I’m not sure if they go into it more in the show, but to be accurate about Mandela, they cannot just be directly half Japanese, the odds of the white genes overcoming the Asian ones for eye and hair color is 96% against 4% Probability. More likely, they EACH have a mixed parent who each has a white parent and an Asian parent. That multiplies their odds of a recessive or two up to 30% or so, I forget exactly.
