For those asking, I got this part from ABC auto. It's a Dorman part number 931-318 for some reason on this truck i had to look it up under a 03 silverado. If i remember correctly i took the original part out and cross referenced the number . Hope this helps.
I gotta say thanks for this video. My door was stuck shut and I had no clue how to get it undone, but when you showed the black piece that broke I went and looked at mine and shore enough, I was able to get it loose and open the door!!! Thanks for this video!
I got mine on Ebay for around 60 a piece. I had to replace my actuator but I was also having problems unlock it with the key. The grease on the inside door lock had turned tacky. I cleaned it off and used a graphite grease that seems to be working really well.
I have JUST completed this task. I kept my actuator but replaced the rest with a used one as a new one was between two and three hundred dollars. First: be VERY careful buying used. The idiot that worked on removing the part broke some of the plastic moulding that the two screws that attach the actuator motor to the rest of the assembly. Lucky for me, I knew a trick with crazy glue and baking soda and was able to attach that part of the plastic to the replacement piece. I live in a rural area, and I just couldn't wait to get a replacement one (new or used). Got that attached, and then started reassembly. This is where you have to be REAL CAREFUL: those plastic clips that hold the rods to the levers can get weak. If so, you have to pull them out a little bit so the tips squeeze in and hold the rod in place. I used a paper clip: wound it around once trimmed off the ends. Hold very nicely! Getting that top clip in is something you really need to get right. :D You have to twist the rod so the tip is pointing towards the back of the vehicle (when the door is closed), then push it into that small hole. You need to pull down on the rod so you can see the end through the hole (not sure if mentioned in this video). Everything else went pretty smoothly. I also replace the window mechanism as it was broken and I was using hockey stick pieces to hold the window up! hehe! Total job cost: a hundred and twenty bucks (CND) with the window actuator being new and coming with a lifetime warranty (primechoice.com ---> best prices because they manufacture everything they sell online. They just happened to be headquartered in my home town, so I could drive to their retail outlet and get discount online prices. :D Thanks for the how-to: you helped me a lot! :)
I just completed replacing the driver’s door latch on my 99 suburban. As per your video I had the drill and plug ready to cover the hole that you suggested drilling. What I found out accidentally were several things about the install which made it much less stressful and I didn’t need to drill the hole after all. One: You need to leave the outside handle and the new door latch loose as you are putting them together. There are two pushrods. The long one is the latch actuator and the short one goes from the door lock cylinder to the latch. Two: Attach the long actuator push rod to the outside door handle and lower it down inside so it inserts into the hole in the latch mechanism. Do not clip the short lock pushrod to the door handle yet!!!!! Three: IMPORTANT>>> To get the door handle thru the skin of the door you need to insert the key into the lock and turn it clockwise so that the lever arm on the inside is rotated up vertically out of the way. Four: After the door handle is thru the door skin, turn the key counterclockwise to get it back down where it can reach the end of the short pushrod once they line up. Five: Attach the short locking pushrod to the latch mechanism so it sticks up. You can see the upper end of it from inside the door and behind the window track. You are able to reach the upper end with your fingers so you can push it into the door lock lever snap. You may want to put one screw into the latch loosely to keep it from falling. Thanks again for making the video. I have cursed GM designers and my own fat fingeredness over this install in the past and believe me if I hadn’t stumbled on turning the key clockwise and sticking the short push rod on the latch coming up from below instead of the door handle hanging down I would have been drilling the hole.
Great filming. Too many people move the camera so much it hurts the brain. Your narration is also smooth and not too fast to have to replace it. After watching your video I replaced mine in less than 30 minutes and with its old hinge bushings the door fit better and shut tighter than before,
Thank you so much for sharing!!! I had two door latches get stuck in the lock position when the doors were open and had to tie them closed till I got home. Just pulling the door handle up and used a screw driver at the same time to get my latches back in place. So simple !!!! OMG!!! It would of cost me hundreds most likely to have it fix. My husband couldn't even fix it so I TH-camd it. I learn so much on here. It took me less than a minute to fix both doors. Ur sooo awesome!!! Thank you again for sharing all ur knowledge.
Oh boy. I started with a passenger door open light about a week ago (it wasn't). Alarm has been going off randomly and draining the battery. I'm thinking I need to replace the same part. I can change my oil and a flat tire and, despite having the tools, that's about all I can do. I'm afraid I won't be able to do it. My ambitions routinely exceed my talent.
Were your courtesy lights coming on with the actuator being out? My lights won’t come on and this is the only part I haven’t replaced to try and resolve my issue, thanks!
I had to replace the door latch a few weeks ago on my '93 Silverado. What a PITA! Not much room to maneuver around the window channel guide which is spot welded in place. It's weird that latch was for a '03. I wonder if that connector is for a security sensor..
+farmboy30117 Yeah im not sure why i couldnt find it. i remember replacing my passenger window in my 92 1500 when a tornado blew it out. it was a pain too. had to drill out the rivets holding the motor regulator to the door frame. gm sure loves using rivets and spot welds.
Someone hammed screwdriver into my door lock. So i gotta replace the cylinder. It locks via key fob but not with the key. Not sure how that works or whats goin on
I have the same problem on my 06 Silverado. I changed the door handle but the problem is on the actuator that he changed in this video the plastic piece that connects the key rod and the actuator is broken therefore you need to change the actuator also.
If you really want to make it manual windows you would have to find a similar vehicle as far as make and model. The base models for any fleet normally have manual locks and windows. Ether switch the whole door or just pull out the door panel and window regulator and swap everything over.
I have a question before you switched the door lock actuator when you put in gear/drive with old one did lock but the power switch buttons didn't work though ?
Mark Plasencia when I put it in gear the passenger side would lock. The drivers side would try to, but due to the broken rod, it couldn't. I would have to manually lock it or unlock it.
Mark Plasencia the switch worked. It attempted to lock/unlock the drivers side, but couldn't due to the broken rod. The passenger side actuator worked no problem. I hope this helps answer your question.
My problem was that a little spring had broken, not the plastic piece. The symptoms were, the electronic lock stopped locking on the drivers door, I could manually lock it for awhile but eventually the latch got stuck and i couldn’t close the door. I live near the beach so the metal in the spring rotted out.
I have a 2000 chevy Silverado that wont cycle lock and unlock doors to program new remotes for doors is there something I need to replace on it to get it to work, any help would be most appreciated thank you, and keep thise videos coming
Ok so several things come to mind to check. Is the fob new? Used? Come with the truck from the dealer? Fob battery Good? Then are you using the correct program procedure? I haven't looked into it, but on my truck it quit working with the fob. I could program it again and it would work for a few days then quit. Although the panic button still works
Idaman71044 yes the fob is new not dealer item, batterry new,I think Im using right procedure as I can reprogram old Fob but not new one ,and I really dont want to go to dealership, but Im thinking I beed an OEM Fob?
Antonio Ramos ok so if you are able to program the old fob, but not the new one, it sounds like to me that the new fob is the problem. I'm not very familiar with GM key fobs but it is possible that the new fob isn't compatible with the truck different years different makes different models use different radio frequencies. Which means different fobs they may look the same but could be different in the electronics
Ideman, I hope ya R doin' alright. Haven't heard back from ya N a while. (the passenger side motor in the actuator is starting to go) Have ya been able ta purchase the door lock/actuator yet. I'm just shootin' the breeze with ya.

Alma Marcela it sounds like the linkage from the outside handle and inside handle are both broken. you'll have to release the latch from inside the door frame. this involves taking the door panel which in the case of not being able to open the door will be challenging. but once you get the door panel off you'll have to look at the latch and figure out which is the release and unlatch it by hand. hope this helps
Mattdog2020 I replaced it because the plastic rod that unlocked the latch was broken. on my application I couldn't just get the actuator I had to replace the entire latch assembly
Say Idaman, your video was extremely helpful. Of course, I used it as a guide to replacing my new lock/actuator assembly. I was able to replace the lock/actuator assembly with ease.
