I Made DaVinci FEEL like Final Cut... part 2
I use davince resolve, but thinking about final cut as I use mac
I used Final Cut Pro studio in the day. And when they changed it to final cut pro 10 with magnetic timeline, I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I have da Vinci resolve studio and love it because I’m used to that type of timeline. But I’m torn. Because I still want to learn Final Cut Pro. To my question what what is your criteria to use one or the other. Thanks.
Oh man. This ain’t easy to answer in a comment. I would subscribe. I make all kinds of breakdowns and pros and cons. It’s not an easy answer but I think learning both can have huge advantages for sure
@ yes, I have been in subscriber. With DR 9.1 I really like the blank fill because I do a lot of TikTok challenge ads. Thanks for responding to my comment or question.
Nice Video. I own a pc with an rtx4080 but i want so switch to apple. I play games here and there but its ok when Liftoff runs as my FPV sim. I dont need 3D rendering, i only need a good and stable davinci performance and the mobility. I tought my rtx is faster than an Apple chip but thats apparently not correct.
I think it just depends on what you’re doing. But yeah Apple silicon is crazy
I can’t understand why FCP doesn’t have an easy fade at the beginning and end of a clip, like davinci and others where you grab the end of the clip and pull the opacity back as far as you need to. Or have I missed something?
Nope you haven’t. It only has that for the audio. Otherwise for the video you have to use a transition. I also think it is crazy 🤪
FCP is "simpler"; not Faster than Davici. I used both for yearsI make feature films; not TH-cam short content though....
You don’t think basic cutting is faster?
@ faster how?
Have you considered making a video about opensource video editors like shotcut or kdenlive?
Years ago I did :) would be interesting to see where they are at these days
Are you broadcasting from a decrepit war bunker in Iraq? lmao
haha, the "Dorky Daddy war bunker" 🤣
I started on FCP and migrated to Resolve about a year and a half ago. I think the best NLE in 2024 is the one that you enjoy using and makes sense to you. If you love Final Cut, great. If you love Resolve, great. If you love Premiere, stop throwing your money away, but great. I can only speak to my own experience, but the major reasons for my switch (I do mostly video podcasts, explainers, and promotional videos) are: 1. Resolve just has objectively better audio tools. Between its ability to easily send audio clips to an external DAW like Izotope RX and back and its built in noise and reverb reduction, to its more DAW-like Fairlight page that can open a lot (but still not all) of my audio plugins, it's a total no brainer here. 2. Fusion. Apple sells Motion as an equivalent software, but it is an extra cost, is an external program (meaning you have to render to send) and IMO far less capable than Fusion. The power of the nodes workflow is undeniable and it just has a lot more features and options for creating your own motion graphics, presets, titles, and transitions. 3. Color. I don't think I need to explain this one. Resolve's color tools are the clear winner. 4. Price. This is a big one for me and I wish I had realized it sooner. On the surface, they cost the same. $300. But in FCP, you'll find yourself constantly shopping for plugins. New titles, new transitions, new capabilities. While Resolve also has a 3rd party ecosystem, the hard pill for FCP users to swallow is that out of the box, Resolve has a lot of what you have to pay extra with FCP already built-in. 3D camera tracking, AI roto (solved for FCP finally), 3D workspace, etc. Resolve is just the cheaper option as well. I shudder at the hundreds, if not thousands of dollars I wasted on third party plugins that Resolve has native. 5. Lastly, Apple has made their priority clear here. FCP is an afterthought for them. They are a hardware company first and that is where their focus is. Final Cut has consistently lagged behind the other NLEs and has for years and years at this point. The fact that everyone is so excited about Magnetic Mask is a testament to that. Resolve has had this feature for literally 4 years already. FOUR YEARS. Even though Apple finally did a much-needed update with FCP11, it's still behind and will likely stay behind for the foreseeable future.
I don't want to be platform limited because of the software I choose to edit in. So Final Cut is out. Premiere needs a very expensive subscription, so obviously DR it is for me.
Perfect reasoning right here 🫡
do I understand correctly ? I can download the stuff from lobo__films and use it for video editing?
Hey I purchasefd it after your video but ive got a problem.. When I try to animate some png out of my frame it crops it before it reaches the border of the video. Is it only working on full hd ? Do you know the solution?
Frame it up with regular transform (Final Cut ones) changes so it is “all the way in” the frame. Then, use easy easy to keyframe 🫡
@ yup but when I want to animate it so it slides from outside screen it shows appearing from somewhere in the image not from the video border
@@jakefelzien wrote to you on ig hope you don’t mind
When I see this, someone trying to compare this 2 and premiere, yo don't have a clue of the power of Resolve, 95% of the studio version its in the free one, the color page and fusion, its enough to have Davinci, where in FCP you have this two to work so easy, those 2 don't come close premiere and fcp. in the studio version of FCP, when they bought Final Touch, (color) soundtrack, the editing part, it was good then, just because they now made it easy to rotoscope, you thinks they're close, wait instill Blackmagic come out whit more update, and you have to wait on Apple a few years from now for update, you let me know. Resolve its the only way to go.
I’m not sure you listened very well to what I had to say. Mostly the context section of where I’m coming from part
@@jakefelzien never watched the video, they're all the same, DR its a superior NLE, hands down.
I just subscribed you fing dork lol
FCP 11......still a joke...... and I own FCP but I switched over too Resolve and I don't think I'm going back.
How is it a joke?
TH-camr and content creator over here! I'm sticking with FCP, but I would be lying if I said I didn't feel like I'm missing out on a better captioning tool and transcript editing. But slap that into FCP and some advanced color control and I'm a happy camper
Man wouldn’t that just be awesome
In terms of the magic mask, I had this complicated scene where I was trying to mask out things inside a doorframe to make it look like you walked into a completely different scene. There were a bunch of random objects and different shading, so it would be hard for AI to figure out. Final Cut for me actually did a poor job. It wouldn't mask out exactly what I wanted. So I tried Davinci and the results were much better. So I think it really depends. I think for simple objects, maybe the Final Cut one would work better.
I could definitely see a more simple scene being apples default training model for sure
Wow, I actually have both and have been flip flopping between them as well. I use Davinci and I'm blown away with their noise isolation. Final Cut has it too, but it just doesn't have the same results. Then I go back to Final Cut and I'm like... damn, the ease of editing on this is great. There isn't a lot to think about and the media organization is just better. In the end, I tend to lean more towards Davinici just because I feel I achieve better results even though that ends up costing me more time.
That’s why I like to mix the tools 🤓
FCP with a year subscription of MotionVFX's DesignStudio is all I need.
Saweet!!!!
I'll definitely be trying FCP one day it really does look slick and amazingly geared towards QoL features, Davinci is my bread and butter though. As long as its not premiere I'm happy 😭🔥
Fantastic answer 🫡🫡
L and J cuts are much easier than you think to do in resolve. Just hold option and select only audio or video and drag. And I hate magnetic timeline for some reason maybe it’s because I don’t think it’s precise.
It’s not easy to blend the audio to interrupt each other with l and j cuts like I like to do though
@yeah that’s true. If you want to blend then Final Cut is easier
I like your fight. Keep us updating. That’s important topic
I’m always here to do my best and inform 🤔
man. Ive been between FCP and DR Free for the past year now after being a life long FCP user. I'd say I have a good understanding of DR now and gave it a true use. That being said, at the end of the day I just love how easily I can move and flow in FCP compared to DR. I feel like in DR when the project starts building up I have to think too much about what I'm doing in a track-based workflow. Moving video/audio up and down on the track? Then you have to worry about overwriting something or it just feels clunky at some points. I think the two huge differences are timeline navigation and color grading workflows. I love working in FCP but hate color grading in it so I'm either going to go all in on FCP or find a way to comfortably do everything in FCP and finish off grading in DR. I wanted to love DR so badly and have it be my only editor but man every time I go back to FCP its a breath of fresh air.
I think editing in FCP and coloring and doing graphics in resolve is a great workflow
I think it depends on your priorities. If you need speed + advanced Motion Graphic Capabilities, FCP hands down. If you need things like text based editing, precision color, tracked based workflow and very simple mograph, go with Resolve. I'd say be versatile in both, but Resolve is super deep and a steep commitment if you're trying to learn both. If you enjoy torture, go Premiere Pro. That said, FCP has pulled ahead for me.
Advanced motion graphics? 🤔 you need plugins for that. But yeah I think I agree with this
bro what resolve's mograph abilities blow final cut out of the water, around the world, and into next week. it's not even close.
How does FCP win in motion graphics?
@ Final Cut has apple motion integrated basically as a plugin. Of the 3 major packages it is the one with by far the sleekest ‘mogrt’ style of integration. Resolve has Fusion, which, while great for VFX, is still sorely lacking in mograph capability and speed.
@ I guess we have different opinions on what mograph is. I could agree with you on vfx, but motion graphics, text etc? No way. If you’re factoring in performance and ease of template creation, it’s not even close.
I can recommend an another combination, what I use right now for Social Media Content: FCP + CapCut is just a perfect couple ever 🫶🏼
ya know what would be a good video you can make. something along the lines "ALL the Plugins You NEED for Final Cut Pro" like I feel like it could be pretty useful tbh
Easy Ease. An adjustment layer. Add motion. I think that is it 🤔 Oh and just save money and buy resolve instead 😉
@@jakefelzien LOL fair
I want to edit in Final Cut using the magnetic timeline but edit color wise in DaVinci. I shoot weddings and dad videos but haven’t spent enough time in either. Might buy davinci this year
Using both for this is a perfect and incredibly easy and viable workflow
fan fact here adobe pre pro is better ( notice i use hack adobe program )
Yes, it's industry standard, but no, it's not better
@@ozedsal5581 its is most of youtubers keep doing moving to resolve and others for vues not gonna lie like all new stuff they adding in resolve they are in pre for months or years but people keep hyping shit up
Because it’s awesome. It works. And it’s mountains cheaper. Why spend more money when you don’t need to
@@jakefelzien i mean if you are in a mac yeh sure + the price is really good for what its offers + you need some plugings with it + pre pro is for the people who need more controol timeline and not that basic lot of stack layers and use after effects
Both is best, but I feel that Davinci wins when it comes for prepping for working in the industry and knowing a software that can be used on both systems. That being said, Final Cut isn't a slouch either. Been using Davinci for years, and learning Final Cut now!
I agree with this 😌
Same
I think FCP will rise late this year, especially with Apple's new intelligence. I think (hopefully) the Pro Apps team will take advantage of Apple's new AI.
Excited to see if this happens! :)
Both, clearly. No one piece of software will do every job in every situation. And while you're at it, throw in Motion - even without FCP. It's a great "non-plugin" plugin for DaVinci.
I agree! 🤝
Real Man use Final Cut 💪
One vote for FCP!!!!
Premiere Pro.
We don’t talk about that s$&@ here 😂
please.... NO
Extra Nice 🍎
Indeed 🫡
@ indeed
woooooah is these final cut captions lol
Sure are!
From this video it's obviously to me that you dont know how to use DaVinci Resolve. By you example, you need 4 moves for Final Cut BUT for DaVinci Resolve in 3. I know what you're thinking: "Yake, 3 versus 4! That doesn't really matter like whatever!" NO! It does! It absolutely matters.
And you’re absolutely wrong. It isn’t four. Tell me how it can be 4 😅
That's one way with 3 and on the other you can do in in 4 also.
@@jakefelzien English is not my native language so I would probably mess words up but maybe I'll make a short video of that two options that I was telling you about. :) Now just remmember, we are talking about how many moves not time :D It will all be clear soon :D
I know the sound. Sadly, the mic isn't picking it up particularly well. I've heard it very clear on these speakers in other videos before, so I know they can play it.
I need to figure out a better mic situation 😮💨

You are criminally kind, thank you 🥹
Are you able to do spins like when a coin spins on a table?
Like rotation you mean? Yes you can
Or do you mean perspective?
@@jakefelzien yes like rotation but on the X axis. I want to make an image of a coin look like it’s spinning in the air by constantly flipping the image left to right.
@ oh. No it can’t do keyframes on “distortion or perspective no” But for a coin flip I think you just do that with FCPs built in tools?
@@jakefelzien Oh ok, thank you!
Very original way of telling a story, yep agree magic mask is crazy fast and accurate, love ya intro and video !
Oh man so glad people liked the intro, felt like a risk 😅😅
Crazy good intro! As a Davinci Resolve editor, I'm jelly! Solid job man, keen to see more 🙌🏼
Oh man thank you so much! 🫡🫡
First of all great video man. I don't edit videos that much, I started my editing with filmora and it has this cut icon on the top of the play head which makes cutting footage so fast and I didn't even had to use my keyboard I could do it with just my mouse. When I tried other pro video editors I was so frustrated they didn't had something to make cutting footage fast. I wish other video editors add this Final Cut feature. You are first person I have seen talking about this.
Right???? I knew I couldn’t be the only one 😌

Truly handheld is the best!!!! BUT with add motion it lost some sex appeal. BUT NOW WE’RE BACK BABYYYYYY
