Question, can you/do you downshift into first without using auto-blip or is the risk of over-reving too high? P.s.- Love the enthusiasm and technical expertise you bring to your reviews.
Just drove the new 718 Spyder and I'm searching a bit for, shall I say, its "soul". I THINK it's there but hiding in latency somewhere above its hobbled 4000 RPM break-in recommendation. The problem is my current whip - a 997.2 GT3 RS with its sublime screaming flat-6 Mezger and the notchy 6-speed MT is acting a bit like a "gold standard". Bonkers. Can this new 718 Spyder / GT4, with its similar wheelbase to the 997.2, 6 sp MT and it's GT bits and bobs take on this last of the truly analogue Porsches? Hmmmm. I think it can but I'll need to jump back in once the Spyder is out of its break-in 1000 Kms. I'll report back! Thank you Janko for the great videos you produce. Super passionate and fun. I've re-watched your GT4 video to get a glimpse of what's above 4000 RPM! :)
Not sure about the punch but you are definitively right about the price. 5 stars in my book. 📚 Thanks for being around my channel Mark, its a privilege.
Excellent in depth review and stunning visuals Janko and I agree with everything you say GT4 & Spyder are indistinguishable to drive, except the seats, the excellent standard seat is my preference, also do you notice the clutch slipping in second gear when launching off? You have put a lot of work into this video JL and I hope it gets the recognition and the amount of views it deserves.
Yes a bit, it was a one take and I didn't want to make another try. My Spyder is much more solid in this case. Roger, please change seat in your Spyder and buy a 928 ;-) smile...
GREAT review Janko. Don’t be mad at me. I optioned my build with the Bose. I want to scream some great tunes with the NA orchestra in support as I wind it out on our B-Roads. Great stuff!

Great video, especially many thanks for your educational part reg the exhaust. There are so many TH-camrs analyzing the sound of an after market solution only, forgetting the impact on the overall engine System.
Thanks, G-MAN, but remember, I'm not an engineer and all my knowledge is more or less self learned or information given to me via Porsche. Perhaps you have honoured me with your subscription.
Janko, you always do an excellent job! Speaking of launch control, me as a spyder owner too have a question. When you engage the launch control you are pushing the gas pedal to the max while launching. Do you releas the clutch by taking off your feet or doing it by quick releasing? I had an issue where the clutch got stuck and didn’t come up the whole way, which ended at the end of replacing the clutch, fortunately in Porsche warranty
Hi, you need to feel the grip, both in the clutch and the wheels. You can not just let go of the clutch. It is a much more difficult task and if you listen I balance it between the wheel and thrust from the engine. I had a lot of wheel spin as I could tell from the asphalt. Sorry to hear about your car but it is mentioned in the user manual and if it did not cope then as you experience warranty needs to be applied. Porsche in general takes responsibility for their products.
Great video, as always! I'm surprised that you haven't made an in-depth Review of your Spyder yet. I know that the GT4 and the Spyder are almost identical, but I would just love to hear your long-term thoughts on the Spyder - how it feels and sounds. Cause I still don't get the big discussion on YT around the bad exhaust sound - the cars sound great to my ears.
Hmm that a tuff one, I would most likely go for the GTS with RAS or a 992 Carrera wish is not as loud (in fact the sound is terrible outside the car) don't need the 400 + HP for daily. Big thanks for your subscription and sorry for the late response.
Thank you Janko, great stuff as always! These cars are something else... You guys have an amazing club there at Sweden, I once visited the trackdays at Mantorp. Greetings from Finland

Janko, I remember in your video a couple months ago you said that you would be shocked if the GT4 was faster than your Moded 718 Cayman T. So which one is faster. GT4 or Cayman T
Very common question and I believe I've answered it in some videos too. When I am having problem to get a Sean right I switch wrist to just make a change, moving forward with my production.
Janko, I remember you saying that with the bucket seats specified, the Cayman/Boxter T was just as much fun to drive on the B Roads as a GT4(with high speed not being such a factor). Do you still believe that now that your Cayman T has been sold and you've spent more time driving your Spyder and this GT4 lately? How is your friend enjoying his new white GT4 that he collected at the same time as you collected your Spyder? Thanks for your thoughts!
With öhlins Road and track on a Cayman T and buckets same experience but my manhood counselling needs the Spyder. In fact on B-roads the torque from the Turbo is unbelievable good, no need to stress the engine. On the same breath I believe the Spyder is cheaper considering lower depreciation. Love your passion and technical insights - just laughed when you brought up the Bose nonsense - I only listen to the sound system when parked, wouldn’t want to miss out on any of the engine ‘torque’ lol - deviated stitching ? Wouldn’t know I had it - too busy concentrating on the drive and tacho !
What a review! Especially enjoyed the education on the smart exhaust. Also, loved the info on launch control. Cannot wait to try it out!! Looking forward to hearing your research results on exhaust modifications and compatibility with this new setup.
Janko Lind Indeed. I do not have many subscriptions, but I value excellent content that interests me. I appreciate and find your style and content to be utterly delightful!
Very interesting, thank you for this! Using the fuel to cool the cylinders is brutal - what a waste of fuel! Not very “green”. The best solution is the lack of particulate filters that N. American GT4/Spyders do not have!
so janko, it seems that now you're more ok with the 4.0 engine. Hi Janko. Excellent video, with some great info in there. No shortage of passion and opinions, which is refreshing as I prefer this to the generic reviews that are basically just "fluff". That said, cars are very personal things and to each their own. If (Luke) wants to raise his rear wing, then that's his prerogative, doesn't make him a "Japanese Teenager". I'm 50 years old. I am not Japanese. My GT4 arrives at the port in about an hour from now (FINALLY!). I have a box from RSNV (and some others) waiting in my office...and that's ok. Moving on, I am very interested to hear the car in person as it is a North American spec, so it may sound different. If not, then I look forward to you sharing your plans/opinions for the exhaust on your Spyder. Cheers.
Thanks Rogue, as always the last is different and I just express my thoughts and they dose are not always right or the "right way". Me, as an example, are planning to fit the GT4 front wing on my Spyder... Congratulations to your GT4, you will not be disappointed. Perhaps you have honoured me with your subscription.
Another great video. I learn a lot from you. I was not aware that the GT4 has a sound composer but the spyder does not. Am I correct that the sound composer brings in the intake sound as the 911 has had for at least the last 8 years?
...and in your case with your preferences then the GTS 4.0 is perfect. I appreciated you comment contribution to our community. Take care, and perhaps you have honored me with your subscription?
I received my Spyder on Saturday. I don’t know what some influencers on on about nothing exciting car”. I’ve owned Porsche’s and a Ferrari 360 Spyder gated manual and this Porsche Spyder is just brilliant. Only put 500 Kim on it and not gone above 5000 rpm but still corners better than anything I’ve ever had. Puts a small on your face. Thank you Porsche for being the only manufacturer currently building a manual mid engine NASP convertible.
that picture at the start is excellent. I prefer smaller cars which is why I have difficulty with the modern 911s. Maybe I should look at a Cayman (I have driven Boxsters and wasn't so impressed with the steering compared to older 911s)
Do you live at altitude? I know you own or have owned a few different 718s, did you have a GTS, what does the power loss between the FI and NA engine feel like at altitude?
@@JankoLind for some reason ur channel is marked as a kids channel I think this is a bug or it has something to do with me living in India since the sever has been a bit compermised but no alarm all your videos as notified to me through email and widget.
Puiji Saluji that’s interesting 🧐 I do mark my videos as suitable for kids, no swearing 🤬 and proper behaviour. Perhaps that make an impact on the classification?
JCR Exhaust coming up then 😉 please bring your Spyder to Gothenburg so that I can have a listen before I sell the house to buy the exhaust for my Spyder 🤣
Great video and love the GT4. Although I would be in your bad books as I would add Bose, but that’s because I would be spending far too much time driving to nice locations ready to enjoy the B roads... A small comfort and sacrifice and I can always lose a couple of kilos to offset the weight increase 😂😂 Keep the video coming!!!!
My understanding of a manual transmission is that you never want to go from 2nd to 1st unless you’re going very slow or you will wipe out the clutch. Is A Porsche manual transmission different if so how is it different?
I spec'ed my with Burmester! jk lol Mine has Bose, Apple CarPlay, and Nav though.... getting this stupid $2300 Nav just to get the Porsche Track Precision App to work with Sport Chrono sigh.
I do like the deviated stitching as the plain plastic looks ugly and I personally want the interior to look as good as the exterior. Yes, no Bose as the flat 6 is the tune you want to hear all the time
Hi Innova, there is a Porsche for everybody. If it is OK with your I disagree, stock interior dose not look plastic like many US cars, it looks race-focused.
I'ts not always easy to produce and drive at the same time. But in this case the clutch was not in its best shape and I did not want to test the launch more than ones.
Janko, confused by the M5 /M3 analogy...GT3 weighs less than GT4...not more, has same capacity engine and makes about 60 hp more than GT4...unless your comparing just the exterior dimensions?
Hi Paola, I was referring to exterior dimensions but for the record you can not compare the wight data between GT4 and 991.2 GT3. The rules is different, in my case, my privies 991.2 GT3 is 110 kg heavier in comparison to my 718 Spyder. Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription
@@JankoLind understood, thanks for the clarification. Have you had a chance to compare a Lotus product against a GT3/4 product yet? Thinking about the Lotus Exige cup 380 or 400s? I'd subscribe for that less than usual comparison ;)
Good review; thumbs up for some engine sounds. Would not harm a bit longer clips of that sound (with less bacground commentary). With regards to downforce - 12kg increase is nthing meaningful both in terms of marginal increase and total downforce which is in tens of kg @200kmh for a car weighting more than 1.3 ton. It is basically lift neutral which is not bad for road car, buth not much more.

Also, which is the better driver's car, 9111 GT3 Touring or the Porsche 718 GT4?
Tuff one, it depends if you like the motor in the middle or in the back. Thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel.
Conveyed passion is off the scale. Amazing review.
Thanks Jon, for the time you spend on my channel. perhaps you have subbed?
Janko Lind It was foolish of me not to. Subbed 🙂😎
Another great video. I learn a lot from you. I was not aware that the GT4 has a sound composer but the spyder does not. Am I correct that the sound composer brings in the intake sound as the 911 has had for at least the last 8 years?
Correct but the Spyder have a sound composer as well but it is not as effective with the top down. Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription
Hi Janko- great GT4 video- have you done a review of the 2015 Cayenne GTS which you can share with me please?
Sorry Christopher, I have not :-(
But please subscribe if you are not already for future videos.
King of the road
The GT4 could be, but as a Swedish citizen I would say it it Scania.
For me the new Boxter GTS 4.0 manual is the answer for the roads outside the track! Roof opens and closes while you’re moving too!
...and in your case with your preferences then the GTS 4.0 is perfect. I appreciated you comment contribution to our community. Take care, and perhaps you have honored me with your subscription?
Great vid JL :0) - I'm a dino too :) 22:18 you crack me up
Thanks Ziggy, It was a true of camera babble.
Nice ! Subed today. Where are the new rims in your 718 Spyder?
Welcome to our community. More videos to come, please follow me on Instagram for latest update.
Gorgeous cinema. Bravo.
Thanks Carter...
Janko
You are brilliant!!!
Thank you, tif.
“Is the same but in the Spyder you don’t have a roof” - Hence it should have been called a GT4 Spyder, not a 718!
I understand you or just Spyder.
Trey, the 718 is a new game...
Do you live at altitude? I know you own or have owned a few different 718s, did you have a GTS, what does the power loss between the FI and NA engine feel like at altitude?
Hi Tommy, I live at the sea side, sorry can't answer your question.
Janko Lind no worries man, love your content, thank you!
Great review! Looking forward to your deep dive into exhaust modification!
Thanks Jordan, tests starts this week.
Sucks we can't turn on notifications
What! why not, push the bell if you are loged in!
Janko at least they didn’t option the leather encased steering column on the GT4. Then you would have exploded. tack så mycket.
LOL, I would deffenetly tom. On a Spyder YES but GT4 BIG NO NO
lol love love this video !! i really want to wait for the upcoming GT3 but this GT4 is so hard to resist !! what do you think?
Wish I could answer this question, one of the biggest one in my head.
JCR Exhaust coming up then 😉 please bring your Spyder to Gothenburg so that I can have a listen before I sell the house to buy the exhaust for my Spyder 🤣
I start my tests this week.
Great video and love the GT4. Although I would be in your bad books as I would add Bose, but that’s because I would be spending far too much time driving to nice locations ready to enjoy the B roads... A small comfort and sacrifice and I can always lose a couple of kilos to offset the weight increase 😂😂 Keep the video coming!!!!
the problem is, if you don't have smooth roads is that you would not hear the music.
Bose is nice to have when stuck in crawling Southern California traffic. Reduces the frustration a bit. :-)
Nice review nice video as usual. Great job my friend
Thanks Moe.
I really enjoyed that and I can tell you did too! :)
Ohh yes I did.
My understanding of a manual transmission is that you never want to go from 2nd to 1st unless you’re going very slow or you will wipe out the clutch. Is A Porsche manual transmission different if so how is it different?
The GT4 have auto blipp, wish means that the engine will make the transition 100% when the clutch is raced. No harm to the clutch is made.
I spec'ed my with Burmester! jk lol
Mine has Bose, Apple CarPlay, and Nav though.... getting this stupid $2300 Nav just to get the Porsche Track Precision App to work with Sport Chrono sigh.
Congratulations to your GT4. You will not be disappointed regardless all the gadgets.
So what exaust are we going to trust? Hope you can help me. Best regards
Video will come, please, if you are not already please subscribe to my channel.
Great review as always but GT4 doesn’t stand a chance against 991.2 GT3 in terms of acceleration. Something was off.
Hi Leo, sorry but it dose. Not saying it is faster but the GT3 struggle to leave the GT4 behind. Tested it to many times now.
I vote for the Spyder nothing like a manual convertible.Another great review.
Thanks, Bob, as no surprise I vote for the Spyder too. Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription.
Beautiful Car.
It sure is.
Excellent review. Waiting impatiently for my spyder. Ok you convinced me to get a bucket seat. Car and driver however said avoid it like a plaque!
You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a driver car. BTW thanks for your subscription, it means a lot to me.
I think the GT4 is sublimely beautiful.
Yes it is, agree. Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription
Janko Lind Thank you for making enjoyable videos 🙂👍🏻

Janko Lind - I don’t have Instagram
Looking forward to the new exhaust review.
Thanks Daniel, tests starts this week.
If you care about the badge you'll buy a 911 Carrera. If you care about driving, you'll buy a Cayman GT4.
For me there is no status in between the two badges you mention, but we are all different people. Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription?
I put a titanium Akrapovic exhaust on my 997.2 4S, expensive, but worth it In my opinion.
Congratulations to your 997. Have you seen my 997.2 review?
Janko almost blew a heart valve at 11.10.
Yes, that was close LOL, Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Love your videos!
Thanks John
"I"m getting too lold for this shit..." lmao
what happened to your gt4 friend?
With Johan, nothing, he still drives his GT4 with a big smile on his face.
BMW M2 but M3 if choosing over M5. 718 GT4 over 911. Like the 911 for cruising across long distances.
I should have mentioned the M2 you are right. BMW is not my cup of tea.
@@JankoLind Thank you for taking time to reply. To each their own. Keep up the good work. Cheers
@@Innovaenergyser I try my best to find time, sometimes my reply is a bit late...
05:50 🤦♂️ next time, the gear change will be better 😉
I'ts not always easy to produce and drive at the same time. But in this case the clutch was not in its best shape and I did not want to test the launch more than ones.
this or large missile like the M5, E63S, etc?! (if only one car for 5 years...3000 miles a year, no tracking)
I vote 🗳 for GT4. Perhaps you have honoured me with your subscription
Janko, confused by the M5 /M3 analogy...GT3 weighs less than GT4...not more, has same capacity engine and makes about 60 hp more than GT4...unless your comparing just the exterior dimensions?
Hi Paola,
I was referring to exterior dimensions but for the record you can not compare the wight data between GT4 and 991.2 GT3.
I agree about the downforce, more impressive with the Spyder since it is a convertible. Also thank you for contribution to our community. Take care
So no No Lift Shift as confirmed by Andrea Preuninger in your older Goodwood GT4/Spyder video.
Correct a big disappointment for me :-( Perhaps you have honored me with your subscription
@@JankoLind Long time subscriber here and it was your NLS talks on the 991.2 GT3 video that motivated me to get one myself. Heard rumors there'll be an RS Spyder coming so hopefully NLF will be on that car.
I’m going to order a GT4 with 18 way adjustable seats and deviated stitching just to annoy you 😂
Oh, and Bose 👍
You might convert me, how knows.
