NOTE: Copper Chloride is a turquoise color. Pen used for writing sample altered color to look more green. Now pen writes with color closer to the color card.
I bought 4 of their new inks recently. My favorite is Hygrangea. It goes onto the paper in blue. When it dries, it turns a nice violet. It's a fun ink to write with.
Chris, this is such a great video. I love the science of ink. I'd have loved to have you as an art professor or something. I'll just have to keep on enjoying these wonderful niblets of knowledge you offer on the tube. Cheers and thank you.
Thank you for introducing me to Birmingham Inks. I was not aware that we have other US based ink manufacturers beside Noodlers. End up ordering three 120ml bottles. They are different type of inks than what I have in my collection at the moment between Noodlers, Diamine, Monteverde and Iroshizuku.
I bought the very excellent Mariana Trench special edition pen and Birmingham Pens sent along a bottle of Ice Rink. It is an awesome royal blue akin to their Pitt Panther Blue. It is part of the “swift” collection, but is not super wet so it shades beautifully and has just a tiny bit of sheen. I love blue inks but I promised myself that I would not buy any more until I had fewer than 10 blue inks. Since I technically didn’t buy Ice Rink, I can use it with impunity which is great because it has become one of my favorites. Thanks for the video and adding more beautiful inks I can lust after. Birmingham continues to grow their already stellar brand!
Those are some great sheening inks! And thank you for promoting another midwestern pen person! OK...Copper (I) Chloride or Copper (II) Chloride? I've watched the video and could make an argument for either one, aside from the solubility thing... And I'm a fan: I went to college near where they do their work!
Like you, I really like Birmingham Pens & Inks! I currently own four "Sixth Avenues" and several bottles of ink. Matter of fact, their turquoise ink is in rotation this month. I have it in my Aurora Optima "Emerald" ... perfect match!
This was fun-loved seeing you make the swab cards. Why did the copper chloride look turquoise in the shot of all the inks together but GREEN in the writing sample? Was it tungsten light (yellow) turning it Green?
Other viewers have also mention the color change. I did not notice while filming. I only use LEDs (full spectrum) & sunlight for filming. To my eyes, copper chloride looks more green. There maybe be a little blue, that could explain the turquoise look. Thanks for watching.
After further investigation, the green color was from ink contamination in the pen. The pen is now writing with a more turquoise color, like the color card shows. I didn't notice when I was making video.
Thank you for this nice review. In the first writing sample Copper Chloride looks somewhat turquoise to me, but in the last writing samples it's a green ink. Is it me, or has the paper such an influence?
@@chrisrap52 I trust you keep your color temperature locked in the camera, but could it be you kept it locked between two very different lighting setups? Because between blueish turquoise and leaf green that variation is huge. I found that to be the biggest problem when shooting with LED lights to the point I just gave up on doing ink reviews on my channel until I get incandescent lights and a better camera, it's just too frustrating to get consistent colors with such thin spectrum light sources. I'm mixing led lights of two temperatures, wait 5-10 minutes for colour stabilisation of the LED elements, and still it's not close to a balanced spectrum.
Mystery solved. Pen had some leftover ink, Robert Oster Jade, (I had disassembled & thoroughly cleaned but), ink is turquoise, not green. Pen writes with now the same color as the color card shows. I added a pinned comment stating this. I don't mess with camera settings as my eyes are not as good as the camera. I use intense LEDS & sunlight to provide a broad spectrum of light. Camera showed the right color, pen changed it.
Thank you for sharing. I wish there was a way to avoid using those ear buds in your tests. They contaminate the nature and take 400 years to disintegrate. They dont get recycled as much as we like to believe.

I guess it is quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream new movies online ?
@Kayson Malakai thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
@Jon Jett Glad I could help :D

Thanks, Chris. I hadn't visited the Birmingham website for a while and these colors and names are new to me.
Nick & Josh are now making their inks. They are great IMHO. Worth a try. Stay safe & healthy.

You are so welcome! Makes this video a great success. Thanks for watching.
Pen to paper is the best🤓. And thanks for the shout out! I’m so glad you liked all your choices. Great review❣️

Thanks. It good for all of us to recognize all our efforts. Support the community.
I discovered Birmingham Pen a few months ago and keep going back to order other inks. They behave so well and are just to write with.
Thanks for the review! Birmingham pen company is wonderful.
Thanks for the review! Getting some of that voltaic arc.
Any time!
I LOVE all my Birmingham inks! They're great! Great Pens too :)
Yes they are! Thanks for watching.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing! Tesla coil really looks nice! I agree It deserved a big bottle!

Nice inks and good review, Chris.
I find that the zero of the purple toned inks match the swatches on their site. Love the teal and aqua blues they sell though.
Nice bleus - I gotta try Birmingham Inks 😎
Do you have a inexpensive demonstrator fountain you recommend that would work/pair well with the tesla coil? Thanks

Thanks for letting me know--now I think I'll order that ink! You're a gem!
Where would I buy those cards for the ink samples and what are they called? thanks!
Many places sell - Col-o-ring Ink Testing - www.penchalet.com/pen_accessories/memo_books_notebooks/col-o-ring_ink_testing_book.html
Thank you for this nice review. In the first writing sample Copper Chloride looks somewhat turquoise to me, but in the last writing samples it's a green ink. Is it me, or has the paper such an influence?
I'd call it a green ink. Lighting has as much effect as paper. Thanks for watching.

@@chrisrap52 While you solved the mystery, you created a problem for me: now I want not only the Birmingham ink, but also the Robert Oster Jade....😄

Ok am i going crazy? Im seeing copper chloride ink as blue in the sample card but separately its very green?!
No you are not crazy. There was some ink contamination. It is more green than blue.

Great point! I could use a cloth. The ear buds (shouldn't be used as they are smaller than your elbow) provide consistency in the swab.
