- As the aftermath of Thursday’s Letcher County shooting unfolds, LEX 18 has learned more background information on the victim and suspect.
The shooting victim, 54-year-old Judge Kevin Mullins, was an assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for eight years before former Governor Steve Beshear appointed him district judge in 2009.

I found this in the comments section of a video report on TH-cam by a TV news station that adds details that official news outlets are not providing, possibly because they cannot corroborate these details, or they're not completely accurate.
* Stines (the deputy who did the shooting) didn't control and discipline Fields, the former deputy who was sexually abusing a woman, and so was part of the lawsuit by the woman against Fields.
* Mullins (the judge) probably called Stines out.
* Stines didn't like he was being called out and shot Mullins.
* (not mentioned in this video) The DA is related to Mullins, so he recused himself from this case, which is actually the right thing to do.

@@UncleStepon You're absolutely correct! I watched about a dozen news station video reports from different sources, each with a little more information, and read the comments under the videos. What I commented was based on that. It's amazing to me that the real story is coming out so slowly. Maybe it's out of respect for the families that they don't want to heap a huge scandal on them publicly so soon while they and the townsfolk are all grieving.

The judge must have known something that was more damaging to the sheriff than a prison sentence, because there's no way the sheriff thought he could get away with this.
I doubt the sheriff would've went to prison for what his deputy did. 😊

Considering it was in the Judges chambers where the Deputy played with the woman the Judge has to be in on it. Judge and Sheriff go way back. It was one of his deputies and she was his prisoner at some point. It's not far fetched to think they're all involved with something much darker than they're letting on.

The sheriff wasn't covering up anything. That's what they want you to believe. That stuff happened a while ago. The judge was having relations with the sheriff's daughter, sounds like. It's already on record, in another hearing, with convictions, that a lady did things for a deputy in that judges chambers. The deputy was fired and convicted, the judge wasn't charged. So we already know the judge was a freak AND that he considered himself untouchable. This rumor fits perfectly.

@@branthandford2212 Nothing has been proven, but the sheriff was elected *before* the lawsuit. In the lawsuit the sheriff was *accused* (not proven) of indifference, but in 2022 when the lawsuit was filed the sheriff did immediately fire the deputy.

If we see a red dog, we don't look at this red dog, and say " Look at that blue dog?" We call things as what we know for sure, as to what we see. The judge for years has been into things that wasn't right. There were SMS sent to the cops daughter, and even the cops wife I was told by someone that knew for a FACT, the cops wife was sleeping with the judge. Stines, walked into the judges office , and ask to speak to him alone. Stines ask to see the judges cell phone, to see if there was proof he sent nude pictures, to his daughter. And there was. Some say, there were more on there beside that. Stines gave the judge his phone back, and then showed the judge he had proof his daughter sent him the nude pictures from the judge. People said the judge was trying to or did RAP Stines daughter. Stines walked over and locked the door, and walked back over to the judge, and shot him 8 times. Them walked out, with his hands in the air, and said "He took my family !"
