Shredding blues tribute to Gary Moore and this NUT wants me to play Slayer?

- March 17/2023. I'm digging into this emotional Gary Moore tribute and this nut case interrupts my solo to ask for Slayer or Metallica at 09:45. WTF? First of all, don't interrupt me thinking I'm a jukebox that stops on a dime to play anything you want. Watch, listen, say thanks, shut up, tip, or walk on. 2) Do you walk up to BB KING on a stage and ask him to play Spinal Tap? It's insulting to play a good blues and be asked to play comedic NOISE like Slayer, like what I'm doing isn't good enough for you. Does it look like I'm a guy who plays SLAYER or would ever consider doing this in a public space with an obvious tip bag in front of me? I'm a 61 year old man. Just piss on my leg while you're at it. 3) At least wave a $50 in my face if you want to try this. I’ll still say NO and then you can walk away with your $50 and let me get back to making actual music. Next time I'll say "No slayer, how about cannibal corpse?" I'm smiling politely here, but inside, I'm getting ready to throw up.
It boggles my mind what people are thinking sometimes. Yes, Slayer is No.1 on the list of covers that work really well in public. I play them all day! People love it! If I had a nickel for every time someone asked for Slayer, I'd have one nickel. Why can't people be happy with the good music I'm already playing? I get people getting upset with me when I play the mellowest of Sade songs. Playing obscure thrash in a busy and noisy transit hub is just inviting violence and guaranteeing zero tips. Even Megadeth, who are far more popular, would not get a reaction. The only slightly heavy band I could get away with would be AC DC. They at least would be recognized. I wonder how many people walked up to Gary Moore/bb king/SRV in the middle of an emotional solo and asked them to play Slayer? It’s not only an insult, it’s fucking RUDE. It's like saying "Can you reduce your abilities as a musician about 34 levels and just make NOISE?"

thanks! most people are completely tuned out from their surroundings. They wear earbuds or they’re staring at their phone. I think most people don’t even know what a guitar solo is anymore. It’s like something from the dinosaur age.

Ive been to many concerts that were not metal and that one person who yells "SLAYER" will always get the crowd going.

But that's done as a joke. That's why people laugh. Like making Spinal Tap references. Slayer is the Spinal Tap of that genre. Busking is not the place for speed metal, death metal, thrash, etc. Maybe around bars at 1 am when everyone is drunk and 18, it might work, but that's not my crowd. People here are already pissed off when I play mellow Sade. Can't imagine the violence I'd face getting aggressive. Heaviest in this area might be AC DC. At least that gets recognized.

Well, here you have a slayer fan who is not only rudely interrupting my emotional solo, but not even waving a $50 in my face as a tip incentive. she obviously does not appreciate what I’m playing, otherwise she’d say “Nice playing!” or would watch without interrupting me. people who appreciate don’t interrupt for completely 180 degree opposite requests.

Hi Andy from Australia how long was Gary in Thin Lizzy before he went solo? Great playing by the way
he was in the band for a few months in 1974. then again for less than a year in 1979. from 1976-1978 he was in fusion/prog band colosseum 2. great band.
@@shatnershairpiece I read that he was in a another band with Phil called Skid Row also
that would have been around 1970-1972. Phil was not in the band even long enough to do one album. skid row released two albums. you can find videos of them on TH-cam. interesting thing about Phil is that Richie Blackmore tried to get him into deep purple, but he decided it wouldn’t work because he was not good enough of a bass player at that point.

yeah JP is at least melodic and has hooks. I tried to listen to slayer recently and I just broke out laughing. like having someone scream in your face while hitting you with a mallet. It’s like comedy to me. even as guitar player I find no redeeming merit in it at all. It’s not music to me. It’s like something an AI would make. it ranks up there with rap and new country as pure torture. at least Metallica had a decent singer.
