    Hey guys! I really liked your video. I'm getting ready to install some gently used carpet in my fiance's house, and we are working with very limited funds. I'm 62 years old and the stretcher seems like the best option for me. I wouldn't have known it except for watching your video. Thank you!

    Nice video Keith.
    I’ve just ordered one from Kneeless and look forward to using it. I’m sure it may take some time to get the technique right, but it has to make things easier on the body/ back surely!
    After years of installing carpet I need easier 😂

    Does the kneeless work on concrete subfloors or is it like the picks for power stretcher?

      I have a video coming out on how to hack your stretcher / that being said I’ve always snipped the ends so they don’t bend and don’t pull. So if I understood the question the answer is yes

    I use the kicker because it’s easier but it wrecks my body, almost like it’s a necessary evil. I find I get a better stretch from my kneeless with half the effort but get frustrated and give up before giving it a red hot go. I’ll have another crack at the kneeless this weekend.
    Love you style of laying and your videos. I’ve been watching since the first bird cage bullnose👍

    I've always used a power stretcher with poles. Sometimes using a stinger or hook attachment. Always learning so many different ways to stretch carpet.

  • @jameslucas746
    @jameslucas746 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don't see you cutting any carpet off that you have stretched? It looks like you're just bumping and tucking.

  • @robbiegreen7338

    The carpet stretcher is better it stretches tighter than if you kick but kick is faster, I only used the stretcher on restretches

    I like your Directorship & Acting simultaneously. I probably won’t get to any reply by the time I DYI my basement carpet back in place. It was out-of-place, very loose to 10+ feet towards the center of the room, and creased by being folded over for weeks. I wanted to use the knee kicker beginning from closer to the center of the room in order to pull the carpet without the benefit of a longer power stretcher. Not knowing if this would actually work. It seems the weight of your body would provide a reasonable hold as you move from center to wall. I am ok with an 85% job, just would prefer not to pay someone $1/sf when I have 3 room to re-tack

    I use a pole stretcher and have never seen the type you use. Do you use your type of stretcher on a big room? Or do you use a pole stretcher? Cause if you use your type everywhere and don’t have to carry the heavy pole stretcher around, that would awesome.

  • @markruby3916
    @markruby3916 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I mean the problem is you are required for warranty to get a certain amount of stretch per foot of carpet… this works great for small jobs and not super dense carpets, but not gonna work for anything high end. And if you knee kick like that you don’t have to worry about knee issues… I’m just giving ya guys shit lol… but I may have to try one for smaller jobs so thanks and have a great day

    There is no substitute for a power stretcher a kicker is not a tensioning tool it is a helper tool for the power stretcher

  • @habanohal
    @habanohal 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Kicker isn't really meant to stretch rooms, stairs and closets that cant fir a stretcher. Concrete I use triforce and wood most likely spike

  • @NzRasengan

    If you don't use the kneeless stretcher I feel bad for your body. Always works better than a kicker. Unless the carpet is incredibly light and thin with a softer backing. Only then is the kicker going to stretch it more. Layers that doubt the kneeless have been doing it rough I can tell ya :D

    Stretcher is better easy to use plus you got control of it

  • @agrota21
    @agrota21 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry, but I will never believe that a kicker can achieve the same stretch as a power stretcher. I think the Kneeless and the Tri Force are reasonable alternatives to a pole stretcher, in the hands of someone who cares to do it right, but if the standard is 1 to 1 1/2% , that would be almost 1 1/2" per 12 feet of carpet...you cannot achieve that with a kicker. I doubt you were getting that with your speedy kneeless in this video, but you probably could come close if you tried. You Tube is full of videos where guys are restretching crappy knee kicker installs. You appear to be a good installer, but I think you should not be using a kicker to install.

    • @KeithShannonDirectCarpet
      @KeithShannonDirectCarpet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only use a kicker on stairs!! My helper uses a kicker lol. I think kickers are a waste of time for rooms/ suicidal really

      @@KeithShannonDirectCarpet I installed for 12 years. At the end of my installation career, I was a QC manager for a large installation contractor. Every day, I would check on 15 crews in my territory. We had this one guy who had a power stretcher, but was too lazy to pull it out of his truck, and thought his 5 helpers with knee kickers could do the same job as 1 guy with a power stretcher. I can't tell you how many jobs of his came back. I personally restretched one of his jobs after we fired him...I took 2" off the living room and about an inch off of each of the bedrooms. This was only about a week after his install. No one should allow their helper to install with a kicker. It is the lead installer's responsibility and his reputation is at stake. The reason I ran across your channel, is because I am looking at the Tri Force and the Kneeless as options to get back into the business as a repair guy, focusing on restretch and patching. I am astounded, every day, at all the loose carpets I see, both on You Tube and on Realtor.com, since I am looking to buy a house. There are so many hack installers out there, I can't believe it. I even saw a comment by an installer the other day who said "just kick it in, unless they are paying you by the hour, then do it right". It's a matter of integrity. Just because it's okay for today, doesn't mean it will last...what are we? Slimy used car salesmen?

      Any type of lever stretcher is the way to go but that said I could do some good stretches with a kicker. Kicker keeps your butt nice and firm but wrecks the knees.
