The first time I saw this film I was in the hospital after just having brain surgery going through a mid life crisis when this came on it taught no matter what comes just enjoy yourself and laugh through the madness
They just lost almost everything important in their lifes and still both have the strength to say "Good Bye" with a last dance...that's what makes this scene so powerful! Love it! :')
but the bottom line is...they didnt lost anything ... they didnt need anything ,life is simple ,little food, place to sleep and love, dance and happines . you dont need big houses, fancy cars, fancy clothes...
Most definitely one of the best.. I adore this clip.. Im going through a phase of watching film clip endings.. There are some great Ones. Clint Eastwood films an example.. So many ... Yet i return to this as a favourite.. 🍃🌿🕊
A classic movie (1964) based on the 1946 novel by Nikos Kazantzakis. It is the late Anthony Quinn’s finest performance. Brilliant musical score and dance choreography by Mikis Theodorakis that featured the sirtaki Greek dance with the bouzouki Greek guitar music which became popular worldwide. Memorable movie ending scene.
ZORBA THE GREEK. My father, Evangellos, was a stern disciplinarian yet bundled within a silk vail of sentimentality. On a warm, sunny afternoon, I took him to the cinema to see Anthony Quinn play “Zorba the Greek”. During the movie, he calmly asked me what village Antony Quinn's family was from in Greece. "No Pop..he's Mexican and Irish”...I said. Well quite upset hearing this and with an anger ready to swing an arm toward my face for disrespecting him, I persuaded my dad to keep calm and watch the entire movie. He did not appreciate the way ELLAS, the ancient historic name of his birthplace ( he refused to utter the word Greece..."It's ELLAS", he would demand" ) was depicted casting the poor populous of Crete in such a disrespectful manner….BUT….in that classic scene when Zorba, with sparkles in his eyes, hungrily looking at the sea ...started running impulsively toward it.... tearing off his clothes....”butt naked” ….diving into the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea….and !…….well my Dad burst out laughing like a wild, crazed Zorba. He was beside himself ! Why….you could see his tears rolling down his face...hearing that explosive laughter all the way outside in the parking lot. Later on, he admitted to me that he, as a youth,..."did the same Damn Thing ! " Memories
This film was so vivid for me when I saw it at the cinema as a very young person that I remembered it in colour. I was flabbergasted when I saw it for the second time and found that it had always been in black and white. The most powerful film of all time, the most poignant, the most impactful and moving. The music of Mikis Theodorakis is beautiful and painful and jubilant. The matching of Alan Bates with Anthony Quinn is masterful.
Zorba's grave is located in Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. I think he immigrated in 1920. I think he died in 1944 when the Bulgarian fascists were here.
@@ljubestojanovski4475 That's very interesting. I assume you don't have information on exactly how he died, but I imagine the fascists had everything to do with it.
