- Troopers have charged Letcher County Sheriff Shawn "Mickey" Stines in the murder of Judge Kevin Mullins.
Whitesburg is a very small, close-knit community in the Eastern Kentucky mountains and to say the community is in shock would be an understatement.
"You never think it's going to happen to your community until it does," Laci Wright, a Whitesburg resident, said.

I find it hard to believe that this sheriff is so wonderful it seems he killed and innocent man to start with

what shock. after the deputy was convicted. it was between the judge and the sheriff who would lose their job and get sued and even maybe also convicted, it was the sheriff who hired the deputy and the judge who was in charge of the deputy in the courtroom, and the judge was going to railroad the sheriff to take the fall. and the sheriff knew he was being made the fall guy and had no choices left to him. so if he was gonna lose it all and even go to jail. it was for something he DID do.
"It was upsetting for everyone involved." Dying and or going to prison is very upsetting for everyone "involved". I don't think either of them won that argument.
Just so the community knows there was a camera that caught everything and they are choosing to not tell us what happened.
The judges chamber does NOT have cameras. Everyone knows that- but you.

I believe the 2 had an argument in the judges chamber… ultimately resulting in judges death… No one knows about what they were arguing. All of that is pure speculation unless the sheriff admits why he did it

LIES!! The sheriff's pastor posted a short video - family approved- asking for the gossiping and spreading rumors to stop because nothing being said is true or accurate . He alluded to mental illness and said people will be surprised when the truth comes out that it won't be nothing like what has been said. These rumors are hurting the families but most importantly, the sheriff's daughter is devastated by what is being said.
