Lavender grows well in the southern regions of Australia. My wife used to keep a couple of lavender plants in the front garden, and when they were at the peak of flowering, pick bunches of the flowering stalks. She would tie them in bundles, and hang them in her wardrobe to scent her clothing, and keep away moths. When the lavender ran out of scent, I would give her recent fine shavings from a large piece of Huon pine I had, (legally obtained from lake salvaged logs). A native timber from Tasmania, and very scarce. This she would hang in her wardrobe in small cheesecloth bags. It's strong sweet pine fragrance replacing the lavender, as well as keeping the moths away. It's always a case of making the best of what's available where you are. Glad to see you enjoyed your visit to the lavender farm.
I live a few minutes from that farm! You should have popped in for a coffee. You were very close to the gliding centre, that’s great fun. Did you eat at Loch Leven’s Larder? Did you go to the island Castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned? I’m assuming it was in the late Summer/early Autumn as the Lavender fields have been harvested now.
I love lavender, I’ve got a few growing in my garden. Lavenders are good for a lot of things especially headaches.
