      They were fairly effective against the heavy camel and the shield guy in the demo, at least for me. I was spamming crossbows and it worked fine

      @piotrm5635 well, any ranged unit in Stronghold always needs numbers to be effective.

      Crossbowman spam can still wipe out any new beduin unit horde

      Its the light ones you gotta worry about - I saw the camel lancers just outrun what felt like 50x their hp in quarrels.
      Besides that, heavy camels seem to take about 3 shots and demolishers take 7 to the shield. In the end, enough xbow can hold back even pikeman hordes so they should be fine vs the bedouin units.

    I'm a *tiny* bit disappointed that they haven't considered adding units to fill out other possible combinations of armory goods. Like leather with swords, pikes, or spears, or plate armor with mace. Not that any of that is deal breaking, of course.

    Demolisher's shield actually only works against ranged units like archers. So other melee units apear to be the counter to them

    So it looks like they took some of the good stuff from SC2 (healers/oilpots), and addressed the most problematic units(xbows, horsearchers, catapults) with some possible counter units.
    Camel lancer - First guess would be that its like the Warlords light cav or S2 holebar; just a particularly fast spearman. Being a mounted unit its a given that it cant dig moats or clear towers. Didn't seem very durable to xbows in the demo, but what is?
    Heavy camel - Saw it occasionally and it didn't impress. Then again, I only saw a few walk up to a tower full of xbows and die in about 3 hits. Seems like it might be a better answer to horse archers than an xbow garrison. As for the melee damage - no idea. Prolly something like a maceman.
    Demolisher - Most likely the best melee unit for sieges, now. Walked through a fair number of xbow shots - more than a pike. Dies in 2 xbow hits without the shield. Seems fairly strong in melee. Didn't look like it could di moats tho. Mostly seems like an arab pikeman alternative.
    Skirmisher - Javelins do very little damage to armor (fair) and fire slowly. Two shot by xbow. Good for siege sniping tho for being fast, ranged (sometimes) and apparently cheap. Poor mans horse archer?
    Healer - Right out of SC2. Knights + healing = happy fun time. Prolly a good combo with Heavy Camels and shields too.
    Sapper - An arab unit that doesnt suck vs walls. BS if it cant dig up moats.
    Eunuch - There's a limit to how strong mercenary units can be. Might just be a ball of hp that can hold of spearman swarms. Sounds broken on paper, but arabian swordsmen also sound decent by the description.
    Ambusher - Fire throwers that cant be sniped by archers before they get to do damage. Seems like an upgrade.

    The healers are from Crusader 2, and the eunuchs are similar to the dervishes from Crusader 2 as well.

    one thing they should add to the game is walls and gate could only be destroyed by catapults, trebuchet and tunnelers e.t.c and not by melee dudes.

      @@KashifIqbal-b1h age of empires 4 has that works pretty well, but units do very low damage to walls anyway its not that big of an issue. I still find it useful to make siege engines

    Lions were OP against knights in the demo . Would love to recruit them at the bedouin stockade :)

      I remember a time I sent 3 knights to kill a single bear in stronghold 1. 2 died and the last was under half hp. Knights might just suck vs wildlife in general.

      @@aminadabbrulle8252 I mean, some of those european hogs got to ABSURD sizes. Bears and wolves were even a significant threat to colonizers at for a good while into the the 18th century - the 'lets not make a town here' sort of threat. Animals should totally be scary in the game.

    I like the new Units but I wish the MP would have a Macemen/Berserker equiv.
    A fast unit, with good DPS and okay HP/resistances.

    im glad the devs have learned from the Unofficial Crusader Community Patch and implemented a healing source. but it would also be a good quality-of-life improvement if javelins could be replaced when unit is tasked back to barracks and a small recharge time, and for demolishers they could get a new shield if they are tasked back to an engineer post with a small recharge time. this would make the two units more viable, allowing you to recharge their equipment after surviving a siege, and be used in the counter attack
    new units are good, but with all new units in any RTS, they have to contend with the reliability and versatility of the vanilla roster, lets use for example, the western swordsman. Is using demolishers really going to be worth it, when spending my time and money and attention on making western swordsman will give me a similar or better outcome in the first place? Or even just maceman + mass engi/shields who already have good dps vs buildings?
    either way i still agree with adding the new units

      Demolishers do take a very good amount of xbow hits to the shield. Not sure about the melee fighting, but it seems decent high. But we'll need the cost and check its utility vs moats before deciding. Either way, it'll be hard to be better than assasins or worse than arab swordsmen.

      In Stronghold crusader all units are useless except Shields, catapults, horse archers and assasins. They should nerf them first, and nerf really hard.
      Why do I need those new units if I can build 100 catapults and delete enemy stronghold and whole army and all buildings.

      @@maximum9977 Not sure about assassins, but the rest for sure. I'd add xbows to the nerf list too tho - enough of these on a tower and then its siege equipment or bust. Need either a damage or hp nerf.
      Curious tho, what makes assasins OP - I know they're super popular in multiplayer but between moats and normal archers I thought they were easy to counter?

    Any news on the AI being improved? As fun as it was to begin with, watching the enemy ai march troops into a death trap got a bit boring.

    No one seems to be taking about the ONE thing that made this game truly unbalanced. Catapults. What have they done to address mass Catapults? If they havent been patched or touched. All someone has to do is create 60-100 Catapults and the game is over.

      This new unit, skirmisher, has specialization in destroing siege. Ranged! And they have solid range too, so I think this is what they try to do.

      @Bzhydack Lol how are they supposed to stop 100 Catapults attacking them at once? Catapults do not just melt castles. They absolutely obliterate any enemy in the game. How are Skirmishers supposed to stop them? Do they kill them in one hit? What happens if someone backs up their Catapults with 100 Horse Archers? How do the Skirmishers even get close lol?

      @@mee091000 I mean, if someone has had time to do 100 catapults and 100 horse archers, what are you doing in the meantime? probably you can mass some other kind of unit to counter them before they reach critical mass, they are clearly not cheap at all.

      @@Jonjon13Jonjon13 Look up a Stronghold Crusader unit tier list. There's a guy named Jefflenious that will show exactly how broken Catapults are. I don't think you've ever seen them mass produced before. The only "viable" counter is to make your own mass Catapults. Which means the game ends the moment your Catapults are gone.

      I think extended modding capability is what kept other franchise like AOE alive. Hope the dev of Stronghold learned some lessons and implement modding support.

      I agree its not rly designed to be a pvp type game but fog of war would be an addition that would be good but only in pvp, i feel pve is fine as is. Keep in mind all the ai would have to be redisigned to scout the map etc.

      No, they are just new. So instead of previously 20 units, crusader DE will have 28 units.

    They still milking a 20 year old game since their others games are not as good 🤣but it's interesting, why were Stronghold 1 and Stronghold Crusader so good while starting Stronghold 2 the company went rock bottom? that was 20 years ago, who left after Stronghold Crusader 1?

      It was the shift to 3d that messed things up for stronghold 2. Otherwise, that and legends were solid.
      SC2 had just too many bugs and the balance of things was just nuts so the bad outweighed the good. SC3 is pretty good now, but barely functioned on release. Warlords is actually just straingt up good tho, and might be the best if it had the same 2d iso style.

      You say that like it's a bad thing. Instead of doubling down and continuing to release worse stuff for the sake of being different. They realized that if it's not broke don't fix it. Just improve and build upon what's already there. Stronghold Crusader is probably the greatest *actual* RTS game of all time. The only other game that competes with it is Supreme Commander Forged Alliance. Stronghold Crusader in particular can run on anything, the characters look great, the art style looks great, the tone is great, the campaigns are great, there's thousands of hours of content in just the base game, etc.

      @@psssshhh7730 Yeah, the change to 3D killed a lot of these games. Impressions' city builders was another franchise that fared very poorly shifting from classic 1990s style animation and 2D isometric. Those old games have a certain charm that they could never replicate even as the 3D models got less ugly.

    Game is way too easy play. AI is really bad and enver represent any threat. Like you can withing few minutes build up insane army with siege weaspons while opppoment ai have like few troops and thats it.
