  • A short review on the new features of the Godox Witstro AD360 II. This is the mark 2 of the popular AD-360 portable strobe from Godox. I'll describe the new features and the accessories I like to use with mine.

    Hello. Can I use the YongNuo YN-622N on my D800 as trigger for the Godox and in High Speed Sync? Or do I need to buy the X1? Thanks, Ben

    Great reviwe and info thanks!
    QUESTIONS:
    1. what is the umbrella side adapter called? I can't figure out where to purchase it.
    2. What is the battery holder clip, and where can we get it?

    Hi Martin, thanks for the great review. Question , have you actually tried to fire Nikon flashes in CLS using this flash as a master on the camera? In some cases I still use the Nikon CLS, and would like to still have this feature. Would you trust this heavy flash in the D810 or 7100 flash shoe?

    Thanks for the review, Martin. It's very helpful. Do you have any idea if you can mix and match the triggers and the flashes? For example, would a Sony trigger (X1S ) fire a Nikon flash AD360II-N? I realise that there are specific flashes for each manufacturer, but as the flash is only talking to the X1, I'm wondering if it would be possible to mix them. Naturally, the on-camera ability would be lost.

    +Martin Cheung You refer to a Mark I Flash, are you saying that there were two versions before this AD360II?

    I am interested in the AD360ii unit to use with both my Nikon and Sony cameras. Will I need two separate versions of triggers and receivers? Will I need an external receiver to plug into the flash unit in order to work with the Sony?
    I can't figure out if the newer AD360 (Mark ii) will work with the X1T-S trigger (on my sony) without plugging an external usb receiver into the AD360ii? I know that the receivers are built in on the Mark ii version, but they are made for Nikon & Canon... I'm assuming that only means I wont get TTL function with the Sony (obviously), but I will still be able to control the output of the AD360ii manually (in HSS) from the X1T-S unit. Is that correct?
    Thanks for the helpful vids!

      Thanks Martin. I did finally get the X1T-N with the AD600B-TTL nonetheless and will use my YN622's for my Nikon SB700 as well as my Multiblitz compact lites mono light flashes. I purchased from Eachshot as you recommended and they gave me the XT1 for free with the Godox.

    Hi Martin, thanks so much for your very informative videos. I've been following your excellent videos and reviews. Like yourself, I have the Godox flashes as well and also shoot with Nikon. And I'm on the fence whether to get an AD360II. I'm thinking that if I have 4 or 5 of the Godox TT600 or TT685N, I wouldn't need an AD360II. My question is: What type of shoots have you had the need for more power to use the AD360II vs. the Godox or SB910 flashes? And which one do you use most of the time, AD360II or the Godox flashes?

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ike Cantle You are right. If you have 4-5 speedlights then you wouldn't need the AD360II. But it's a question of practicality. I tend to set my AD360 up on a lightstand now or (or pole if I have an assistant) and just move it around with me. Setting up 4-5 speedlights will take time and as a wedding photographer, I don't want to be using precious time like that.
      In general i try to use the AD360 mk2 for off camera work and speedlights for on camera. But often I use whatever is the quickest if appropriate.

      Thanks again, Martin! You're helping me make an informed decision whether to buy one of those 360's. Keep up the good work :-)

  • @mikegreenslade1069

    Hi Martin! I have the Goddox AD600B Ettl strobe X1-T trigger 'C' (firmware 15) and Canon 5d Mk3 Dslr. When I shoot Off camera flash in Ettl mode with just the one strobe, powering up or down the X1-T trigger simply won't alter the power. The power has to be done 'in-Camera' (+\-) and the strobe works fine. The Profoto B1 air-remote works in the same method with only one B1.
    Powering up and down in Manual setting on the X1-T works fine.
    If you add another Strobe in Ettl in the set-up then, Ettl works from the X1-T no problem.
    Anyone else finding this? I'm in the UK.
    Coming from the Profoto B1 and air remote (Canon) the two systems (X1-T, AD600B) work identical.

    I found a rare problem in godox ad360ii c, while shooting at ISO 100 from my canon 700D it is giving me a red tone in all the pictures, in ISO 200 it is getting reduced and in ISO 400 natural colour tone can be seen. can you please explain it, why it's happening? I took few shots with other canon DSLRs and giving more or less same kind of images in different iso level. please help me in this issue.

    Hi thanks for your video, but i have a problem: A little screw on hotshoue cannot hold the light strongly and safely! Is there any adapter more stronger for this attach?

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you buy the AD360, it should come with another baseplate you can swap the bottom plate for. So you can remove the hotshoe and replace it with a flat base with a screw mount.
      That said I've never had any issues with the hotshoe mount

  • @jas_bataille
    @jas_bataille 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The umbrella mount is a little ridiculous, since it doesn't let you use a reflective umbrella but only a shoot-through... weird to say the least. Also flash will be off-center of the umbrella. I'll pass on that.
    Very powerful... but as an event photographer, I would only use it for portraits. The recycling time is *way* too slow IMHO. EDIT : just saw you can cut it by hand so I might reconsider this. Also not a lot of accessories will fit on it... but, it's a fantastic portable strobe at this point. Hope it came with the option to use regular AAs as I just wanna use it as a portable strobe. I hardly ever see myself using a flash that powerful, my SB-600 is fine in events. I don't want the flash to show in the picture at all. Perhaps in extreme low-light... shame that battery packs like this are not available for most standard speed-lites...

    Hi Martin would you or anyone else know if this can be triggered via the Canon ST-ES RT transmitter? Thanks for the review!

  • @Marcbillingsley
    @Marcbillingsley 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you charge the battery pack WHILE you are using it to shoot? As a wedding photographer, I could envision running low at the reception and wanting to use one of my paul Buff vagabonds to charge the battery while still working. Is that possible in any way? I'd also love to know if any trigger using Canon TTL language can remotely control power/TTL/HSS. Obviously, you'd need to add a receiver on the hotshoe, but seems like it would work fine as it's TTL enabled.

    • @thepretenda
      @thepretenda 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Marc Billingsley Photography I have the AD360 and running out of power is not the problem. The problem is being addicted to hammering the flash and the weight of the whole unit on top of the camera. I did a 6 hour reception with 480 guests and I was hammering the AD360 (using the Y adapter) the whole way through. The AD360 is about 200g heavier at 830g and feels enormously heavy for hand held use. It's a tank and delivers the heavy duty power.

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +thepretenda Whilst you can use it on top of the camera, it's not really been designed to be an on camera flash.

    Hey Martin great vid! Can the new trigger/receivers work on the 1st version? Thanks!

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +CGphotoOp Yes. You need to purchase the XTR16 receiver which connects to the mk1's port instead of the usual FT16. Then it should work.

    Can you use the x1 trigger on camera to fire the flash without another trigger on the flash itself?

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Courtney Chen Yes. So X1 trigger on camera can control any 2.4Ghz compatible Godox flash. Interestingly they have even released modules so you can have backward compatibility with older V850/V860 or the AD360 Mk1 too.

    Can the Godox TT600 or TT685N overpower the sun when shooting at high noon?

    • @MartinCheung-Photography
      @MartinCheung-Photography  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ike Cantle Hi Ike. In theory it depends. I would say at high noon, the TT600 & TT685's being speedlights are unlikely to unless you are very close to the subject. The AD360 or even the AD600 would be more flexible in this situation.

      You will need to buy the XTR16 USB module to plug into the side of the AD360Mk1 instead of the FTR-16 Then it will work. I've tested it and it's fine.

    • @MartinCPhotographyCoUk
      @MartinCPhotographyCoUk 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Simon Elliott Hi Simon. I've done a review on that too. Using the same light modifier, the AD600 gives you an extra stop of light. However that does come at the cost of size and weight. The AD600 is a much bigger and heavier beast.

      +Dang N Yes absolutely. works great. Although for night time and indoor weddings you probably don't need this much power. Get a normal speedlight and a beauty dish/softbox and save some money.
      But for when you need power, this is great
