    Tan-fastic! Bought this very same kit yesterday in (a Glasgow Scotland) model shop and want to do my first wacky Luftwaffe concept jet justice :-) This video was GREAT - I especially liked how, even watching at 1.25 speed, you showed the paints etc long enough for the viewer to see WHAT you're using then you put on screen the details of paint to thinner ration as well as airbrush specs! Alclad Lacquer is now very much on my shopping list and what a great idea for a Circle Template and painting wheels 😊 Liked, Subscribed et al! Being a tight-fisted, er, thrifty Scotsman, I'll wait till my modeling skills are more advanced before I tackle a 1:48 version of this amazing plane. Thank you for an amazing video!

    I've build quite a few 'blue box' Revell kits myself, had trouble with each and every one of them :)
    The newer 'black box' kits are supposed to be better, well I'll see soon, I have that RAF Typhoon with the WW II camo up next...

    • @geier1149

      The blue box models are better believe me. Only the kits that Revell stole from Zvezda (many) are good, because they are from Zvezda. Revell sells them much more expensive

    It's a beautiful model, but the fit of some parts is appalling - so I made mine as it appears in a famous wartime photograph, sitting on those huge balloon tyres, no wings attached, when it was discovered by American troops. It was dismantled, crated up, and sent back to the USA, probably to the Northrop works, to be reverse engineered. The Horten brothers were glider builders pre war. It still frightens me a bit at the tech that the Germans had, that luckily they never had the chance to utilise. My favourite Revell 'Luftwaffe 1946' series kit is the Focke-Wulf Project VI, or 'Flitzer', which had both rocket and jet engines. It looks suspiciously like a De Havilland Vampire.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've seen that. I'm not really into jets but some I like and the Vampire is my favourite, so I might get one one day.

  • @chancerNW
    @chancerNW 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very nice work, despite the kit's issues you did a great job. I thinks is a fascinating type of what could nearly have been. The German's tested a lot of advanced types as gliders before fitting engines, the Me163 Komet was good example of this. The Horten brothers and Alexander Lippish (designer of the Komet) were the main German pioneers of flying wings and tail less designs.
    I built this kit a while back. Sorry for the photo quality in the vid.

    Just a side note: Apparently that 'X' brace on the nose wheel was never on the original Horten IX / Gotha 229, it was a brace put in by the American museum people, in the 60's, after so much interest was shown in the original machine. They didn't want the old wreck collapsing if someone improperly moved the nose wheel, it was that well balanced...
    It's in all the models I've seen, but none of the original photos.

    March 7, 2021----Thanks for the video, but looking at this kit in a different way. Right now I'm into 1/35 scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas, but if I need a break from 'em, will be going for Luftwaffe '46 aircraft. But also in a different way. Like showing this plane in a NMF scheme with kills painted on it as it's on public display while the Germans are celebrating VE Day.....which was when the Germans occupied all of Europe, including Britain. Maybe put a damaged/captured P-80 in British or American markings, while "sub-humans" are pulling a cart loaded with garbage behind these aircraft.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a great idea. I've done a few kind of "what if" types builds like WW2 aircraft in Star Wars paint schemes and also Star Wars vehicles in WW2 schemes, plus my "Language Barrier" and "Enemy of my Enemy" dioramas.

    It was rebuilt and tested and it actually has stealth properties.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know about easily. I think by the time they got to this point, their infrastructure was so destroyed, even things like this would have made a minimal difference. You also have to keep in mind there were several Allied jets in the works. The Vampire, for example, came into service in 1946, right after the war ended.

    • @MWcrazyhorse

      @@SteamGeezerUKRight and Germany lacked resources. I'm just imagining a fleet of these in action. And If they can break Britain's defenses and thus allow the army to cross the channel and land then Hitler can invade Russia AFTER defeating Britain.

    @nathanprentice7230 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    ..... Couldnt get the engines to work so they flew as gliders....
    Weeeellll akshully the whole flying wing concept originated as a sport glider built by the Horten brothers. It 2as that particular glider that bought them to the attention of the luftwaffe command in the first place. So, while the original comment is right the plane had an earlier life as a glider.
    It has to be one of the most innovative designs in aviation history. I would argue every bit as important as the Me262.
    What the f¥ck were those Germans even thinking of eh?

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Piter_Play If it's historical accuracy you're after, I'd be more concerned that the kit comes with cannon, because none of the airframes built ever had armaments. There was one that was intended as a weapons test frame, but it was captured by the US before any guns were fitted.
      In any case, aftermarket decals are available for people who want them, but I do most of my builds out of the box, and I understand the commercial reasons Revell don't include them. In fact, Airfix don't either, if the FW190 I build a while ago is anything to go by, so I'd suggest you take it up with them.
