    Thank you so much sir, I play amateurish piano for 10 years now ,just playing songs that I love ,but unfortunately leaving the fundamentals, then I noticed that I was stuck when I couldn't play any of the Classical Pieces that I really love ,Now I finally decided to improve my skills and start from Zero again and you are helping me so much with scales and arpeggios and I am trying my best.
    Many many thanks sir.

      I really admire your dedication. As someone who's been playing on and off for about 5 years at a beginner level, there has been times when I've felt more comfortable giving up as I'm not improving anyway. I'm going to follow your example, and won't let my dispirit lose to my motivation.

    Merci for this. I'm watching this again 5 months later since I realized that arpeggios are very important. I came across the Hanon book at my music store and have been using it, especially for arpeggio fingering. It's invaluable especially for other keys, and I'm taking my time trying to get it down with the correct fingering.

    Kristina Zimmerman on scherzo No 2 has the smoothest arpeggio I’ve ever seen. It’s a b flat arpeggio and his hand remains incredibly stable and he moves incredible smoothly. He is my reference for piano technique.

    For true beginners: hands alone first. Hand over hand is another good exercise for beginning arpeggios. One of my favorites for the advanced beginner or intermediate student is to play three octaves (trip-le-ty, trip-le-ty, etc.) up and down, through all the major keys. Another method takes you two octaves through all the inversions, beginning with the root of the chord and ending each arpeggio sequence with the I, IV, and V chords in their respective inversions. (And then do the minors!)

    Thank you for recommending the Hanson 60 Virtuoso Exercises.
    It has become very fashionable these days to put down Hanson as dry and boring.
    Show me some finger exercises that aren’t dry and boring? Liszt? Philipp? Pischna? Plaidy? Dohnanyi?
    I find that Hanon is of great importance in my personal playing as well as my teaching.
    Show me someone who has mastered the Hanon 60 at a great rate of speed and I will show you a great pianist - if practiced correctly.

    Very interesting. Here in the UK our exam board the Associated Boa6 of the Royal Scools of Music insist on 4 semiquavers per beat in playing
    arpeggios. Playing triplets means the thumb only is accentuated whereas fingers 1,2and 3 and 5,4 and2 in the left hand get equal treatment using semiquavers.

    For arpeggios starting on Bb, Eb, Ab do you recommend following the scale pattern (starting on fingers 4, 3 or perhaps 2) or is it OK to start on the thumb? When arpeggios feature in pieces it seems to me that it can often make sense to start on the thumb.

    • @LinInABin
      @LinInABin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When doing left hand you can actually choose. So he used finger 4 instead of 3 simply because he found it more comfortable for him.

    Hi sir, thank you for the excellent practice summary!
    I notice that at about 4:10 and you are doing the C major arpeggios, that your right hand is using fingers 1, 2 & 3, but your left hand is using 1, 2 & 4. Is that a recommended practice, or "just how I learned to do it" ?

    • @meharchumble3695
      @meharchumble3695 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It should be whatever comes naturally to you. Depends on the size of your hands and flexibility of your fingers, so just do what you feel is most comfortable.

    I’m a little confused with the raised finger approach as I’ve seen many virtuosi using this technique but then it is discouraged with “anatomical” arguments or those you can find mainly in Taubman approach. (Sorry for English)

    My piano teacher was Italian in college and the correct term is Arpeggi for plural. Most music terms are in English now yuck yuck, I miss the allegro or adagio etc on my music pages. I guess the staff markings are still there. Music has changed in the last few decades. At least as a publisher aspect.

      Sorry that you are being forced to play the piano! One thing you may be interested to know is that I have met hundreds of people who have told me that they played piano as a kid and gave it up and regretted it ever since. I have never had anyone tell me that they played piano and wished they hadn't.
      If you have the right teacher and a good instrument to play, it can make all the difference in the world for enjoying the piano. Good luck!

    Interesting, as a beginner with TWO hands playing this kind arpeggio in NO WAY to play in 60 beats...maybe I just stupidly untalented.
