Thanks Mike, I’ll bet most people have no idea how the box works.

I'm hoping this helps reveal some of the mystery and maybe get more people interested in learning how to play!

It's a type of Accordion w/ a really special sound.

This was fascinating and as a Steierische lover and hopefully someday a player, this is jnust what I have been wanting! Might there be a part two, or perhaps a basic tutor series coming??

I really wish they made these in chromatic, I've never been able to figure out diatonic but love the sound of the Helikon basses.

Chromatic button accordions do exist! You probably could even get them custom made with Helikon basses.

Hey, Mike! What is the "rule" when you use the thumb in playing? While some players use the thumb all the time, others (myself) play only with the four fingers. I like to include the little finger whenever possible, but I don't have much control over it, as in the larger fingers, and sometimes it "freezes up" in the joint to make it unusable. A sad story, indeed ... Greetz from Alabama!

Great question! I originally learned using all 5 fingers and still use my thumb quite often when playing. However, four fingers is usually all that is needed to play most music. The general rule I follow is to use as many fingers as needed, but as few as possible. I think it really comes down to personal preference whether or not to use the thumb. If it makes the section of music your playing easier for you, then use the thumb. If it seemingly makes no difference, then maybe keep it out of the way. That's how I see it!

Nicely done! Bisonoric is the original accordion.

@@mjvolksmusik Check out my music if you’d like. I play the steirische as well. I have an album and an EP on all streaming platforms as well as my TH-cam channel. I have no idea if any of it is good, but I make it and put it out there regardless. 🤷‍♂️
