Fractal does update a lot. Sometimes even their older legacy products. I remember getting an Ares update for the old Axe FX II long after the III was on the market, because they had found a way to port some of the III's features into the II. That was a nice parting gift.
with the addition of gapless switching you can keep the presets simple and switch between them with ease. Even adding the FC-12 or FC-6 footswitch gains you access to more switches at one time.
I agree! I have gazillions of premium IRs from all well known companies but since Fractal released their Dynacabs it's hard to go back to legacy. I think their Dynacabs sound more alive, juicier (if that makes sense). Commonly I use the Recto Straight but just recently I got to love the 2x12 Stealth cab as well 😍
Some of the things they've implemented in recent firmwares have really made them more efficient - with gapless switching, I was able to rebuild my presets and reduce CPU load by about 20%. If I was doing originals, I'd probably be able to get by with the FM3; I've spent a lot of time doing covers as well, so the AxeFX III with an FC-12 makes more sense for me in that context. I can run wedges or go into the power section of my 6505+, either way sounds amazing. I've never looked back!
Awesome!! More fractal content!! :) I'm glad you're one of those youtubers that just creates content with every single unit out there and is just honest! The past couple of days TH-cam has just been flooded by Quad Cortex videos with their latest update use of the plug ins. Even seeing artists now working with Neural, I can only think it's just all paid partnership. I have a few of their plug ins but found them to be massively overhyped.. Im still running the trusty old Axe Fx 2 XL and it's just amazing in every way.. Im always keeping a close eye on all of Fractals new updates.
I first bought a Fractal Mkii in 2013 after seeing Ola's vids demoing it. Loved it. When the AX8 was announced I got on the waiting list, and figured I'd buy a Kemper from Sweetwater to be able to compare them side by side and if I didn't love the Kemper just send it back. Loved that too. I've only had to buy one Kemper unit. I bought 3 different Fractal units just to be compatible with new firmware. I could never choose a clear winner. They're both great and better than each other at certain things. The ability to profile an amp is an amazing advantage. I've bought my last Fractal unit. They made my decision for me.
I just got my fm3 mk2 turbo and I love it. It does everything I need. No more use for pedals. I run it into a Seymour Duncan power stage 170 and orange 2x12 cab. Output 2 goes into my audio interface, with cab sim on. In all my years of playing it’s easily the best piece of kit I’ve bought for my playing. Would feel very confident gigging with this. Honestly if you’re thinking about getting one, just do it!
I actually watch your videos to figure out which one I want.. my wife keeps discouraging me away due to my upcoming surgery. Have fun my friend you sound great.
This thing is sick and seems like a steal at $1000. The tones I got when borrowing one were easier to land on than everything else. You can easily get away with this as an all in one rig.
still my favourite modeller, sounded incredible through the tube power amp 🤘 try parallel boosting within the fractal before the amp to get some really interesting boosted tones ( HM-2 style brutal hi gain grind etc.., got some videos on that on my channel if you want to check that out =) in terms of best modeller, i like to think of it a bit like which DAW you prefer to use : 'it's the one you're most comfortable on to use' , you can get excellent results out of a lot of rigs these days, it's awesome greetings from Luxembourg
@@kkpiemels3113 im happy to inform you that the FM3 is 5 years old. Fractal is at least 5 years ahead of everyone. Possibly more because you can damn near mirror these sounds with an AxeFx II. You may be referring to the fm3 turbo with 10% more DSP power.
@@YTisGay version 2 is from last year. Most of the units people use are still older gens. The only new ones on the market are some budget ones and the fender and neural. And the neural has more options as well
THANK YOU Ola, I have an FM9 Turdo and am very happy with it. I think there's more available as far as updates and presets than the Quad Cortex, which I sold to buy the FM9 Turbo. It would be nice if you explained how you play through the FM3 in your home studio. I play mine through two powered JBL monitors. THANKS again.
I've got the original FM3 and the Quad Cortex. They both sound great. I'm planning on selling the FM3 just because it only has 3 buttons and the QC works better on a pedal board because of the power supply. I could be happy with either one, I'd just need a 6 button midi switcher with the FM3 so it would increase the size of the pedal board. Plus, in my opinion, the Fractal has too many options for most players. The QC is much easier to navigate for beginners.
Just wait until the new AxeFX Firmware 27 Beta trickles down. Loaded it up and my presets immediately sounded even better! The Amp modeling is getting a nice bump in quality.
You justified my purchase 😂😂on the subject about touch screen. Apple is going back to push buttons because touch screens are not functioning well after alot of use. Cars and phones. That’s what I e been reading anyways. I do like touchscreens
Not having a touch screen can even be an advantage live. Additionally you can use the performance pages of the FM3 where you can assign EVERY knob of ANY GIVEN component in the signal chain for quick editing. Love it! And I still think that the modeling quality of Fractal is still superior to the rest of the pack 🤘🏻😍
I have a fm3 turbo and a QC. They are both great units, but i prefer the fractal. It`s just easier to get a great sound without to much hassle. There is not a bad sounding amp in it. At least to my ears. The QC has the capture ability which is cool, but lacks alot in the fx department.
Hi Ola, how are you? I would like to ask you some questions about fm3 3 vp4 and I hope you can answer me because I have to decide which of the two to buy! How many effects presets does Fm3 have in total? (not amps presets but effects presets) How many effect presets does Vp4 have in total? Does it have more effects than fm3 and is the sound better than fm3? I await your response, thanks in advance
Ola isn't going to respond i gues. The VP4 is just the fm3 without amp modeling. Just like the FX8 was the effects part of the AX8. Do you only need effects with your tube amp? Get the VP4. Do you want amp modeling and FX? get the FM3.
Is there a page or a video to go to that explains the different Solar guitar models in detail, on the site there is little to no information on this especially for guitar types that on the surface seem very similar? Anyone please help
Is there a way of having the power amp off on the output to a real amp but keep it active for the line out to desk/PA output or do you need to have 2 amps in the signal chain ?
those are the hard to swallow pills... that you _can_ get great tones out of all the modellers. It's just a question of "quality of life" type things, I.E my new Quad Cortex vs my old AxeFX II -- touch screens, encoders on the switches etc... but at home, it's all about the editor software anyway.

The sound of these units is barely half of it for. They need to have the right "feel" too. To me that includes response, dynamics, latency and other stuff. I bought one and I am not happy with it.
