Damn, so brutally honest as usual. Thank you for telling it like it is It'sAGundam. I appreciate you. I remember playing F3 and feeling disappointed... I remember playing oblivion and feeling majorly disappointed. . . I bought the elder scrolls onliine and hated myself after finishing the long update only to dislike everything I saw. Bethesda has not made content well since Morrowind and that game had nearly no voices, hellish loading screens, 2000 graphics and as always with Bethesda was even then still unfinished feeling. (only one vampire clan worth joining) The modders have saved Bethesda so much effort over the years I think that it has negatively effected how they work on projects. (like when you do the homework for your kids) They can just make crap and expect the community to put food coloring on it and eat it. If they took this engine and made a new one to run their games on for the next 10 years for this game then I may have paid for it in advance. .. but I saw the preview and 90% of it was things I saw in f4 & we should all remind ourselves of all those bugs we witnessed that have never been fixed... Bugthesda lost a butt ton of their loyalist fanbase with this blunder. May they suffer the Julius Caesar experience.
It's funny, I was one of the guys on the other side. Some guy was trying to do his twitch intro but everyone else making a character spent the first 10 minutes giving the guy crap while he was trying to not look and sound special to his audience. 10/10 just for that experience alone.
This is why I hate games that default to open mic. I'm never really in that position, but I've been on the other side where people are talking, doing intros, talking to other people, etc. It's very confusing and annoying. Voice communication should always default to push to talk. Have the option for open mic and none. Push to talk is the perfect middle ground. Also, my reaction would have literally been the same as Peon. Just awkwardly exit the game and feel embarrassed for a while even though it wasn't my fault. lol
I am really glad you did this, it’s good to see a fresh take on fallout from someone who isn’t a fan of the series. Take away the nostalgia and a lot of the issues come to the fore. Great vid!
AI issues, graphics and shooting mechanics are areas that fallout vets tend to overlook in my opinion. Not all but many of the most ardent supporters of 76 seem to be using the old status quo excuse. That’s all I meant
Actually, the issues are more apparent for those who are super familiar with the series; we recognise everything that has been gutted out of this game.
The only good news about 76 really is that because it is multiplayer it's very likely that there will be many updates to fix issues, add content, and so on. The other games are usually just released and done with, except for the release of new expansions. Honestly, as it is, the game looks like something I'd gladly play quite a bit of if I didn't have to pay for it. For me to justify paying for it, it needs to be polished a bit more is all, which is very likely before release.

There are no pc controls, There are console controls that have been bound to a weird nonsensical keyboard layout. This is Fallout 4 with what little purpose that had stripped out of it, as a survival game alone there are a multitude of games that do everything Fallout 76 does a lot better, as far as a Fallout game, The two original titles are old turn based combat PC games which were about exploring the wasteland to save your friends from a catastrophe, there were a lot of choices that impacted the world you explored, you could make a character that couldn't fight and still complete the game just through being diplomatic. Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first attempt after they "acquired" the rights to the franchise (took the original creators to court and made a lot of claims with better lawyers and more money than the little company) and it got a lot of good rep, There was enough of the original games combined with a 3d world that Fallout fans had been hearing was to be developed for a long time, sure they added a lot that fans of the Elder scrolls series were familiar with, yet It was a good start, a good basis to build on, character choice which led to good replay value (different choices, different outcomes, different game play) Fallout 4 came around and well, if anyone thinks that the reason Fallout 76 won't be on steam is for "player experience" They are sadly mistaken, Steam offers a refund policy which refunded a lot of peoples Fallout 4 purchases, I mean it launched where people you needed to speak to in order to continue a quest would attack you if you were wearing power armour, One of the big hyped up parts of the new game. You had three dialogue choices Convo goes "Hey strange man I've never met before will you fight of a big gang of radiers by yourself and save these 6 people?" "Well I could do but I'm looking for my son, he was kidnapped while I was frozen in a vault, I'm 200 years old" "So like a ghoul then, anywqay about those raiders" and your choices then were 1. Yes 2. No (but actually yes) 3. sarcastic (but actually yes) and the lines were written by someone who has no idea what sarcasm actually means. New Vegas was made by a guy who had original input into the originals, so that felt more like Fallout than any of them, yet it was the last hash of an old engine, so even now feels dated. You say you're going to wait for Fallout 5, If it continues on it's downward trajectory then I wouldn't bother, Seriously. The first two old turn based games could be played with a 1mb installation and ran from the CD they are old and most folk these days would probably not like the look and game mechanics, yet for actual story and exploration and world altering events, offer the most satisfying experience still.

From the looks of it he didn't bother to even try and pay attention to the tutorial area? Then afterwards just went on to complain about everything. It's like he started out thinking negatively so he just stayed that way. I'm not saying the game is great, nor am I defending it. I'm saying that his opinion doesn't really seem that unbiased. It looks like the opinion of someone that doesn't understand games nor wants to take the time to understand. @@bibb8650 That experience doesn't mean he can't have an off day. To me, it seems right from the start he's in a fairly bad mood because of the awkward moment when he started. He doesn't seem to pay attention to the game or it's tutorial, but continues on. Then when he can't handle even aiming a gun he blames the game for being clunky. Not once did he even try to use VATS which is a very basic mechanic that's on all Fallout games and the game does show it to you. He also used a pistol most of the time and says it doesn't feel like it has much of an impact... It's a pistol so I'm not sure what he expected there. The other mechanics he tried, like building, he did a tiny bit of and the second he ran into a problem he gave up and complained about it.
For a real representation of a Fallout game - he should play Fallout 1 and/or 2. Those were real Fallout games, not this Bethesda open world bug fests we've been getting for awhile now. Trying to put in clunky shooting mechanics (and still having shitty 3rd person viewpoints) hasn't helped. VATS is the only system I think they do well and even that isn't that great to begin with.
As you noticed it's a "multiplayer game" but everyone is just playing totally alone by themselves for the most part. theres no random group up interaction only pre-made. I think you would REALLY like fallout New Vegas! the world is so immersive and interesting. Especially since you can add on some of the best mods around on PC and really up the experience. PLEASE I beg you give it a try its one of the greatest RPG games imo.
In all honestly dude this is by far the worst Fallout game to get you into Fallout, if you are still interested to play a Fallout game I suggest you start with Fallout New Vegas it is by far the best Fallout game of the modern era Fallout games, and don't worry to much about not getting the story they aren't really connected.

I don't think having npc's in the game would be that confusing. If you made an icon over their head you wouldn't have that much problem with who is a player and who is an npc. The game is so empty and lifeless without npc's. I feel that was a very bad decision for Bethesda.
The reason for not having NPCs is to have player interaction. They want player trading to be the most important part of the game, which I do agree with them. Adding NPCs mostly is a distraction. However, they could have easily done it in a style like Conan Exiles where there are some NPCs, but none impact the economy or anything in any way. I like the idea though that the world is purely populated with players. Makes it more authentic in my opinion.
Eventide Yeah, and also 10x more empty and boring. Interaction between players is limited at best, and every encounter pretty much boils down to «we shoot eachother or we walk away». If that’s engaging gameplay to you then fuck man, I really don’t know what to say.

@@keontaewilliams5145 Not really. Well, not to the degree they want and talked about. The moment you add in NPCs, on the assumption that they can trade, you severely limit player interaction. Suddenly player interaction becomes more of just selling the best of the best than actually trading materials and such. Also, as I mentioned (in the same reply), they could have gone for a Conan Exiles sort of NPC where groups of them are hostile and some are friendly but don't impact the player base in any way. Literally the only thing you can do with NPCs on there is learn new religions and possibly craft a new item that's mostly cosmetic. Either way you look at it though NPCs are very inorganic. They're literally Non-Player Character.. they're AI that usually just stand there all day or follow a very strict schedule. The only reason Peon really said the game feels lonely is because the people that are playing the beta right now aren't playing to play with other people... most are making videos or doing a livestream. They're not actually interacting with players since there's no need. That need will only be seen once the game launches and people start actually playing aside from a small group. TL;DR: Don't take one snippet of a comment then reply back. It's like you read that sentence then stopped and didn't care to read the rest.
Bethesda's love come from PC and the modders that spend hours of their time making content for their game and fixing the developer's bugs. Fallout 76 does away with that, and shows the glaring problems with Bethesda's game development.
I think people overestimate the pc and modding community, morrowind on xbox made them tons of cash and since then they've been console first my dude. Even when their creation kit comes out its been later and later with each new game.

western style games always reminds me of red dead redemption and nothing would top it, maybe because i played it before that garbage fnv. first impression of fnv was I thought it's a dlc of fo3 and when it was first release it's lacking and crashing. Jin- The first 2 games is also worth a try, cos they are awesome and it introduces you to the basic and acurate Fallout lore. Bethesda doesn't know the lore and changes it how the please without and concent for the hardcore fans of the franchise.
Reminder that Bethesda is still using the garbage gamebryo engine that they've been using forever. They need to change so badly. This engine is awful and has been awful for many years.
It's a "upgraded" version of the engine used at least since oblivion (2006) but others have told me the base of the engine has origins going back to 1995
@@sammysalgado98 the creation engine uses the gamebryo engine as its base well its more of what you said an "upgrade", its still pretty shitty and bethesda should have just created a whole new one for fo4 and 76 seeing as they said that they were developing 4 for years yet still use a clunky early 2000 engine for a 2015 game and beyond. People have complained about it for years. And people have continued to buy their games for years. There is no incentive for them to make a new engine.
First off: I love that Jim's pronounciation of "Tripple Ayyy" and "live services" is catching on. Second: Yeah, Fallout 76 is absolutely *not* representative of the series. Fallout 3 and 4 are both rather different from 1, 2 and New Vegas so there is quite some variation in what the series does, but especially the original games and New Vegas are incredibly interesting games that focus on exploring the post-apocalyptic setting and how people might act in it. It's a setting where all societal rules have been destroyed by, well, the end of the world so anything goes and the narrative allows you to explore that.They are very much dated now but the great thing about story focused games is that story doesn't necessarily age and the crowd that's interested in this kind of game can generally deal with outdated gameplay. So if you have any interest in seeing what the Fallout series can do i'd definitely recommend playing Fallout New Vegas or watch some story summaries or playthroughs on TH-cam. If you are not at all interested in narrative then I hope I managed to get the message across that: no, Fallout 76 is not representative of the series and the reason why the series is so beloved is because it does a certain thing really well in a way and setting that no other game or series has done.
I couldn't agree more with the holotapes. As I'm there in discord with my buddies playing Fallout76 and they're talking and we're in combat. I have a holotape just droning on and on. I mentioned this somewhere else, but we were just exploring and i went into a diner and I found like three or four holotapes by bodies inside and I had to sit there thinking... does Bethesda expect me to listen to all of these just to know what happened here or who these people were? I love Fallout lore, but just from one place I ended up with three or so holotapes. Where as finding them occasionally in the other games by some dead bodies was exciting to find out what happened. After playing just a few hours yesterday and I will play more today... I really just don't care about the holotapes. Also that boil the water quest was so fucking boring that it ended up just being me and one other friend still going until the last thirty minutes of the beta and I couldn't do it. I was getting bored and yawning so much and basically falling asleep that I stopped playing before 9pm.
@Fleer Ultra This is exactly what I hate about FO4. I went to explore every inch of the map in FO4 and most of what I found was buildings with lot of enemies, some computers to read the story and a chest in the end of each location containing Loot. Hope some New Vegas type of exploring the world comes back in some form...
Doggo Memer I don’t think you understand this is a beta. They announced on the main menu expect performance and stability issues. Plus this game is only fun speaking to other players and making friends, like I did. He’s criticising a beta early access.
Well, it isn't really beta since the game will release the 14th of november and they can't fix all of the issues the game has in such a short amount of time.

I think you forget that at release the consensus was that New Vegas did very little to differentiate itself from Fallout 3 and was considered expensive DLC
@@cromwelltheconqueror3430 I don't. Fallout NV if it comes to story (also factions, survival mode etc.) was better, more solid game. Despite how you want to call it, Fallout NV wins the comparison. Deep below F:NV and F3 is F4. And I believe Obsidian still has the potential to do it.

So, for $20 you can pick up Fallout: New Vegas and all the associated DLCs on Steam, and you can get Fallout 4 (the 2015 release that most of the assets used in this game are based on but with much more fluid, dynamic graphics, missions, and gunplay) with all DLCs for about $40 last I checked. New Vegas is widely considered to the be the best Fallout game ever made, as well as one of the best games ever produced period, but it does look very dated since it uses the same engine used in Fallout 3 (2008) and the gunplay and AI make baby Jesus cry. Fallout 4 is better in terms of graphics, size, and shooting mechanics, but has a weaker story. I have almost 1600 hours in Fallout 4 and 400 in New Vegas and regret nothing. Worth a look, if nothing else. Edit: I just realized...for the price of one copy of 76, which appears to be more and more like a disaster, you can get two games that were both voted Game of the Year with engaging storylines and hours of entertainment value.
@Jusey1 What? Obsidian is good at making Open World games. They just used a crappy engine and had a very strict deadline. And Bethesda game studios is only good at making good open world TES games. Their Fallout games are full of lore inconsistencies and retcons that make no sense at all. There's a reason why NV is priased more than 3 or 4 by people who liked the older games.

It is so interesting to see a review from someone who has never played the previous games. and yes all that you've said is true, Fallout 76 is a cash grab, especially has one of the biggest things that people play these games for is being locked out... Mods, Modding Fallout made the game carry on being fresh and new and Bethesda are locking that out, probably waiting until their failed creation club can be forced down peoples throats, charging for mods. If you want a real Fallout experience, Fallout New Vegas is the one to try. Perfect story fantastic replay value, couldnt rate it higher. Fallout 3 was good and Fallout 4 was Ok. but 76, would be a terrible start into the franchise.
Thanks for the view point. It was nice to have someone who was unfamiliar with the series and its quirks evaluate the game. Fallout 4 had many similar issues and I was concerned about the engine holding up in multiplayer. With the previous entries I was more than willing to overlook the issues because of the amazing worlds and stories but this entry seems to currently lack most of that with the same ageing issues.
Also the previous fallout games are good. Fallout 3, Vegas, and 4. Although Vegas is unstable on modern PCs unfortunately. A lot of people diss 4 but I like it.

You're right about the "Beta" thing. It used to mean something, heck, it still does in any other department except gaming. When you release a Beta you DON'T have a scheduled release, because you don't know how long it will take you to fix and respond to the feedback. You may have an "estimated release date", but not be 100% sure. I guess it was also a way for them to test the servers, seeing how it's a multiplayer game.
And to insult to intelligence, in Australia they have a 'basic' price of $99.00, or ten percent higher than any other top tier games. An utter embarrassment and expect people to pay the highest price for any basic game price this year. FFS!
What pisses me off, as a Fallout fan, is that this game is for basically no one. For fans, the fact there's no NPCs, no proper quests with stories behind them, and feels completly and utterly empty even with people running around, and the casual fan will be turned off by extremely low amount of content, awful shooting, crap performance, Bethesda please explain who is this game for? Only reason your trailer was memed into oblivion and back was because of the song you picked for it, every actual fan of the franchise shook their head in disgust at what the actual game was. 4 was like a turd, but an understandable one, you were trying out new dialogue mechanics, you improved some areas of the game, and others stayed behind for it, and instead of doing the brilliant thing of asking Obsidian Entertainment to do another game for you again, you decide to cry over the fact their game's metacritic score was not up to your standard despite the fact MOST OF THE ISSUES PEOPLE HAD WITH IT WAS TECHNICAL ONES BECAUSE OF YOUR SHIT 2006 ENGINE THAT YOU STILL USE TO THIS DAY AND THE FACT YOU BARELY GAVE THEM ANY TIME TO WORK ON IT. You're just another person joining the stupid hate bandwagon before you even try something. I'm playing this game with my friends, got it on the black friday sale and it's actually amazing. There's a TON of story in the game, this guy just literally played fallout how it's not really intended. You can't just run around the world not giving a fuck and then say there's no quest or story. There are quests all the time, from the very beginning. As for the story, the only thing that changed is how it's delivered to you, as a spoiler, one of the early quests is to essentially sign up for the responder forces to help survivors... except there isn't any, so you go into different terminals, sign yourself up (just a button, not some tedious process), follow voice tapes left by the recruiter, and then eventually get to her corpse, where you get to see how she looked like before she died. You can find lots of things like notes, wills, testaments, biographies, ID cards, and then of course the holotapes which I find actually fun to listen to. You're just hating because you expected this game to be the same as the others, essentially, Fallout 5. But they're already making that, so either wait or stop spreading unnecessary negativity when you haven't even tried the game.

Also, sorry, but I've seen hours of livestreams of 76 just to understand exactly what the fuck you do in it, and those aren't RPG quests, those are MMORPG quests. Go here, collect x, go there, kill y, excuse me is this Fallout or WoW? Where's the moral dillemas, where is the human drama. Last point: If this game existed as it's own IP i'd be like "Okay, whatever" but tagging the Fallout brand to it is just as disrespectful to what a RPG is supposed to be as Fallout BoS was back in the ps2. Also no, I did not want Fallout 5, I wanted a second take by Obsidian Entertainment since New Vegas was the high point of the series due to their understanding of what Fallout is given how some writers who worked on that also worked on the original 2 games. It's still there for you to see. You can see what actually happened. Not just "humanity is struggling" forever, but rather "humanity suffered and this was the result".
Literally the only difference is that instead of having someone stand there and say "We're slowly dying", you have a corpse, an environmental aftermath AND them telling you about their struggles before they died. But of course "it's on a tape so it's boring!". If you don't want to read notes randomly found in houses, tables etc then you clearly didn't care that much for an apocalyptic story, otherwise you would read it and enjoy it. You should take up professional whining as a job.

There's a difference between a sale and a price drop, price drop is directly related to game sales, the less the game sells, the less demand there is for it, therefore it's value is inhenrently lower, so the publisher makes the conscious decision to drop the price to "seduce" potential costumers. Games either do not sell cus of: A. bad marketing (lets face it, country roads was memed to hell, 76 was marketed well) or B. No market for it (as in literally no one asked for it, considering people have asked for another fallout entry to fix issues found in 4 this also does not seem to be the case) or C. quality. Idk bro, you tell me how basic economics do not show the quality of a product. 2. You can shit on a game if you've never played it (at least in my opinion) if, and only if: you're actively envolved in the community (i.e. Fallout youtube channels, reddit, forums, etc), know what the core of the series are about (given how I've played 1,2,tactics,NV,and 4 to hell and back I'd say I have a firm grasp on what the overall series is about) and finally but not least, have watched extensive hours of gameplay, which I have. Both unfiltered (unedited) and filtered. I've seen this "storytelling" you've been speaking of and it does not hold a candle to neither 3 nor NV, and for the most part not even to 4. Notes and dead corpses is not story telling, that's world building, two different concepts one ought to learn to create a fictionial universe. World building elements are to generate an overall vibe of "the land" to convey the type of emotions you ought to feel, story telling however is the actual meat and potatoes of the story it self, when you are doing "quests" for retards from years ago you are not helping towards building an actual introduction, middle and ending, basic shit in any story my dude, they teach that in 7th grade, keep up will ya. 3. wow dude. as i watch this video on 2020, i am genuinely impressed how you had foreseen the release state of the game and following outrage even before game released. i recently found your channel and i have been watching your past content for several days now. very good content. thank you...
couldn't be happier with the game right now its just been constant action. Running on a gtx 1080/i7 8086k no lag or issues at all on max graphics. You spawn into the game with a vast world in front of you with no idea what you might encounter. I was lucky enough to meet a group out in the wastleland and we ended up killing almost every world boss except scorchbeast because well...radiation hurts. Took over 7-8 workstations and had them fully powered gaining resources across the entire map. Found full sets of power armour and managed to score almost 20 power cores each, hidden guns, got into PVP wars all within an 8 hour session. This game was never a dull moment and is an absolute mysterious joy to uncover. My only qualm with it right now is storage space...i had to built insane amounts of generators and turrets to keep my resources low enough to where i wasn't constantly over-encumbered. While i understand Bethesda has some issues to work on especially with weird clipping, i cant say i've had one game breaking issue or concern that would shy me away from this game.
This game is still a mixed bag for me.On one hand, sometimes I really feel immersed in the world and am enjoying the quest that I'm on. On the other, I'm bored sometimes because it feels so empty and player interaction is so useless. PvP is strict too so there's no tension at all, _in a survival game_ . I have a feeling this game will flop. They tried to cater to 2 different markets and didn't excel in either of them.

fallout 4 was FULL of bugs on release. same with skyrim overall bethesda are doing quite terrible in the "Quality" department. Man I had played for like 10 hours or so before I realized you have to CLICK ON RECIPES/PLANS in the misc items menu order to learn them! I guess they did that so you can trade plans you find between other players in case you find something you DONT want to learn?

I don't think this engine is fit for a multiplayer game x_x Unless they somehow allow mods ;o I can't imagine playing a Bethesda game without mods, haha. Another thing to mention about Frame rate is that the loading times are also affected by the frame rate. So if you have 30 FPS, your game will load for longer, if you uncap the FPS and go higher than 60, the world will collapse from the bugs and broken physics XD I had to install a mod to unlock FPS cap during loading screens on Fallout 4! haha.
I feel like 76 was absolutely a wasted opportunity as it was, i think you should do an updated game guide. Ive had a completely different and better experience compared to when i first play a couple years ago to now. Like a no mans sky come back almost

it is empty 76 is fallout without all the cool things and quests in the map. i would recommend any of the fallout games even the top down ones before 76
76 for sure has these. Vlad and Mia, two Mr Handys stuck in a loop of asking and answering each others questions (like the viral looping Siri, Alexa and Google home video). My character is also in the middle of 'joining' the order of mysteries (that resided in a manor and a none vault tec vault that resides under it), a really cool quest that you start when you happen to come across a body of one of the members. Things like this makes a Fallout title, I don't see how its 'empty' unless you've never played it?
In fallout lore, not everyone was (un)lucky enough to be allowed into vaults, many just lived on despite the radiation, so introducing proper NPCs wouldn't have been out of character. In fact every other fallout game is heavily linked with the presence of NPCs
I'm more interested in this game as a survival game, than a Fallout game. It will still be fun with all the lore that is in it though. And I could still just go play Fallout 1, 2, 3, 4, and NV. I think it is cool that Bethesda is trying something different. I'm sure that the next fallout will be more traditional.
Oh naive peon lol. All of the fallout games have been clunky shit for their time. With a good set of main and side story quests these worlds can be brought to life pretty well in a single player setting, but I'm honestly surprised they even attempted this game with their track record.

I had a much difference performance experience. I have what I would consider middle of the road pc anymore, with a gtx 1070. I was getting 80+ and well over 100 frames most of the time. I turned of vsync, removing the limiter and was able to get 144+ consistently. This is with high/ultra on everything except shadows, which I put at low. Changing to fullscreen did make a giant difference for me though, was really bad before that.

The shooting aspect is bad in the beginning of the game because you haven't leveled up your Perception stat... which dictates how well you can aim and handle your guns... so the bad shooting is intentional. To someone who is new to the game franchise this is not known, but for those of us who have played Fallout for a long time we already know this... Honestly my only complaint with this game is the poor framerate and lag issues. Everything else is a typical fallout game, which isn't saying much since they really ought to try new things instead of rebuilding the same game over and over. What we're really paying money for is just more artwork and more writing, but at the end of the day Fallout is meant to be a sandbox experience where you as a player feel like you have the freedom to choose what you want to do, and THAT is something that was in fact quite successful in Fallout 76. If they can fix the performance issues, this game is turning out to be a great Fallout game to be honest.
the shooting aspect has never really been good from the beginning. the animations are slow and heavy, and the lackluster ragdoll physics and complete lack of tactics from enemies make fighting feel mostly unsatisfying. although bloody mess tends to make things a bit more interesting.

I remember playing oblivion and feeling majorly disappointed. . . I bought the elder scrolls onliine and hated myself after finishing the long update only to dislike everything I saw. Bethesda has not made content well since Morrowind and that game had nearly no voices, hellish loading screens, 2000 graphics and as always with Bethesda was even then still unfinished feeling. (only one vampire clan worth joining) The modders have saved Bethesda so much effort over the years I think that it has negatively effected how they work on projects. (like when you do the homework for your kids) They can just make crap and expect the community to put food coloring on it and eat it. If they took this engine and made a new one to run their games on for the next 10 years for this game then I may have paid for it in advance. .. but I saw the preview and 90% of it was things I saw in f4 & we should all remind ourselves of all those bugs we witnessed that have never been fixed... Bugthesda lost a butt ton of their loyalist fanbase with this blunder. May they suffer the Julius Caesar experience.

It's funny, I was one of the guys on the other side. Some guy was trying to do his twitch intro but everyone else making a character spent the first 10 minutes giving the guy crap while he was trying to not look and sound special to his audience. 10/10 just for that experience alone.
This is why I hate games that default to open mic. I'm never really in that position, but I've been on the other side where people are talking, doing intros, talking to other people, etc. It's very confusing and annoying. Voice communication should always default to push to talk. Have the option for open mic and none. Push to talk is the perfect middle ground. Also, my reaction would have literally been the same as Peon. Just awkwardly exit the game and feel embarrassed for a while even though it wasn't my fault. lol

AI issues, graphics and shooting mechanics are areas that fallout vets tend to overlook in my opinion. Not all but many of the most ardent supporters of 76 seem to be using the old status quo excuse. That’s all I meant

Actually, the issues are more apparent for those who are super familiar with the series; we recognise everything that has been gutted out of this game.
The only good news about 76 really is that because it is multiplayer it's very likely that there will be many updates to fix issues, add content, and so on. The other games are usually just released and done with, except for the release of new expansions. Honestly, as it is, the game looks like something I'd gladly play quite a bit of if I didn't have to pay for it. For me to justify paying for it, it needs to be polished a bit more is all, which is very likely before release.

There are no pc controls, There are console controls that have been bound to a weird nonsensical keyboard layout. This is Fallout 4 with what little purpose that had stripped out of it, as a survival game alone there are a multitude of games that do everything Fallout 76 does a lot better, as far as a Fallout game, The two original titles are old turn based combat PC games which were about exploring the wasteland to save your friends from a catastrophe, there were a lot of choices that impacted the world you explored, you could make a character that couldn't fight and still complete the game just through being diplomatic.
Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first attempt after they "acquired" the rights to the franchise (took the original creators to court and made a lot of claims with better lawyers and more money than the little company) and it got a lot of good rep, There was enough of the original games combined with a 3d world that Fallout fans had been hearing was to be developed for a long time, sure they added a lot that fans of the Elder scrolls series were familiar with, yet It was a good start, a good basis to build on, character choice which led to good replay value (different choices, different outcomes, different game play)
Fallout 4 came around and well, if anyone thinks that the reason Fallout 76 won't be on steam is for "player experience" They are sadly mistaken, Steam offers a refund policy which refunded a lot of peoples Fallout 4 purchases, I mean it launched where people you needed to speak to in order to continue a quest would attack you if you were wearing power armour, One of the big hyped up parts of the new game.
You had three dialogue choices Convo goes "Hey strange man I've never met before will you fight of a big gang of radiers by yourself and save these 6 people?" "Well I could do but I'm looking for my son, he was kidnapped while I was frozen in a vault, I'm 200 years old" "So like a ghoul then, anywqay about those raiders" and your choices then were 1. Yes 2. No (but actually yes) 3. sarcastic (but actually yes) and the lines were written by someone who has no idea what sarcasm actually means.
New Vegas was made by a guy who had original input into the originals, so that felt more like Fallout than any of them, yet it was the last hash of an old engine, so even now feels dated.
You say you're going to wait for Fallout 5, If it continues on it's downward trajectory then I wouldn't bother, Seriously. The first two old turn based games could be played with a 1mb installation and ran from the CD they are old and most folk these days would probably not like the look and game mechanics, yet for actual story and exploration and world altering events, offer the most satisfying experience still.

@@bibb8650 That experience doesn't mean he can't have an off day. To me, it seems right from the start he's in a fairly bad mood because of the awkward moment when he started. He doesn't seem to pay attention to the game or it's tutorial, but continues on. Then when he can't handle even aiming a gun he blames the game for being clunky. Not once did he even try to use VATS which is a very basic mechanic that's on all Fallout games and the game does show it to you. He also used a pistol most of the time and says it doesn't feel like it has much of an impact... It's a pistol so I'm not sure what he expected there. The other mechanics he tried, like building, he did a tiny bit of and the second he ran into a problem he gave up and complained about it.

For a real representation of a Fallout game - he should play Fallout 1 and/or 2. Those were real Fallout games, not this Bethesda open world bug fests we've been getting for awhile now. Trying to put in clunky shooting mechanics (and still having shitty 3rd person viewpoints) hasn't helped. VATS is the only system I think they do well and even that isn't that great to begin with.
As you noticed it's a "multiplayer game" but everyone is just playing totally alone by themselves for the most part. theres no random group up interaction only pre-made. I think you would REALLY like fallout New Vegas! the world is so immersive and interesting. Especially since you can add on some of the best mods around on PC and really up the experience. PLEASE I beg you give it a try its one of the greatest RPG games imo.

In all honestly dude this is by far the worst Fallout game to get you into Fallout, if you are still interested to play a Fallout game I suggest you start with Fallout New Vegas it is by far the best Fallout game of the modern era Fallout games, and don't worry to much about not getting the story they aren't really connected.

I don't think having npc's in the game would be that confusing. If you made an icon over their head you wouldn't have that much problem with who is a player and who is an npc. The game is so empty and lifeless without npc's. I feel that was a very bad decision for Bethesda.
Fallout series was a bad decision...
The reason for not having NPCs is to have player interaction. They want player trading to be the most important part of the game, which I do agree with them. Adding NPCs mostly is a distraction. However, they could have easily done it in a style like Conan Exiles where there are some NPCs, but none impact the economy or anything in any way. I like the idea though that the world is purely populated with players. Makes it more authentic in my opinion.

@@keontaewilliams5145 Not really. Well, not to the degree they want and talked about. The moment you add in NPCs, on the assumption that they can trade, you severely limit player interaction. Suddenly player interaction becomes more of just selling the best of the best than actually trading materials and such. Also, as I mentioned (in the same reply), they could have gone for a Conan Exiles sort of NPC where groups of them are hostile and some are friendly but don't impact the player base in any way. Literally the only thing you can do with NPCs on there is learn new religions and possibly craft a new item that's mostly cosmetic. Either way you look at it though NPCs are very inorganic. They're literally Non-Player Character.. they're AI that usually just stand there all day or follow a very strict schedule. The only reason Peon really said the game feels lonely is because the people that are playing the beta right now aren't playing to play with other people... most are making videos or doing a livestream. They're not actually interacting with players since there's no need. That need will only be seen once the game launches and people start actually playing aside from a small group.
TL;DR: Don't take one snippet of a comment then reply back. It's like you read that sentence then stopped and didn't care to read the rest.
Bethesda's love come from PC and the modders that spend hours of their time making content for their game and fixing the developer's bugs. Fallout 76 does away with that, and shows the glaring problems with Bethesda's game development.
I think people overestimate the pc and modding community, morrowind on xbox made them tons of cash and since then they've been console first my dude. Even when their creation kit comes out its been later and later with each new game.

Reminder that Bethesda is still using the garbage gamebryo engine that they've been using forever. They need to change so badly. This engine is awful and has been awful for many years.
It's a "upgraded" version of the engine used at least since oblivion (2006) but others have told me the base of the engine has origins going back to 1995

First off: I love that Jim's pronounciation of "Tripple Ayyy" and "live services" is catching on.
Second: Yeah, Fallout 76 is absolutely *not* representative of the series. Fallout 3 and 4 are both rather different from 1, 2 and New Vegas so there is quite some variation in what the series does, but especially the original games and New Vegas are incredibly interesting games that focus on exploring the post-apocalyptic setting and how people might act in it. It's a setting where all societal rules have been destroyed by, well, the end of the world so anything goes and the narrative allows you to explore that.They are very much dated now but the great thing about story focused games is that story doesn't necessarily age and the crowd that's interested in this kind of game can generally deal with outdated gameplay.
So if you have any interest in seeing what the Fallout series can do i'd definitely recommend playing Fallout New Vegas or watch some story summaries or playthroughs on TH-cam. If you are not at all interested in narrative then I hope I managed to get the message across that: no, Fallout 76 is not representative of the series and the reason why the series is so beloved is because it does a certain thing really well in a way and setting that no other game or series has done.

I couldn't agree more with the holotapes. As I'm there in discord with my buddies playing Fallout76 and they're talking and we're in combat. I have a holotape just droning on and on. I mentioned this somewhere else, but we were just exploring and i went into a diner and I found like three or four holotapes by bodies inside and I had to sit there thinking... does Bethesda expect me to listen to all of these just to know what happened here or who these people were? I love Fallout lore, but just from one place I ended up with three or so holotapes. Where as finding them occasionally in the other games by some dead bodies was exciting to find out what happened. After playing just a few hours yesterday and I will play more today... I really just don't care about the holotapes. Also that boil the water quest was so fucking boring that it ended up just being me and one other friend still going until the last thirty minutes of the beta and I couldn't do it. I was getting bored and yawning so much and basically falling asleep that I stopped playing before 9pm.
@Fleer Ultra This is exactly what I hate about FO4. I went to explore every inch of the map in FO4 and most of what I found was buildings with lot of enemies, some computers to read the story and a chest in the end of each location containing Loot.
Hope some New Vegas type of exploring the world comes back in some form...

So, for $20 you can pick up Fallout: New Vegas and all the associated DLCs on Steam, and you can get Fallout 4 (the 2015 release that most of the assets used in this game are based on but with much more fluid, dynamic graphics, missions, and gunplay) with all DLCs for about $40 last I checked. New Vegas is widely considered to the be the best Fallout game ever made, as well as one of the best games ever produced period, but it does look very dated since it uses the same engine used in Fallout 3 (2008) and the gunplay and AI make baby Jesus cry. Fallout 4 is better in terms of graphics, size, and shooting mechanics, but has a weaker story. I have almost 1600 hours in Fallout 4 and 400 in New Vegas and regret nothing. Worth a look, if nothing else.
Edit: I just realized...for the price of one copy of 76, which appears to be more and more like a disaster, you can get two games that were both voted Game of the Year with engaging storylines and hours of entertainment value.

@Jusey1 What? Obsidian is good at making Open World games. They just used a crappy engine and had a very strict deadline. And Bethesda game studios is only good at making good open world TES games. Their Fallout games are full of lore inconsistencies and retcons that make no sense at all. There's a reason why NV is priased more than 3 or 4 by people who liked the older games.

Modding Fallout made the game carry on being fresh and new and Bethesda are locking that out, probably waiting until their failed creation club can be forced down peoples throats, charging for mods.
If you want a real Fallout experience, Fallout New Vegas is the one to try. Perfect story fantastic replay value, couldnt rate it higher. Fallout 3 was good and Fallout 4 was Ok. but 76, would be a terrible start into the franchise.

Thanks for the view point. It was nice to have someone who was unfamiliar with the series and its quirks evaluate the game. Fallout 4 had many similar issues and I was concerned about the engine holding up in multiplayer. With the previous entries I was more than willing to overlook the issues because of the amazing worlds and stories but this entry seems to currently lack most of that with the same ageing issues.
Also the previous fallout games are good. Fallout 3, Vegas, and 4. Although Vegas is unstable on modern PCs unfortunately. A lot of people diss 4 but I like it.

You're right about the "Beta" thing. It used to mean something, heck, it still does in any other department except gaming. When you release a Beta you DON'T have a scheduled release, because you don't know how long it will take you to fix and respond to the feedback. You may have an "estimated release date", but not be 100% sure. I guess it was also a way for them to test the servers, seeing how it's a multiplayer game.
And to insult to intelligence, in Australia they have a 'basic' price of $99.00, or ten percent higher than any other top tier games.

What pisses me off, as a Fallout fan, is that this game is for basically no one. For fans, the fact there's no NPCs, no proper quests with stories behind them, and feels completly and utterly empty even with people running around, and the casual fan will be turned off by extremely low amount of content, awful shooting, crap performance, Bethesda please explain who is this game for? Only reason your trailer was memed into oblivion and back was because of the song you picked for it, every actual fan of the franchise shook their head in disgust at what the actual game was. 4 was like a turd, but an understandable one, you were trying out new dialogue mechanics, you improved some areas of the game, and others stayed behind for it, and instead of doing the brilliant thing of asking Obsidian Entertainment to do another game for you again, you decide to cry over the fact their game's metacritic score was not up to your standard despite the fact MOST OF THE ISSUES PEOPLE HAD WITH IT WAS TECHNICAL ONES BECAUSE OF YOUR SHIT 2006 ENGINE THAT YOU STILL USE TO THIS DAY AND THE FACT YOU BARELY GAVE THEM ANY TIME TO WORK ON IT.

You're just another person joining the stupid hate bandwagon before you even try something. I'm playing this game with my friends, got it on the black friday sale and it's actually amazing. There's a TON of story in the game, this guy just literally played fallout how it's not really intended. You can't just run around the world not giving a fuck and then say there's no quest or story. There are quests all the time, from the very beginning. As for the story, the only thing that changed is how it's delivered to you, as a spoiler, one of the early quests is to essentially sign up for the responder forces to help survivors... except there isn't any, so you go into different terminals, sign yourself up (just a button, not some tedious process), follow voice tapes left by the recruiter, and then eventually get to her corpse, where you get to see how she looked like before she died. You can find lots of things like notes, wills, testaments, biographies, ID cards, and then of course the holotapes which I find actually fun to listen to.
You're just hating because you expected this game to be the same as the others, essentially, Fallout 5. But they're already making that, so either wait or stop spreading unnecessary negativity when you haven't even tried the game.

Also, sorry, but I've seen hours of livestreams of 76 just to understand exactly what the fuck you do in it, and those aren't RPG quests, those are MMORPG quests. Go here, collect x, go there, kill y, excuse me is this Fallout or WoW? Where's the moral dillemas, where is the human drama.
Last point: If this game existed as it's own IP i'd be like "Okay, whatever" but tagging the Fallout brand to it is just as disrespectful to what a RPG is supposed to be as Fallout BoS was back in the ps2. Also no, I did not want Fallout 5, I wanted a second take by Obsidian Entertainment since New Vegas was the high point of the series due to their understanding of what Fallout is given how some writers who worked on that also worked on the original 2 games. You completely missed the fact that while dead, you can STILL SEE THE NPCs. In a wheelchair, lying dead on the floor, locked in a fridge, dismembered next to their tent, whatever the case. It's still there for you to see. You can see what actually happened. Not just "humanity is struggling" forever, but rather "humanity suffered and this was the result".
Literally the only difference is that instead of having someone stand there and say "We're slowly dying", you have a corpse, an environmental aftermath AND them telling you about their struggles before they died. But of course "it's on a tape so it's boring!". If you don't want to read notes randomly found in houses, tables etc then you clearly didn't care that much for an apocalyptic story, otherwise you would read it and enjoy it. You should take up professional whining as a job.

There's a difference between a sale and a price drop, price drop is directly related to game sales, the less the game sells, the less demand there is for it, therefore it's value is inhenrently lower, so the publisher makes the conscious decision to drop the price to "seduce" potential costumers. Games either do not sell cus of: A. bad marketing (lets face it, country roads was memed to hell, 76 was marketed well) or B. No market for it (as in literally no one asked for it, considering people have asked for another fallout entry to fix issues found in 4 this also does not seem to be the case) or C. quality. Idk bro, you tell me how basic economics do not show the quality of a product.

You can shit on a game if you've never played it (at least in my opinion) if, and only if: you're actively envolved in the community (i.e. Fallout youtube channels, reddit, forums, etc), know what the core of the series are about (given how I've played 1,2,tactics,NV,and 4 to hell and back I'd say I have a firm grasp on what the overall series is about) and finally but not least, have watched extensive hours of gameplay, which I have. Both unfiltered (unedited) and filtered. I've seen this "storytelling" you've been speaking of and it does not hold a candle to neither 3 nor NV, and for the most part not even to 4. Notes and dead corpses is not story telling, that's world building, two different concepts one ought to learn to create a fictionial universe. World building elements are to generate an overall vibe of "the land" to convey the type of emotions you ought to feel, story telling however is the actual meat and potatoes of the story it self, when you are doing "quests" for retards from years ago you are not helping towards building an actual introduction, middle and ending, basic shit in any story my dude, they teach that in 7th grade, keep up will ya.

couldn't be happier with the game right now its just been constant action. Running on a gtx 1080/i7 8086k no lag or issues at all on max graphics. You spawn into the game with a vast world in front of you with no idea what you might encounter. I was lucky enough to meet a group out in the wastleland and we ended up killing almost every world boss except scorchbeast because well...radiation hurts. Took over 7-8 workstations and had them fully powered gaining resources across the entire map. Found full sets of power armour and managed to score almost 20 power cores each, hidden guns, got into PVP wars all within an 8 hour session. This game was never a dull moment and is an absolute mysterious joy to uncover. My only qualm with it right now is storage space...i had to built insane amounts of generators and turrets to keep my resources low enough to where i wasn't constantly over-encumbered. While i understand Bethesda has some issues to work on especially with weird clipping, i cant say i've had one game breaking issue or concern that would shy me away from this game.
This game is still a mixed bag for me.On one hand, sometimes I really feel immersed in the world and am enjoying the quest that I'm on. On the other, I'm bored sometimes because it feels so empty and player interaction is so useless. PvP is strict too so there's no tension at all, _in a survival game_ .
I have a feeling this game will flop. They tried to cater to 2 different markets and didn't excel in either of them.

The thing with 76 is its an experiment if bethesda kept making a similar game I feel as if people would be upset too whether 76 was here or not and idk if your a console player or pc but from a console perspective this is something that doesn't really exist yet and if bethesda is your favourite game dev be happy they are attempting to branch out and try new things to enhance the next game even if this turns out shit then they will learn from it

Man I had played for like 10 hours or so before I realized you have to CLICK ON RECIPES/PLANS in the misc items menu order to learn them! I guess they did that so you can trade plans you find between other players in case you find something you DONT want to learn?

I don't think this engine is fit for a multiplayer game x_x Unless they somehow allow mods ;o I can't imagine playing a Bethesda game without mods, haha. Another thing to mention about Frame rate is that the loading times are also affected by the frame rate. So if you have 30 FPS, your game will load for longer, if you uncap the FPS and go higher than 60, the world will collapse from the bugs and broken physics XD I had to install a mod to unlock FPS cap during loading screens on Fallout 4! haha.
I feel like 76 was absolutely a wasted opportunity as it was, i think you should do an updated game guide. Ive had a completely different and better experience compared to when i first play a couple years ago to now. Like a no mans sky come back almost

it is empty 76 is fallout without all the cool things and quests in the map. i would recommend any of the fallout games even the top down ones before 76
The top down ones are the best of the series. Everything after was mediocre at best.
76 for sure has these. Vlad and Mia, two Mr Handys stuck in a loop of asking and answering each others questions (like the viral looping Siri, Alexa and Google home video). My character is also in the middle of 'joining' the order of mysteries (that resided in a manor and a none vault tec vault that resides under it), a really cool quest that you start when you happen to come across a body of one of the members. Things like this makes a Fallout title, I don't see how its 'empty' unless you've never played it?

In fallout lore, not everyone was (un)lucky enough to be allowed into vaults, many just lived on despite the radiation, so introducing proper NPCs wouldn't have been out of character. In fact every other fallout game is heavily linked with the presence of NPCs
I'm more interested in this game as a survival game, than a Fallout game. It will still be fun with all the lore that is in it though. And I could still just go play Fallout 1, 2, 3, 4, and NV. I think it is cool that Bethesda is trying something different. I'm sure that the next fallout will be more traditional.
Oh naive peon lol. All of the fallout games have been clunky shit for their time. With a good set of main and side story quests these worlds can be brought to life pretty well in a single player setting, but I'm honestly surprised they even attempted this game with their track record.
Yeah nah. Not gonna play this. I honestly can't believe they would even release this atrocity to the public, it will do more harm than good. Should have either held back production or scrapped it.

I had a much difference performance experience. I have what I would consider middle of the road pc anymore, with a gtx 1070. I was getting 80+ and well over 100 frames most of the time. I turned of vsync, removing the limiter and was able to get 144+ consistently. This is with high/ultra on everything except shadows, which I put at low. Changing to fullscreen did make a giant difference for me though, was really bad before that.

The shooting aspect is bad in the beginning of the game because you haven't leveled up your Perception stat... which dictates how well you can aim and handle your guns... so the bad shooting is intentional. To someone who is new to the game franchise this is not known, but for those of us who have played Fallout for a long time we already know this...
Honestly my only complaint with this game is the poor framerate and lag issues. Everything else is a typical fallout game, which isn't saying much since they really ought to try new things instead of rebuilding the same game over and over. What we're really paying money for is just more artwork and more writing, but at the end of the day Fallout is meant to be a sandbox experience where you as a player feel like you have the freedom to choose what you want to do, and THAT is something that was in fact quite successful in Fallout 76. If they can fix the performance issues, this game is turning out to be a great Fallout game to be honest.
the shooting aspect has never really been good from the beginning. the animations are slow and heavy, and the lackluster ragdoll physics and complete lack of tactics from enemies make fighting feel mostly unsatisfying. although bloody mess tends to make things a bit more interesting.
