Labs are just awesome. I had 1 that was overweight, and he IMMEDIATELY took to a treadmill for fun. These dogs are so remarkable as they adapt so quickly to anything.
This video confirms, information is so vague everywhere wherever I seek advice on actual quantity; you have to make it up yourself and see how he gets on.
Just what I thought! Nothing specific...just vague motherhood statements!
I have a rather pure bred large yellow lab. A good few inches over 2 ft, probably 2 and 4 inches or so at the shoulders, and around 85-90 lbs. He isn't slim and could probably stand to lose a few lbs, but he's a big solid boy, and I figure that in AK a couple lbs isn't going to hurt him when he's out swimming in the cold water or running around outside in the winter. Oddly enough he started as the runt of the litter! He gets a cup and a half of food 2x a day, along with lettuce, cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, or whatever other dog-edible veggy scraps I have from preparing my own food. The only veg he won't eat is celery, unless I chop it up really fine and hide it in his food. Rarely, I'll throw some of the drippings from meat I'm broiling or whatever for a little extra fat in his diet, but his favorite treats are the skins from my smoked salmon though. He absolutely loves them, to the point that he barely gives me room enough to breath if he sees me move a pack of smoked salmon around in the freezer, or even so much as smells some on me!
It's too general, didn't get to know how much and how often to feed my nearly a year old pup...
Bertie (21 months) is a rather small working type (31KG) , we've been using Pedigree packets plus the dry mixer. Feed him twice a day, two pouches, handful of dry mix with it. He's kept at the 30-31KG for over a year now. We had so much trouble with his dog food once he hit about 5 months, he really did not like the kibble that the breeder had told us to get and he would not eat for days at one point. In a panic, I decided to try some wet food and we realised he much preferred it to dry, problem is it made things even more savage at the other end!
Exercise wise, I take him out for around 2 hours a day, mix of lead and off lead (depending on how busy the area is) my folks also take him out once or twice a day and typically play in the front garden with him for 15-20mins each day. The thing is, once you take him out at a certain time of day, he bloody remembers and will come to you for his walk at that time. Once home, he will come back to you if he normally is taken out at that time, even if it is 30 mins after you get back in! Some times I think it's the dog who has me trained lol!
Pedigree is crap food.
Thank you for providing v good information
My 4yr old Lab has had the same dry food since he was a pup and then his treats change from time to time. Is there concern for needing to change/vary this? He will eat anything he finds on the field when off the lead which will occasionally test his stomach depending on what it is! Would you recommend a varied diet or is eating the same food his entire life okay? The food he gets covers all of his nutritional needs obviously.
I have an 4 year old overweight lab and am hoping this will help I also have a akita so I whant to help my lab lose weight so they both can play together again
I changed my labs diet to the same as mine instantly after getting her from the breeder. The diet is only meat and water. the lab eats all her meat raw. I only eat some of my meat raw.
I have a 2 yr old boy. 5-600g of raw a day.
However, 2 hrs of exercise a day is completely unrealistic for working owners and unnecessary. Take them out for 2 hrs on a weekend, don't take them at all if you're not feeling it. These dogs are adaptable and a 'non routine' routine is best.

Is basically 100 g of food equals one cup cup of food so an adult dog is an adult dog of 400 mg Of nutritional healthy food is about If 4 cups of food per day so 2 cups in the morning 2 cups at night
Could anyone tell me the best or healthiest dog food for a Labrador Retriever puppy?
What food brand do you recommend for feeding labs? We are getting a puppy in July😊
Anything that is a good brand
U can give royal canin,pedigree pro n&d
I use doctor John for our lab he's been great on it
I’d say look at the crud ash that will give you a good idea of the quality of the ingredients. If it’s below 4% then it good quality dog food any higher than 6% you should avoid it. It’s not good quality dog food. The meat content should be at least 40%. I’d recommend Lily’s kitchen or barking heads their really good.
You mentioned a puppy should be given between 211-237 grams of feed is that per day or meal ?
My Brownie eats 4 times a day. She gets breakfast at 8 oclock. Then lunch at noon and afternoon tea at 4 pm. All these meals are dryfood from Royal Canin specialised for Labradors. At 20.00 she gets her special treat for the day. That could be tuna, eggs or ham and mixed with boiled potatos, rice or pasta. During the day she gets treats such as carrots, cucomber and melon.
Even though she gets a lot of food she is still a small lab. Our vet calls her a petite lab which is very good :)
You don´t have to feed your labrador a lot of bad stuff just to keep him/her happy. It´s a strugle to keep your lab happy but you can do it with a lot of exersice, mental training and healty food.
That’s way to much one of the secrets for dogs is to give them a healthy food and try your best to not make him overweight
I feed my 4 year old Lab a cup and half of kibble twice daily. He does not get much exercise. He’s not over weight though. He weighs 65 Lbs.
I feed my 5 year old the same as you and she is at 100 lbs. She has free range of our 5 acre lot so she is pretty fit. I guess she is big boned :)
How big is a cup?

My 13 year old, 100#, white lab has 2 cups of kibbles n bits in the morning & about 2/3 cup in the evening. We tried other ( healthier) food when he was a pup, but he couldn’t tolerate it. Always vomited. He is really slowing down. Should I decrease his food?
Hi please help me I have a 3 month old Labrador male puppy…..he has thick bones and good sling but he is not gaining weight even though I feed him meals 3 times a day which contains all of nutrients still he is not gaining weight….please help me
Thanks for watching! When it comes any health concerns with your dog, we'd always recommend chatting to your vet as they are best placed to help and track progress 🙂
Has your puppy started gaining weight?
Hi, I'm new to your channel and enjoy all the videos. Completely off the subject on video, but I noticed that your videos don't feature much on the Fox Red English Labrador. I have a 13 wk old and realized they're not featured much on anything. I wanted to know why from an experts perspective.
🙌🏻👏🏻
Thank you
is 400 grams a meal of kibble too much for a labrador ?
This video offers no real help regarding food and feeding beyond what is written on the packs of commercial dog food of reputed canine food manufacturers.
Seriously i want my 5minutes and 52 seconds back
Every Dog is different, check with your Vet, Not this Woman that knows Nothing but her own Opinion.
