Have you tried any other gear ratios ? You want the most efficent PM you can find. Typically BLDC style are most efficient. Then since you're using belt you can get a variable pully to make adjustments easy. I prefer chain myself but cost alot getting all the gears you want
Yes, I'm a run what you brung type of guy, I use whatever I got laying around the house or my neighbors,, or a scrap yard, you'll be surprised what people throw away these days too.
Yeah I ran the small motor on 24v,but it was getting too hot,, if I was to get a flat belt around the bigger part of the treadmill flywheel, I would be willing to bet the little motor wouldn't get as hot at 24 volts, but yeah I want to play around with gear ratios in the future.

I said a mistake, I meant to say run 2- RV batteries in (SERIES) to make 24 volts for the small run motor.
