Finally!! The truth is coming out. The bike lane weren’t necessary and a waste of money. As someone who lives in and love the city for 10 years + and the bike lane were the one of the worst things they could have done and I said this then and I will say it again, it was not the best decision, particularly when they took the street parking away and expected people visiting my lovely CBD to ride a bike in to the city (we are not Amsterdam) they expect families from the outer suburbs to ride a bike in with their kids? During winter, during rain? Across kilometres? Their defence that they want more people to visit the city with bikes was outrageous to me.
never mind the polling ask about the report they commissioned and payed for that involved an international "specialist" flown out to Melbourne on rate payer money to put together a report into how they can get traffic flowing better, the out come was "youve slowed everyone to 40kms and put bike lanes everywhere ". what did that cost the rate payer?
