I used painters tape to map out a design. When you are attaching the rope lights to the wall, you gently remove the painters tape as you go. Using the screws is a must since my adhesive, let go and left the lights hanging.

I never thought smart lights would have numbered iterations in their names. 😅 That being said, I think it'd be worth the installation effort if installed in like a restaurant, store or business since these kinds of decorations add some eye candy and overall value to the customer experience.
There is an easy solution to solve the segments from dropping off the wall. WASH YOUR WALL or even better wipe it down with ISopropyl wipes. In fairness Govee should provide them in the box, anyhow. So it is user error on both sides, yours and Govee.
Use the adhesive clips far too many times, you just kept on pulling them off and reposition them. Just keep the design simple as just effective. Mine took 1 minute to put up and not one clip has come detached.

I might try this with some peg board and small tie wraps.
