    Strider was a game that really pushed the CPS1 hardware, as even the CPS1 original had some performance issues here and there. (And LOTS of glitches)
    When this port came out on 1990, it was probably considered a god damned MIRACLE it could even run on a home console and look exactly like the arcade in terms of sprite size and detail, but here it is. The first ever 8 Mbit cartridge game. And it was AMAZING.

    My father went to six different stores so I could have this game on Christmas morning 1990. Awesome game, but so incredibly short. I heard there was a Strider II, but it wasn’t as good.

      Capcom's strider 2 was amazing. The Genesis Strider 2 wasn't worth the plastic it took to make the cartridge.

    Seeing this game running on a console in 1990 was indescribable. The only thing the game appeared to be missing were the annoying voices during gameplay and that was fine by me.
    Yyg I honestly did not believe what I was seeing was real. I had a similar feeling with Ghouls n' Ghosts in 1989 and was the reason I got my Genesis in 1989.

    amazing game, though the graphics were a bit too much for it to handle, graphics often dropped out, but graphically and musically, it was very close to the arcade, a true classic.

    Wow true memories, I remember when I first brought the game as a young boy with my friends. That was Sega Genesis first 8 meg game and it blew away the Arcade game. Truly a flashback. You remind me of myself play it, you know all the patterns of the stages and boss challenges. Thank you so much for your awesome gameplay. Thanks again.

    The only time i played as Strider was in Marvel vs Capcom 3 in PSVita. It was nice.
    This game didn't aged at all. A great Genesis classic.

  • @foxmulder4318
    @foxmulder4318 5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Ah, this classic. I always loved the sound of the cypher. It's kinda iconic, standing the test of time, showing up in future games and Marvel vs. Capcom and such.(He's a cheap ass s.o.b. in that, btw.) This was always fun as a kid, though it had some difficulty spikes for me at the time. I hated the final Master fight. But overall, quite fun.

  • @MikeThePsykat
    @MikeThePsykat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The cypher animation in this port has always bugged me. It looks less like a sword slash and more like some sort of "energy punch" to me. I think this is due to it being a single frame, whereas the Arcade version has 3 frames for the slash that make a convincing "swoosh" like effect. This version also seems to have some major slowdown in some places, that gold robot T-Rex fight looked like it had some horrible lag. Over all, this was a pretty good port for it's day, but it did have some issues.

    • @echelon2k8
      @echelon2k8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arcade actually has 4 frames for the convincing slash, but who's counting. :)

    • @solarflare9078
      @solarflare9078 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arcade still actually only has one frame. It's just that the upper and lower graphics appear and disappear accordingly

  • @Bloodreign1
    @Bloodreign1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Pretty impressive port for it's time, a coup for Sega to get the arcade version, while the NES got a completely different Strider adventure, closely based on the manga of that time. Of course the US version has such crappy artwork for the cover. And the All sons of old gods line is only spoken in the Mega Drive version.

    My first introduction to Strider was the NES version, and as a kid I thought the story of space ninjas, betrayal, and a crazy globe-trotting sword-swinging adventure was awesome. My good friend was always going on and on about it, and we were pretty pumped when we beat it. I don't remember playing this version on his Genesis. It may not have been in any of the rental stores or was always taken out before we got there.
    I do remember being fairly disappointed by the PS4 soft reboot. It's technically fine - it's just missing something.

    • @NintendoComplete
      @NintendoComplete  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the newer game, but did you ever play Strider 2? Not the garbage Genesis game, but the arcade game? It was completely awesome, and it got a nearly flawless PS1 port (which and was bundled with a new port of the arcade version of Strider).
      Strider 2 is like Strider amped up for the 90s, and its soundtrack was killer.

      The NES port had Sheena, and because of this the SNES game Run Saber, by ATLUS, is seen as the successor to it. That game was my intro to this type of game (no arcades within practical travel distance in my youth). Never had a Genesis as a kid, so I didn't know how much better some games were. Now I have a SuperRetro Trio Plus, and will be acquiring this version soon.
