I know this scene gets overlooked compared to the many other scenes in this movie but this scene establishes all we need to know about Wyatt Earp for this movie. He's a man of action who prefers to get shit done himself when something needs doing with enough experience to know when he's dealing with cowardly bullshitters like Johnny Tyler. Not only that but this scene establishes that Wyatt has a reputation and that reputation carries weight as we are reminded of throughout the rest of the movie. When Doc Holiday says Wyatt's name in front of Tyler he looks surprised and a little in awe about the man he was about to shoot. Like he couldn't believe he was in this man's presence. Then when Wyatt tells him to leave the shotgun he does so without a complaint and is never seen again. So his word carries weight too and should be heeded. It's a hell of a introduction and small glimpse into Wyatt's character.
I had a hard time telling that was billy Bob Thornton when I first saw it too, since he's not usually that chubby. But he has that distinctive voice that you can't miss. And I KNOW that was a humiliating scene to play being Johnny Tyler, but he played it to PERFECTION!

Two things: Wyatt had the might of all his brothers in the town street so he rollin' like five deep with his crew yet this MF living legend walks into the bar by himself to access the situation. Once he gets the immediate particulars and reads the room instantly, Earp doesn't even consider going out getting backup, but instead, without hesitation, and cool as a cucumber, makes a beeline right for the threat, total lone wolf, one man wrecking crew. He goes into the hornet's nest one against four, I count. Yet he already deduced once he neutralizes the Queen Bee leader, the other three will vaporize and disappear like the followers they are. And he makes quick work of the so-called, pysdo-Alpha dog in under 60 seconds lickidy-split, throwing him out onto the street like trash litter where his brothers be still loitering without a glimmer of worry in any of their Woolymanath impressive sized mustached faces. This wasn't any pre-conceived notion on their part, but, in their minds, foregone conclusion. This scene establishes our main man Wyatt as a natural born leader, take charge, do it himself kind of guy and just general all around certified bad-ass. Kurt Russell freakin' owns this scene. This is his hero establishing time to shine and Kurt is incapable of a false moment. He's The Goat. So, what actor in their right mind would be crazy enough to want to follow that tour de force flex by a master class performer who just threw down an instant sizzle reel career highlight execution of character and full on peacock display of his sheer indomitable majesty of self to the world and cinema time capsule? What insane actor of misguided bravado would want to try and follow THAT? What lunatic screenwriter tried to introduce an even greater bad ass protagonist immediately after in the very following continuous scene? That's two craftsmen surely living in a fool's paradise. Then Val Kilmer officially enters the Tombstone verse and without breaking a sweat or looking in any way ruffled, effortlessly establishes his screen presence dominance in one of cinema's most charismatic, awe-inspiring, hypnotic big screen performances ever put to celluloid. I started dating a girl that lived at the end of a cul de sac, her ex boyfriend lived on the way in. I would ride my motorcycle to see her and it seemed like every single time her ex would be outside with his friends and every single time he'd yell stuff at me. I mean every time and he would just laugh with his buddies and I never once said a word. Well one day weeks later I was with my girlfriend inside her dads house and I looked out the window and he was out there talking to her brother who lived next door. This is my love letter to a brilliant piece of cinema that when it achieves this kinda level of illumination and true greatness, really transcends its medium and just becomes a minor miracle in the realm of escapist entertainment and the arts. It becomes inspiration to achieve greatness in whatever endeavor we got going in life too. That's nothing to sneer at or be dismissive of either.

I started dating a girl that lived at the end of a cul de sac, her ex boyfriend lived on the way in. I would ride my motorcycle to see her and it seemed like every single time her ex would be outside with his friends and every single time he'd yell stuff at me. I mean every time and he would just laugh with his buddies and I never once said a word. Well one day weeks later I was with my girlfriend inside her dads house and I looked out the window and he was out there talking to her brother who lived next door. I never said anything I just walked outside and walked right up to him and open handed pimp slapped him as hard as I could. He fell back against a tree in the yard and I said. ok, here I am so say something to me now punk boy!! Funny thing is he said he didn't have any problem with me and I never heard him say another word to me ever as I rode by.

A reminder of why I blocked almost all of these channels - just talking over the dialogue like it ain't no thing. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I suppose I should be fair and point out that TH-cam has successfully killed movie reactions. Maybe these folks felt like if they talked over the dialogue it would prevent a copyright claim. Probably not, but I'm trying to be fair.
