    I respect Sori's opinion, different strokes for different folks I guess but this song sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it, from the first time I got the album in the 90s up to this day. You ought to try more recent compositions from this band, give it another chance! Black crow on a tombstone maybe? Or something like King or the live version of Phenix. Cheers and may your god bless you both.

      If they just liked every song and gave them all high scores, this would be a boring channel, I love that they're all over the board and can polarize each other. I think Vin needs to get his ass to Norway.

    • @Kajtek666
      @Kajtek666 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree with Sori, it was fucking boring. I've heard this version for the first time and it sounds like a pile of garbage. Orchestra and choir killed misty, dusty and frosty atmosphere of the song. Guitars were buried in the mix, bass is non-existent, you can only hear vocals (Satyr's and and fucking choir), drums (the only instrument, that is properly mixed) and strings.
      Comparing this to original, album version is like Cold Lake vs first two Celtic Frost albums.
      I wonder, what would be Sori's reaction to official video.

    This the first black metal song that I really “got” while hearing it, beyond the music itself......like felt in my chest, this cold and foreboding feel, but also weirdly powerful and almost ancient.
    After that kinda clicked I moved onto other black metal in a whole different way, even stuff I had heard before and not liked.
    The original is obviously not with the chorus but it’s perfect to see this way for people not already into bm- kind of helps with the vibe I guess.

  • @Zeitgeist6
    @Zeitgeist6 6 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I prefer the original honestly. The chorus just makes it less raw and sincere sounding. The original sounds cold and way more threatening.

And the whole orchestra gave a felling of even more epic to the song. And I LOVE the riffs of this one, specially the first two riffs.BUT, Satyr voice totally gone, what is really sad, he had great screams back in the day, but this don't ruin the performance of course (at least not in that case).

    I think that these guys should be more down Sori's alley, and it still has everything that Vin likes about black metal:
    ''Carach Angren - The Funerary Dirge of a Violinist''. They tell horror stories, this one particularly is about the tragedies of WWII. Both lyrics and the song are absolutely beautiful.
    Also, ''Carach Angren - There's no Place Like Home''. It has an official lyric video with cool animation that follows the story; it's about domestic abuse, and since you're parents, it might really resonate with you.

    Apocalyptica - I’m not Jesus ft Corey Taylor official video or their live performances are interesting. They are an instrumental band typically but they do collaborations with different artists. I prefer their instrumental songs over their collabs but if you want lyrics to read this is the best one I can think of. They are from Finland but if you haven’t seen them before they do something a little different and that’s all I’m going to say!

      Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band, formed in 1991 in Oslo. Satyr and Frost have been the band's core members since 1993. The band's first three albums typify the Norwegian black metal style. Since its fourth album in 1999, the band has strayed from this style and included elements of traditional heavy metal in their sound. Satyricon was the first Norwegian black metal band to join a multi-national record label (EMI).[2]

      good pick, my dude. love that song! • @Sovspot
    @Sovspot 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    If you have the true religion then you wouldn't have to force people to worship by conquest, that's right Sori. Really makes one think.

    • @charred6683
      @charred6683 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Millions of people everyday keep believing in things that are wrong when the obvious truth is in their face, they don't want this truth to be true so they keep believing wrong things. So even if there was one true religion, there would be a lot of people not believing it. Maybe there's a true religion RIGHT NOW and we just don't see it because this keeps going on instead of seeing everyone flock to the same "truth".

    • @Sovspot
      @Sovspot 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It would make one question as to the validity of any religion as none of them to offer any evidence to prove their claims. Evidence would show them to be true, and their "truth" would no longer need described with quotation marks. However, like you said, people would rather than believe in what is wrong with absolutely certainty rather than actual truth with the uncomfortable feeling of doubt. Even if doubt is actually a good thing.

    Looking forward to more 2nd wave of black metal reactions - say, Darkthrone next, or maybe some earlier Burzum...
    Also guys, you should fix the name of the band in the title - “Satyricon”, not Satiyricon.

    Interesting point on the multiculturalism of christianity. I've read somewhere that many native American/Aztec tribes accepted christianity so quickly, because they understood the story of Jesus Christ. Sacrifice is a very important and deeply rooted concept for them, so when they were presented with the story about Jesus Christ dying for our sins, it made perfect sense for them.
    It's another thing, that the conquistadors didn't accept their culture and massacred them anyway.

    I'm sure you were simply following someone's suggestion, but honestly you should have listened to the original studio recording (preferably without the hammy music video). This live rendition is fine, but it's a bit overblown, and a lot of the atmosphere and feel is lost in translation. Besides, Nemesis Divina's recording is actually pretty hi-fi for black metal
