I have a Microsoft 4000 keyboard and the ink wore off the keys in less than a year and they don’t sell just the keys. And even trying to find decent decals as a replacement is impossible. Very frustrating that everything nowadays is just meant to be disposable rather than repairable.
Why would anyone want to offer them for sale though? There wouldn't be sufficient market to make it viable in any way. You can get stencils and good paint and apply the lettering yourself, or even make your own stencils and do it that way.
@@Killashandra111 you want to look for double shot keys. The lettering isn't silk screened, it's injection moulded with two different plastics so the letter goes all the way through the key. Often with a clear plastic so back lit keyboards shine light through the letter. You should be able to find replacement double shot keys for your keyboard, just not from the manufacturer Or invest in a good mechanical double shot back lit keyboard. I've had the razer blackwidow elite now for several years, it works great.

You should try the Sharkoon Purewrite Keyboard, it is really long lasting for a low price, and it is the flattest mechanical keyboard and the fastest i've ever typed on. It is comparable to a laptop keyboard, noisier yeah, but you have the letters that just shine through, and you have a metal case, every button is changeable the way you want it. There are many other good mechanical keyboards but none is that flat and has that quality for the price.

But then again these were the 1990's with grubby college kids and lots of sunlight shining through the windows. The keyboards back then had to take a pounding and were designed as such. Still prefer the feel of Win95 two tone keyboards, they're just better to type on with the key spacing. It's worth buying them for pennies at junk stores and retrobriting them back to new, because the keyboards of today feel flimsy and less robust.

I've had the same COMPAQ keyboard for over 2 decades. I usually open it to clean it once every couple years. The worst part is always putting the keys back one by one. But if you take care of your old keyboard, it will last you your entire life barring accidents. Like every consumer product, they were probably made to be less obsolescent back then.

I love that Unicomp bought all the 1980s IBM tooling and makes brand new clicky keyboards. They have USB since no modern computer uses any other connector for keyboards. I love how those were built like tanks. I chose a keyboard with Cherry keys because I wanted something illuminated.

Got an old Victor branded Key-Tronic keyboard, i took it apart and when I plucked the keys out they crumbled between my fingertips so i guess it was too far gone. 25 years of sunshine and fluorecent lights sure takes a toll on plastic
I've restored keyboards before by putting them in the dishwasher by themselves and running it on a normal cycle before. They came out looking new. Just let them dry out real good before using them again

Gosto muito desse design e layout antigos dos teclados. Essas teclas altas são muito confortáveis para digitar (principalmente, por possuírem essa concavidade na parte superior das teclas, que são muito mais anatômicas para repousar as pontas dos dedos do que as teclas retas). Hoje, costumam suprimir algumas teclas nos teclados mais populares: O meu aqui (Dell KM632 sem fio), por exemplo: não tem a Windows Key do lado direito; não possui as teclas Scroll Lock e Pause Break, a Print Screen foi deslocada para à esquerda, ficando em cima do Backspace. A tecla Num Lock foi trocada por uma tecla "Clear". (antigamente, usava muito as teclas Windows+Pause Break como atalho para acessar as Propriedades do Sistema e checar a aba Gerenciador de Dispositivos). Os teclados novos com teclas multimídia são interessantes, mas para quem digita sem olhar para o teclado e conhece as teclas de atalho, é muito prático um teclado neste padrão antigo.

You did a really decent job on this. Only thing i did not like is when you restored it, you really did not do much on the screws; putting rusty screws back on instead of cleaning those up as well or replacing.
Would you be able to fix my laptop? My dad was so upset when I was trying to reassemble it after drying to get fur and dust out of it that it wasn’t working anymore, I have so much art that I made on it, I loved it so much when we got it at Best Buy like 3 years ago and he was super excited that we got it cause I was able to play video games on it, I was able to paint like an absolute artist and when I was taking it apart to clean out the dust and and stuff, I had felt like the battery may have been inflated from possibly getting a little punctured and I was telling him that, he felt like that wouldn’t be the case and I cried on the phone when he was at work and that I told him it no longer turns on. If you can help me at all with getting it fixed and such, I’d be the happiest person ever, he’s happy that I have his work computer since years ago that still works, but if I didn’t have that laptop, he would just be thinking that I don’t need a new computer anymore until he figures that maybe in a year or 2 he’d find me the money to get a new laptop or even a job to make my own money for its repairs, I just want to have you check it out though cause Best Buy is known my state to be a little stupid with repairs, though they make things work, they don’t have a promising result, fix for peoples stuff and I think your a great TH-camr that needs and deserves more recognition then ever! They were off-white, almost gray/beige when they were new. Either the video is desaturated at the end or the peroxide lightened the plastic too much.

There are different types of keyboards, and the "Plastic thing" is a PCB I believe. Yes they have changed, they are solid now, not flexible.

You did a really decent job on this. Only thing i did not like is when you restored it, you really did not do much on the screws; putting rusty screws back on instead of cleaning those up as well or replacing.
Miss the old techs, so many years it can last.

Would you be able to fix my laptop? My dad was so upset when I was trying to reassemble it after drying to get fur and dust out of it that it wasn’t working anymore, I have so much art that I made on it, I loved it so much when we got it at Best Buy like 3 years ago and he was super excited that we got it cause I was able to play video games on it, I was able to paint like an absolute artist and when I was taking it apart to clean out the dust and and stuff, I had felt like the battery may have been inflated from possibly getting a little punctured and I was telling him that, he felt like that wouldn’t be the case and I cried on the phone when he was at work and that I told him it no longer turns on.
If you can help me at all with getting it fixed and such, I’d be the happiest person ever, he’s happy that I have his work computer since years ago that still works, but if I didn’t have that laptop, he would just be thinking that I don’t need a new computer anymore until he figures that maybe in a year or 2 he’d find me the money to get a new laptop or even a job to make my own money for its repairs, I just want to have you check it out though cause Best Buy is known my state to be a little stupid with repairs, though they make things work, they don’t have a promising result, fix for peoples stuff and I think your a great TH-camr that needs and deserves more recognition then ever!

Si, es verdad lo que dices, hay una sobre-explotación de los minerales para hacer estas recreaciones tecnológicas. Y espero que pronto salga toda la contaminación que estas empresas están haciendo.
