"Tumi came to switch the volume up"- Tumi was part of a band called "Tumi and the volume" That hello kitty, stogie/Tumi has a song called Hello kitty. "Return of the king, the bar is up" stogie T has an album called "Return of the king"
Hello Kitty is a Stogie T song which often receives criticism due to how different/commercial it is from his typical raw stuff. The Riky being referenced to Riky Rick, they were once cool but had some friction. Back to the City is the name of one of the biggest hip hop festivals in SA
YoungstaCpt verse would be better received if you knew more of the South African culture . On the Cape Flats having no teeth is somewhat a representation of where you are from . We operate mini buses called taxis which “gatjies” collectors of the fare would scream out the window the location of where the taxi is going many of which have no teeth (representing the cape flats struggle so to say ) Good to see SA music getting some coverage

I think context is everything : 1.YoungstaCPT is one of those rappers who want to be a clear representation of where he comes from (doesn't adapt his accent to the american style, speaks on subject matter related to Cape Town-more specifically the colored community- there and etc) 2.When judging his verse I think you need to keep in mind that he was aiming more at painting a picture about where his from rather than giving you "lyrical acrobatics" so to speak. 3. Looking at it from this perspective that verse was brilliant considering that the culture that his from is less commercialized. -He used very basic references to paint a picture of what it means to be a colered person from CPT (gangsterism, rawness, and etc) but still make it look cool. 4. As a result his verse made us embrace the culture that he is from more. I hope these points make sense...

Nasty C was an unkown 17/18 year old with local buzz from 1 song when this dropped. Maybe it was the wrong song to choose because Nasty C was still gonna get better at consistently crafting a commercial single from beat to hook. 2. I appreciate the honesty and I agree with everything you said. You did however miss some things because this song was very referential to specific incidents & everyone's past or, then present situation.
1. Nasty C was an unkown 17/18 year old with local buzz from 1 song when this dropped. He made the beat and came up with the hook in the era when American rappers would just repeat somone's name for the hook "hanna montana" "Versace", or "ass, ass, ass". The mimalist repetitive hook was the wave back then. Not defending it, I never liked it, just giving context. Maybe it was the wrong song to choose because Nasty C was still gonna get better at consistently crafting a commercial single from beat to hook.
2. This is the first verse where Youngsta stopped rapping in an American accent, in favour of his Cape-Coloured accent. This was him embracing his culture & he references the taxi culture in Capetown where it's common to see the conductors hanging out the window. It's also a Capetown thing to see people with no front teeth, some even taking them out on purpose. Both he & Stogie represent their Islamic faith on the track. Stogies says he prays 5 times a day, Youngsta raps in Arabic because there's huge Islamic community in Capetown.
3. The reason Stogie is a goat is because he evolved through so many eras & has managed to stay relevant. He was in a band called Tumi & the Volume (hence the references) from 18/19 years old. The lead single of his 2nd solo album was titled "Hello Kitty" & many fans didn't get it because it was a departure from his more underground sound even though the message was still conscious.
