    Definitely missed out The Undertaker or Kane. They defined 90's wrestling's supernatural ridiculousness and over the top gimmicks. I think Sting's gimmick as a Vigilante and undertaker's dead man defined the era that people beleived in Kayfabe and anything is possible in wrestling

      tbh. I think Savage should've been replaced with Taker. Yeah, Savage was still big in the 90's... but did he really put his mark on them? For Taker it was his first decade of destruction.
      And UW should've been replaced with Mick Foley.

      @@Hialeahsown I disagree. Undertaker had such a great impact from day 1. 90s taker was in his in ring prime. 3 of his greatest feuds came in the 90s, mankind (which you can argue was his best rivalry) hbk & Kane.. this isn’t even mentioning his great work with Bret. Hell in the cell, inferno, buried alive, casket match & boiler room were all first time matches in the 90s & were memorable. 96-98 was an amazing taker.

    I really think Kevin Nash should’ve been on the list, he lead the new gen for a year then went to start the NWO, he had a way bigger impact than warrior or savage on the decade

    • @rayzor5289
      @rayzor5289 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In a way he did because he was involved in big storylines and was always on top. But Nash was never as over as Warrior at his peak. Warrior was the guy in the early 90's even though his run was considerably short. Nash wasn't more over than anyone else on the list either (expected for Raven of course). Nash would barley make a top 15 list taking into account the Undertaker, Mick Foley and Kane.

    Goldberg is easily one of the most interesting shoot stories in pro wrestling history. This former football player comes in and becomes WCW's one true homegrown superstar, seeing as Sting didn't start in WCW. Has such a great character and charisma. So extremely over. The Halloween Havoc replay garners Nitro it's last victory. Breaks not just monday night war records but TV history records. So they beat him 2 months later and he never gets the world title ever again, because the politics have gotten to such a state.

    • @namikstudios
      @namikstudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's interesting you mention that legendary match because DDP is actually a great example of a homegrown WCW superstar world champ. He had been a manager before WCW but not a wrestler, he learned to do that at the WCW Power Plant at the age of 35 - muuuch later than most start their training.

    Undertaker made his WWF debut a Survivor Series 1990 so was prominent throughout the entire decade. Warrior was only around for a couple of years or so with a couple of short term returns. The Rock made his debut in 1996 and even Stone Cold only became a main eventer from '96 onwards (4 years each). Goldberg (2 years on top). Also 'Taker was a far bigger star than Raven. How's he not even made the top 10?

    I somehow always end up in a debate with someone who thinks the 90s was all about Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Rock. They usually ignore Shawn Micheals, Brett Hart, Rick Flair, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Mick Foley (with his different alter egos), Undertaker, Kane, MachoMan, Scott Hall (Razor Ramon), Dustin Rhodes (Gold Dust), Hulk Hollywood Hogan, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, Brian Pillman, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Dean Melenko, Sid Vicious, Ken Shamrock, Scott Steiner, Goldberg, Roddy Piper. Just to name a few. Some of these guys were top 80s wrestling talents that were able to reinvent themselves and stayed on top. Or were new names in the United States and able to get over. Steve Austin wouldn’t be where he was without the double turn with Bret Hart and also Telegraph famous promo against Jake the Snake Roberts. The Rock might have failed without being part of Ron “Farooq” Simmons Nation of Dominion stable and giving his promo against the fans and then his fued with Triple H. Ken Shamrock introduced the “Tap Out” into wrestling where as it wasn’t apart of wrestling before. Submissions were to knock another wrestler out where the referee would do the raise the guys hand three times to see if he was out. Usually the wrestlers hand would fall twice and almost fall the third time but then the wrestler would make his comeback on the third hand check. WWE(F) wrestlers were treated like top talent by the end of the attitude era to rub it in WCW’s face and get the unused and abused talent to jump ship. Even most kid carders were shown as top guys during shows compared to what they are treated like today. There were more belts at the time. Cruiser, USA, European, HardCore, Women’s (turned into Diva), InterContinental, Tag, WWF(E) Universal Championship, the MillionDollar Belt, (eventually l) the Heavyweight Belt, which turned into the Undisputed Champion when Chris Jericho won both Heavyweight and WWE Universal Championship Belts, and light heavyweight belt (I may be missing one or two). The tag team division was more fun and entertaining and had better tag teams. The women’s division is probably better today as far as having better female wrestlers. But then it was a mix of female wrestlers and divas until the 2000s when it went to straight diva for a while. Midcarders were treated like royalty and were almost always fun to watch. The Godfather and his Ho Train always gave me a laugh. Today his theme music has no references to the “Ho Train” and no gorgeous scantily dress women come out with him if he makes an appearance (which sucks). Even DX can’t tell the crowd to “Suck it” relying on audience participation and can’t even do the crotch chop. The viewership and audience was at an all time high then and hasn’t gone back to those levels. Most people I have debates with were just kids back then and the targeted audience at that time was for a much older audience instead of today. They sell more merchandise today because the targeted audience is kids in diapers today and parents buy crap for them. WWE states they go PG for the sponsors. But if wrestling was as white hot today as it was back then they would have no problem getting sponsees because they’d be begging to be apart of wrestling again.

    In what world did Raven defined wrestling in the 1990s more than the Undertaker. The undertaker was THE monster of the WWF in the 1990s. So much that they had to create entirely new characters just to be his foil i.e Mankind and Kane. Him and Bret were the only remnants of the Golden Era when the old guard left (hbk wasnt a main event star until 1995), and once Bret left it was only Taker, that was feuding with Hogan, Warrior, Savage, and Piper, while still being able to go toe to toe with John Cena, Batista, Edge, and CM Punk. The Undertaker was undoubtedly a man who defined wrestling in the 90s

    I agree with the list but I would have Swapped Bret and Austin. Bret screams the 90s and was the Hogan/Cena of the 90s. His progression from 90 to 2000 is a cool story. I like Austin too but he didn’t really take of completely til 98. He started getting big in 96 and 97 but 98 is where things really went for him. Bret was Champ for damn near the entire decade. Tag champ 90/91, Intercontinental Champ 91/92, WWF Champ 92/93/94/95/96/97, King of the Ring 93, Royal Rumble Winner 94, Wcw Tag Champ/US Champ, and World Heavyweight Champ for Wcw. They guy was everywhere and did everything. I wish I could transfer that Hitman into todays wrestling to bring back good storytelling, psychology, and technical wrestling.

    Great video. I'm not one of those snooty "why didn't you put him in there" or "he should be here instead of here", but just to weigh in for fun, id like to say that Rock and Hogan should be switched. Hogan, even for waning popularity and stale gimmick in the early 90s, was absolutely the top dog. And if you're gonna give Rock a good spot when he only really blasted off in the last 3 years of the decade, you really gotta consider Hogan. Really, even though Stone Cold is my favorite wrestler, nobody can deny that NWO Hogan is PURELY a thing of the 90s. You can see the cover of stuff like WCW Vs NWO Revenge clearly in your head. NWO itself is pure 90s lore. With it at the forefront, WCW dominated for awhile. But still great list and video, I'm not a nay sayer haha
