Just returned last week, and one must-see in the area is Marche Jean-Talon. What a great place, cheese shop and crepes were great, not to mention the meats and produce. Go there either before or after your bagel mission, not too far away.

Not even slightly. Everyone we met there was amazing. The graffiti artist we just met randomly and you saw how nice that guy was in the video. You don't need to speak french there but the locals certainly welcome your attempt at it. :)
If you come live here for an extended period of time, you are expected to try to learn French but everyone will be just as nice to you when you speak English :)
And indeed, just trying to speak French is really appreciated (even if your French is terrible, it's even more heart warming)
