Facts. Been doing this TH-cam thing since 2006. The worst years were ones worried about what everyone else is doing. Struggled with the same thing FOREVER about my videos not being “art”
As someone who has been creating content for 17 years I totally agree that it’s so hard not to get caught up in what others do, and ultimately critiquing your own work against there’s. We also have the issue of likes, subscribers, views etc and sometimes it can give a sense of maybe our art just isn’t what people want just because the algorithm decided not to push it. You’re doing a wonderful job and I certainly enjoy the content.
Thank you so much this is literally so much more heartfelt than I deserve and I’m so so happy and at peace with everything creatively right now. Comments like this just amplify those feelings more 🙏😊
I went to college for music and remember this artist in residence talking about how he idolised this famous sax player Wayne Shorter, and after all these years he finally met him and the immediate realisation he had was that they’re just not the same person. Thats the reason they didn’t play the same, and ultimately, thank goodness for that. There’s a lot of people who’s work I admire, but to make their exact work and style would mean having to be them, trading all of the things about you that only you’ve got you know? Thats sweet you’re leaning into your thing and your life too, and my guess is that feeling a bit more free or light about it all is a good sign. Plus leaning into your thing can bring it to a super high level and then it would be the same as all the other people who do their own thing well! Anyways, thanks for being super open, and also thats sweet that youre a pop, I hope to earn a hat like that one day dood!
Wow. This is such an insanely amazing comment Brendan. Thank you so much 🙏 Agree. So at peace. So happy. Chasing what I love. And people like you seeing that just makes my cup so full. Thank you for being so kind and thoughtful. The dad medal is pretty sweet. Not for everyone, but if that is something you want I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you again 🙏
Thank you man, yeah truly seems so simple but we all get so in our own heads. Funny how certain things click at different times throughout life. Just love it :)
TH-cam is really cool since I get to be a part of this conversation and I'm forever honored that you like my work. It's amazing just how subjective art is. I have my own list of artists that feel untouchable. My perception of them as true 'artists' makes what I do feel so far away from being real art. Ultimately the title or the badge or whatever doesn't really matter. If you're fulfilled and happy then art be dam*ed. 'Fulfilled' is a far more noble adjective to strive to describe yourself with than 'artist.' You're the man Jake!
You freaking beautiful and fantastic human. Stay awesome and thank you for just being so kind 😊 Truly so stoked our paths crossed 🙏 Fulfilled to the absolute brim 🥹
Like you said, art is subjective. To me that means it doesn't matter whether we consider the things we make art or not, unless it has some impact on how we make them. I like to think of most things I make as art, and I think that can help me to not be afraid of taking chances and doing things differently. I guess it's more about thinking artistically for me than making art. A focus on the process rather than the outcome. I don't see much purpose in labeling things one way or another, but I do see a purpose in being intentional about how I create. Idk, just rambling. So happy to see that you've been enjoying your work more than ever and that the internet has been responding favorably!
Totally agree! Fulfillment has been put on the back-burner and I am so happy I finally found it. Thanks for your support as always throughout the years man :)
I think we (as a society) should expand the concept of Art. If you can express yourself in any way, that's very much Art no matter how you look at it! Great video once again Jake🔥
