if I' sounding like an jerk here. But the way u said that is very unfair to compare cause it is very subjective. There's no fact about it.
@@MorgothGamingTrove actually no, in storytelling having a good voice acting and cutscenes/cinematography is not subjective, it will always be better than not having it
I played Chrono Trigger for the first time back in 2012 during my last year of high school. I had somehow missed it despite growing up with the SNES and loving Square. Needless to say, the gameplay, story, and music absolutely ENTHRALLED me. To this day, it is still easily one of my, if not my, favorite games of all time.
Chrono Trigger for the DS is my opinion best version to play. I first played it back in 98 and ever since then it is still to this day in my top 10 favorite games of all time. I love the unique features with how the characters collaborate together with different combo techs, this really encourages you to try different character groups. Of course, I have my favorite group to play with. My preference is Frog, Chrono, & Marle, or Frog, Marle, Ayla. Yea Frog, aka Glenn is my favorite character in the series.
Hello, really enjoyed your review. As someone who holds this game as their favorite game of all time, your criticisms are very accurate, and i agree with you 100 percent. I always dread going through the factory after getting robo, and try to finish it as fast as possible. The fact that you enjoy this game this much after only playing it for the first time says a lot about the quality of it. Keep up the good work.
I literally found a DS copy of Chrono Trigger for like 30 bucks off of ebay, and I just had to check it out. Besides Final Fantasy 7, this was considered one of the best JRPGs of all time, I have to playthrough it! Loved that you mentioned FF12 as well, absolutely adore that title, that middle section of the game, especially in the Sun Cryst Dungeon, some of my favorite consecutive boss fight moments in gaming for me
@@letstacobout Nah, already got it in the mail, it's a legit copy, there was a new game plus save on it though from the last person who had it, with tons of hours on it too
For anyone who's interested, there's also a pretty good randomizer for Chrono Trigger. It's called Jets of Time and I'd definitely recommend it for any die hard fans looking to breath new life into an already timeless classic.
This is my favorite game ever made hands down. Iv been playing it since it first came out and have no plans on quitting it. I hope this game is brought to the Nintendo switch so that I might enjoy it for the millionth time 😊.
Did you ever beat the game with Magus? When you fight Zeal, she still thinks he is simply a false prophet. She never discovers that Magus is her long lost son. She probably wouldn't care since she is obsessed with Lavos's power, but still. And did you ever think about how Magus knew that Crono was going to die when it happened? We know that Janus predicts his death, but did you ever think about how the adult Magus knew that Crono would die while it happened? Magus also probably recognized Crono whenever you encounter him for the first time because even though you meet Janus after you meet Magus, Magus already met you when he was Janus. Magus rulez.
I first played CT back in 1995. When I saved Lucca's mom, I was so happy and emotional, my little 13 year old self didn't know what to do so I just lied there staring at the ceiling with tears rolling down my eyes and my SNES controller in my hands. That feeling and memory is still ingrained in me and I hope my daughter plays it one day.
I played Chrono Trigger for the first time last week and I loved it, but people need to chill the hell out when gushing about this game. I've seen too many people make it sound like a life altering experience so I think people go into it expecting their minds to be blown when that's not really what happens. In addition to its influence, the reason this game is so special is because of how consistent it is. I honestly think it might be the most well rounded game I've ever played as it does so much very well and only really has some minor flaws IMO. You touched on this a bit, but it doesn't have those JRPG caveats that we see very often today like boated length, bad pacing, tropey anime style characters, random encounters, and borderline nonsensical stories. I don't like most JRPGs for the aforementioned reasons, and even with many of the ones I do like I have significant critiques, but Chrono Trigger doesn't have any of those issues. Hell I HATE the ATB system, which feels to me like navigating the Windows XP start menu while being slapped every 5 seconds, but the way Chrono Trigger does it is unique and interesting enough that I found the combat tolerable. Once I realized that Chrono Trigger was just a really well made game and not literally the best thing that ever existed, I really enjoyed it. It's my favorite JRPG and I don't see that changing any time soon. Also, for those of you who haven't played it yet but are planning to, the optional content at the end of the game is some of the best it has to offer and it's where like 90% of the character development happens so don't skip it!
Did you know they had several different alternate endings you could get too? It really adds to the characters/time eras in a whole and you get a whole lot of set pieces you otherwise couldn’t see
Great vid! Just FYI - The Steam version has improved over the years. All of the DS extras have been patched in (besides the second screen, of course), and it has a retro graphics option now.
Played this way back on SNES in the 90s. Got far but never beat it. Got it on Steam recently, I completed my first playthrough friday. Dope ass Journey! 🙏 Now I gotta go back and beat FF VIII on Switch.
Chrono Trigger is one of my all time favorites. Played it way back in the day, my first JRPG and I adored it. Recently replayed it a couple times, once in 2020 and once in 2023 and I loved both. I would really love an Octapath Traveler style visual remake but I also partly want a FF7 style remake too. But that's be riskier is potentially losing some of its gameplay charm. So, even though its greedy, I would live to get both. That way, everyone's happy. But it needs to be done, so many people are missing out on this because it was before their time and they dont want to go back to an SNES title. Kids these days are missing out.
I played this game for the first time back when it first came out. It was my first RPG. I beat it a few years after that… and to this day this is MY favorite game. Loved the DS re-master as well, but felt some of the extra stuff kind of distracted from the well paced AMAZING story. Maybe something to leave for after a few New Game +’s. Remaking it would be nice, but this game is already perfect! With all that said… I would LOVE a Re-Remaster in the vain of Star Ocean The Second Story R. MAKE IT HAPPEN SQUAREENIX!!!
I love this game got told about it in middle school by a friend but I didnt own an snes. Years later played the ps1 compilation version with the anime cutscenes and it became my favorite jrpg till this day. I would love to see it get a remake though
I feel blessed for being able to play and fall in love with this game when it originally released, but it's great to see that my love for the game isn't just a rose-tinted glasses situation.
In an age where JRPGs are extremely bloated to up their total playtime, I love going back to Chrono Trigger from time to time (heh, puns) for a breather. It's evenly paced, it doesn't force grinding and even just a regular New Game cycle can take less than 20 hours.
There is nothing wrong with The original Chrono Trigger. The game is a Masterpiece. My favorite JRPG and Favorite Game overall. It's that huge of a deal to me.
Thank you Matty as a newer gen gamer for honest review. Its frustrating when everybody is to afraid to properly review classic games b/c of crazy rabid fan base.
On the one hand, I agree that just because you like something doesn't mean you can't admit it can't have flaws. On the other hand, having played this game for the first time after it had already been rereleased in other systems, I did not find the robot factory confusing to navigate at ALL 😂. Also I really don't understand what the point would be of remaking this Octopath style. It would look slightly different with the 2d art with depth, but still not convince anyone who doesn't like old games or turn based games. Octopath style is GREAT for making games that are supposed to look and feel like old games, but for remaking old games? I don't consider it enough of a difference to be worth it.
Me and my best friend at the time we stayed up all night playing this game. In defense if Frog's name was Glen it would spoiled and ruined the moment where the game reveals how frog became a frog. The music was really good for it's time and it all just fits well with the game. I would love to see a chrono trigger remake along with a final fantasy 6 remake.
That first Factory Conveyor Belt can be annoying, but at the end of the battle loop it drops you off at the destination you were trying to dodge robots to get to, so it's not like you have to do it over and over to progress. The Ocean Palace Elevator sequence can be quite long, especially if you accidentally send it back up, but the Ocean Palace is effectively the Disk One End Dungeon and it's supposed to be bigger and tougher than the ones that came before it. I agree with you about how the game needs to be looked at through a modern lens in addition to from within it's original context; I've seen several streamers playing for the first time have trouble with sections because they lacked information the game expected them to have, because they were playing through going as quickly as possible from plot-point to plot-point and not exploring the map and talking to all the NPCs - best example: struggling during the Masa&Mune fight due to the Massive Vortex Attack, because they didn't stop in the nearby town and so failed to talk to the one guy in the tavern who tells you that vortex energy can be disbursed with a Wind Slash. I feel like more modern games wouldn't make that information so easily skip-able, and would either add it in additional places (in dialogue for other NPCs, maybe a readable sign somewhere directly on the approach to the battle) or even putting it on screen during the combat.
Got Chrono Trigger on Ps3 its good for combat and story. Not to mention the main character looks awesome and has cool attacks. My question is why isnt this game remastered with graphics, etc using the Nintendo DS version for all consoles.
I never had nostalgia for it because I missed out on it when it was new. I was so into DKC2 that nothing else mattered, then Super Mario RPG came out and I didn’t give Chrono Trigger another thought until 2011. I played it for the first time when I was almost 30, and it completely blew me away. I’ve done over 30 playthroughs on multiple versions since.
Some of my all time favorite rpgs came out in that time, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG. My favorite era of gaming was lucky enough to have access to genesis, snes, nes, and pc. Sadly never was able to finish Super Mario RPG the adventure/point click games on pc occupied alot of my time. Quest for Glory 4 took a lot of my time.
Played this game for the first time back in 1996ish when I was in early middle school. I liked games, but had never played any RPG before. This game completely hooked me on JRPG's. It fundamentally altered my gaming identity. It led to me discovering FFVI (branded "3" at the time in the US), and a pure Square fanboy was born. To this day, I still buy every mainline FF game (aside from the direct sequels... well, I bought X-2 and decided never again to buy a direct FF sequel out of regret and disappointment... though I also dislike FFXIII, so not buying XIII-2 was a no-brainer). I've spent years in both FFXI and then FFXIV and have maintained my FFXIV sub for nearly ten years (minus one break I took back before HW). I say this only to tell people how much Chrono Trigger affected the course of my gaming life. It's truly a magnificent game and in the top 3 GOAT games imo. Not just JRPG or RPG, but games in general. It's damn near perfect.
I have the ps1 classics version on psp/ps3 and the steam version. It’s good game. I didnt play it til waaaaay later. I like that it’s not super long tbh.
I played the Steam version, which is the DS version, in 2023. The Future level left me crosseyed. I had to make the game window smaller and roll my chair back in order to make sense of what I was looking at.
CT is pehaps my favorite jrpg of all time. and no matter how many times i replay it, i still spent 1-2 hours at the very start farming for the lode sword... yes i know you can either buy it as soon as you get back, or that you can even find it in the dungeon following it... but i just love the grind...
Great review. Can you please do a review/analysis on the Quintet Trilogy at some point (Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, and Terranigma)? 3 of my favorite retro games. I think you'll enjoy them
This is my favourite game of all time and it’s really timeless, I didn’t have issues with the elevator sequence of the game. I only had an issue once with the geno dome and I didn’t like the boss at the time but once I did a second play through it wasn’t that bad but all in all i still love this title.
I think the one section that I never look forward to in my play throughs is when you have to go through the Tyrano Lair. The creatures are so beefy and their collision detection is a little off in places forcing fights and making it feel like a slog. This is still my favorite game and a standard that is extremely difficult to live up to, but it does have its flaws. They're just so small in the shadows of its other great qualities that it feels nearly perfect
@@IrNaLann I seee so the tyrano lair gave you trouble, for me I found the spekkio fights luck based and I found those battles tedious but I did beat them but not the first form.
CT is still to this day my favorite RPG game I've ever played. The game still holds up remarkably well and it's probably the one game that doesn't need an overhaul remake. If it does get an remake somehow, than I wouldn't mind if it goes on an Octopath Traveler like visuals and stuff. But keep the game original design & charm to the game as it was. Don't screw it up. Otherwise, I would prefer an port of the Steam version to Chrono Trigger more than anything.
Regarding a Chrono Trigger remake, not to rain on anyone's parade, but if you read up on it you'll see that there are some pretty big challenges in doing so. Same with another sequel to follow Chrono Cross. Yuji Horii has said in the past that he's not interested in returning to the series. This is significant because his company (Armor Project) owns the scenario/story of the game, while Square Enix owns the IP, so any remake would require cooperation of both parties. Yasunori Mitsuda has also said that there are a lot of politics with the series, so.. I dunno. There would also be massive expectations for a remake, so I'd imagine they would want at least some members of the OG staff involved, but Horii is busy with DQ, Sakaguchi has pretty much said he's retired, Kitase is busy with all things FF, etc. Even more than a remake, I'd want a new game in the series if anything. It would be amazing to see them resurrect Chrono Break, which Square Enix trademarked way back when they actually wanted to make another sequel after Cross, but due to disagreement with management, it was shut down.. :(
It's not that its perfect. It's that every core element is so good and then some. To the point where you can recommend it to people who's never touched a JRPG and you'd know they ll love it. This game is better than so many JRPGs that are still coming out now. But definitely some minor flaws here and there.
FF4,Chrono trigger,Shin Megami tensei 1,trials of mana,& TLOZ:ALLTP & Super castlevania 4 & MMX2 are my most favorite SNES games & ofc Tales of phantasia & Star Ocean.
I definitely would want to see a AAA Chrono Trigger remake treatment; I dont think Octopath style would be enough. Im thinking more like Genshin Impact, where you can have beautiful Toriyama watercolor backgrounds and cel-shaded true-to-form characters. The technology has finally caught up and Trigger could potentially look like a Toriyama anime in motion. And a Chrono Trigger remake deserves nothing less.
It's a game that I can totally understand being someone's FAVORITE (it's very charming, vibrant, simple, great visuals, music, etc), I still don't understand why people think it's the BEST. Chrono Trigger is almost like the "everyman's JRPG", meaning it was easy for less RPG type players still got into CT and it was very popular. It's a great game, but there are many better in that era. Final Fantasy VI blows it away, in my mind.
I'm late to this video, I realize that, but I have to comment. I love Chrono Trigger. I played my original SNES cartridge until my characters hit max level and played it again when I later purchased it on steam. I have a wood carving replica of the cartridge on my wall and I still passively listen to the soundtrack sometimes. Having said that, the first time I played that damn factory I got stuck for HOURS. It was a fricken nightmare and while it wasn't as bad the next few times I played it through, I totally agree it sucked the first time through.
I was a Genesis kid so I didn't have an SNES back then but a few of my friends did, and Chrono Trigger was one of the standouts that I'd watch them play. The first time I played through it for myself was in the Final Fantasy Chronicles collection on PS1, which wasn't mentioned in the video. Think I'll try and track down a DS copy if I don't already have it, I'm not sure exactly what I have on DS but it's not that many. I tried buying it on the SNES like 2 years ago, it was slightly cheaper than the market value was, but not by much, I'm talking like $175 instead of $225-250 or something. When I received it I was immediately clued off that it was a fake, took it apart and confirmed. After a little resistance from the seller I got them to take it back & refund me, and they deleted that profile. I honestly probably would have been ok with a repro if the listing was honest about that fact (the listing went out of it's way to assure that it was authentic & original) and if it were significantly cheaper; there is no reason for it to have been priced as high as it was other than preying on collectors thinking that they're getting a slight deal. Of course they claimed they were ignorant, but I looked at some prior feedback and they've done this scam a few times but were able to hide the bad reviews under some options.
I own it on steam and am fine with it, plays good on my rig, and own it on PS with Final Fantasy chronicles.A DREAM team collab by the rpg fathers and probably will never get a collab like this again! Give a chance BUT its not for everyone. This and Blue Dragon are great!
05:40 that was the same reason I quit P4G. As much as I LOVED the way the game started, the fact that I had to spend 7-8 in game days grinding the same dungeon to level up to fight a single boss was so lame and filler-y. Like you want your game to last long? Make content to match it. Don't sit here and make me grind for hours and call it content. Chrono Trigger feels good man. Every second you play feels essential. Best JRPG.
I wouldn't argue that the Derelict Factory isn't a slightly unnecessary part of an otherwise very tightly scripted story - certainly Robo's confrontation with his "brothers" could have happened in the back of Proto Dome instead - nor would I argue that some of that conveyor belt dungeon design stuff could be frustrating on a first playthrough. I would only argue that neither issue has anything to do with the game's age -- they're suboptimal choices that happen just as readily in games from 1990, 2000, 2010, and are still happening in 2024. I think it's too often that problems are attributed to a game's oldness, when in reality intelligent stuff and dumb stuff have both been made forever. For some reason, I recently played Xenoblade 2, and there's a dungeon called Elpys where all your combat abilities are dampened by a global aura causing fights against monsters that aggro you from unpredictable angles to take forever, any of whom can at any moment easily fling you into bottomless pits that reset you up to the top of the level, whereupon you have to restart a long, tedious sequence of running and climbing down the perilous terrain only to be flung into the pit once again. On top of that, the game is in no way a platformer, so the movement and control are floaty and awkward as it asks you to navigate these highly volatile spaces. Meanwhile, there is a convoluted system where you are expected to carefully balance a team composition of twelve different characters pulled from a Pokemon-like pool of hundreds, as well as the different skill trees and equipment sets of each -- but then the game constantly confronts you with "field skill" checks that demand you go into your exhaustively-crafted setup with a wrecking ball in order to place a bunch of level 1 "Pokemon" that you otherwise never use into your active party for five seconds so that you can punch a wall open or light a candle. At which point you must delve straight back into the menu nightmare to try to piece together what you had before, not knowing if it's just going to ask you to repeat the process for a different skill check around the next corner, but unable to risk complacency lest you run into one of the pit-flinging enemies in your already weakened state. Xenoblade 2 isn't very old, and yet there is probably no RPG on the original NES that can compete with the breathtaking stupidity of these choices. So, any time I'm inclined to think a game did something poorly because it's from X year, I stop and remember it's actually because the entire history of art is filled with both good and bad decisions. One bit I don't like in Chrono Trigger is the scenario where the gate key is stolen and the party must go to the Reptite Cave to retrieve it. 99% of the game's script is elegantly setting up something that will be important later, and it's true that this is your introduction to the Reptites and Azala, but it's a clunky way to do it and far less thrilling than the standard of scenario writing otherwise maintained throughout the story.
You're not wrong some of the dungeons can be a little confusing or annoying, but just a little, never goes over the line. And i think that is by design. The same goes for some boss fights are quite long, but just a little. Enough to feel like a challenge but not enough to really frustrate the player. But i totally get it, some puzzle designs show they are really old. And though they are not terrible or overwhelming, it can take some time to figure out what to do. My personal "not favorite" puzzle is in the factory where Motherboard is, where robots are created, at the late game. That part where you have to get Robo into the machine so he got charged with electricity and then run to the next door took me ages the first time. Ages being like 30 minutes tbh. But still. It can pause the otherwise excellent pacing of the game that is for sure.
As someone who grew up playing FF2/4, Chrono Trigger & Mario RPG I love that era of JRPGs, but find only Chrono Trigger & Mario RPG to hold up best due to not having random battles. Thankfully the pixel remaster exists for Final Fantasy 1-6 now. That said, I much prefer the tighter pacing of that era of JRPG compared to the behemoth 100 hour games these days. I'm not against an engaging 100+ hour game (loved Elden Ring), but I can't get into the Persona series due to having so much downtime for conversations. While I agree Chrono Trigger isn't perfect (no game is), for me it's a s close to perfect of a game I've ever played. Most of that is around mechanics & general pacing, but the issues you described I simply didn't have even on my first playthrough as a kid. Was that because I bought the guide with the game & used it liberally? Probably. However like you mentioned, it now is engrained in me so I don't see some of the issues a newer player may encounter. Keep in mind it was of the era where JRPGs were basically requiring guides to see everything within the game & avoid getting stuck for younger players (I was 9 when it came out).
The Derelict Factory is definitely my least favorite dungeon, too, for exactly the reasons you describe. Thankfully, you can skip most of it if you know the code. Strangely enough, I always do the whole dungeon anyway because I like the game as a whole, which makes the one flawed part more tolerable.
Square needs to do another dream team and smash that chrono based game for a trifecta. Chronocross was amazing but it feels incomplete without a modern chrono to tie them all in.
What do I think about Chrono Trigger? I rented that shit ON RELEASE, AND put it on my Christmas list. I don't even remember WHAT caused me to rent this one random game. But I loved it. 1995, baby! Represent!
There's games from last generation that already aged poorly. Chrono Trigger is going to be 30 in 2025. 30 YEARS OLD. That's how old I am. And the game just aged like the finest wine. Playing on a DS is just a delicacy. It's supper easy to get hooked, the writing is phenomenal and the setting can be even immersive. I played Chrono Trigger for the first time in 2020 with the crapy Steam release and even then I got hooked.
Chrono trigger is one of those games that everybody needs to play. It's a really special game.
And that artwork by Akira Toriyama is amazing.

@@Jeanssj98 That is definitely subjective.
@@MorgothGamingTrove actually no, in storytelling having a good voice acting and cutscenes/cinematography is not subjective, it will always be better than not having it
Played for the first time this year. Amazing game. The pace, battle and story is really what makes it great for me. Became one of my favorites.
I never really cared for the story all that much but the battle system alone puts chrono trigger as the goat imo
Rip Akira 😢
I literally found a DS copy of Chrono Trigger for like 30 bucks off of ebay, and I just had to check it out. Besides Final Fantasy 7, this was considered one of the best JRPGs of all time, I have to playthrough it! Loved that you mentioned FF12 as well, absolutely adore that title, that middle section of the game, especially in the Sun Cryst Dungeon, some of my favorite consecutive boss fight moments in gaming for me
Might be a fake, lots of fake DS games on ebay
@@letstacobout Nah, already got it in the mail, it's a legit copy, there was a new game plus save on it though from the last person who had it, with tons of hours on it too
Great game. Chrono Cross has one thing better. It's music, cross soundtrack is probably best of all time and has more memorable tracks
@@VioletElite4even if it was a fake, who cares? In the end it's the same thing
@@jonathansoko1085I believe there was some form of copy protection in the DS copies of the game.
Luca will be forever adult Arale for me.
I always named Frog as Glenn, Robo as R-66Y, and Magus as Janus.
Don't forget naming Marle as Nadia.
@@alexwallace3353 Nadia is Nadia!
To this day dont know how some cant hate on this game but chrono respects your time and i will forever replay this quick little packed adventure
Chrono trigger and Radiant Histortia are classics.
It really adds to the characters/time eras in a whole and you get a whole lot of set pieces you otherwise couldn’t see
i came to TH-cam ready to find a new Chrono trigger video but didn't think i would find one coming out just a day ago, must be a lucky day
🙏 Now I gotta go back and beat FF VIII on Switch.
been playing this game over n over since its release. and I will continue to play it till the day I die.
I 100% agree with your ace up the sleeve theory, they're saving the good stuff for when they really need it
I like the SNES dialogue box and font style better than the DS version.
Chrono Trigger has no bloat at all.
There is nothing to not like in Chrono Trigger. There is no stumbling.
hidden room in the Zeal Palace is what keeps me up at night
Chrono Trigger is the apex of the 16 bit era. So many great games on the the SNES and Genesis.
I love this game got told about it in middle school by a friend but I didnt own an snes. Years later played the ps1 compilation version with the anime cutscenes and it became my favorite jrpg till this day. I would love to see it get a remake though
One of the goats, and still holds up by todays standards.
I feel blessed for being able to play and fall in love with this game when it originally released, but it's great to see that my love for the game isn't just a rose-tinted glasses situation.
Finished my first play through this year and yeah it’s definitely up there for me all the hype is well deserved
In an age where JRPGs are extremely bloated to up their total playtime, I love going back to Chrono Trigger from time to time (heh, puns) for a breather. It's evenly paced, it doesn't force grinding and even just a regular New Game cycle can take less than 20 hours.
Chrono Trigger hits. It’s probably my favorite JRPG. To this day, I still can’t get over how good the gfx are.
Between the toriyama artwork and my favorite rappers sampling the songs, this game will always be one of my favs of any era
I'm glad you've gotten a CRT. It's the superior way to play retro games.
Still my favorite game of all time 23 years after the first time I played it.
Originally played it on DS. Picked up the SNES version later. The extra content, to me, isn’t worth the loss of pixel art quality. SNES all the way :)
Just recently played it myself, loved it
Seriously need to get that DM shirt haha. CT is hands down the GOAT for JRPGs
If you said anything bad about it, yes. It's one of the greatest games of all-time.
The sound track gets me every time.
I have the ps1 classics version on psp/ps3 and the steam version. It’s good game. I didnt play it til waaaaay later. I like that it’s not super long tbh.
What we really need more than a remake is a legit sequel where you get to play as the real Magus saving the real Schala.
Haha was good to hear Matty mention sea of stars hope he does a review of it
Great review.
This game is in the pantheon of gaming up there with elden ring,ff7,mgs1,sotn and the first 2 resident evils
Two of my favorite JRPGs are Chrono Trigger and Radiant Historia. Both on NDS.
Only the first print of the DS version came with the poster. :)
One of my personal favorite games on this planet
FF4,Chrono trigger,Shin Megami tensei 1,trials of mana,& TLOZ:ALLTP & Super castlevania 4 & MMX2 are my most favorite SNES games & ofc Tales of phantasia & Star Ocean.
Played chronic trigger for the first time in April, really got me into JRPG’s, awesome game. But fuck that elevator part lol
The japanese cart also has English and it cost like 1/3rd of the price. I got it on ebay and it's awesome
Best JRPG.
Still a top 5 all time jrpg
But still. It can pause the otherwise excellent pacing of the game that is for sure.
so glad your channel is taking off bud bundy. 😅 you deserve the success
Positioning was one of the coolest part of the battles. Where is that in Dragon Quest XI, Octopath, or other modern AAAs?
Of course! Split the review into 2 part and you got double the views for 1 game. Clever!
Goat soundtrack
The Derelict Factory is definitely my least favorite dungeon, too, for exactly the reasons you describe. Thankfully, you can skip most of it if you know the code. Strangely enough, I always do the whole dungeon anyway because I like the game as a whole, which makes the one flawed part more tolerable.
No matter the praise I hear about this game, I still can't get myself to get over the turn base combat system.
Grabbed this brand new off Reddit a couple months ago for $100 CIB. Can’t wait to get to it, but so many other games to get through 😭😭
Which version, SNES or DS?
You're late to CT Matty? I'm 46 this month and roughly halfway thru my 1st playthrough. 😊
Square needs to do another dream team and smash that chrono based game for a trifecta. Chronocross was amazing but it feels incomplete without a modern chrono to tie them all in.
Thanks man, I just spent $90 on eBay buying a DS version to replay it
My least favourite part of CT is the Forest Maze in 65,000,000. I Always get lost in there.
What do I think about Chrono Trigger? I rented that shit ON RELEASE, AND put it on my Christmas list. I don't even remember WHAT caused me to rent this one random game. But I loved it. 1995, baby! Represent!
I love the new set. 🙏
Conveyor belt is good grinding spot
There's games from last generation that already aged poorly. Chrono Trigger is going to be 30 in 2025. 30 YEARS OLD. That's how old I am. And the game just aged like the finest wine. Playing on a DS is just a delicacy. It's supper easy to get hooked, the writing is phenomenal and the setting can be even immersive. I played Chrono Trigger for the first time in 2020 with the crapy Steam release and even then I got hooked.
I got it on the delta emulator and plan on finishing it for the first time soon
