This the second video from @brookcristoutdoors and I trip to fish the pacific northwest. We fished the Wilson river out of Tillamook, Oregon for 2 days. Our goal was to catch steelhead and the river sure didn't disappoint! We took some steelhead home to cook for dinner and it was incredible. Steelhead are rainbow trout that have left the river and gone into the ocean to feed and grow. They later return to the same river they were born in, to spawn. Unlike salmon steelhead can spawn several times, making them extremely unique and one of natures miracles!

Low and to the left/ inside I got from Eyefish. More of a tactic to get fish in outta big water before you gotta take a ride. Definitely makes it harder on the guy holding the bag if done at the end since the fish shoots like a missile each way you guide it! What a stellar day that dude and his chick had. Lotta people seemed to be having fun on that one.

There are a lot of good fishing channels on YT. This one is a step above. I love the fact that you are conservationists who catch, clean, and cook... but don't waste. And I love that you are wholesome, friendly, and respectful of parents and those who have some wisdom and life experience. Happy Mother's Day!
if you really dont want to waste the fish you use the carcass for gardening; just burry it in a raised bed or make a fish emollition. Make a fish stock or chop it up and freeze for crab bait

I have been in continued business since 1976 guiding and building drift boats - jet sleds - and now a Dory.
If you two want a mini-12-foot drift boat, I have two in construction now.
The amazing part about owning the Mini drift boats is they do small steams no one does like I float Eagle creek from Hwy 212 , this flows into the Clackamas R.
I will custom build fiberglass - wood - Aluminum boats in order.
Best thing about the video is the dog bark matching the guys' energy every time they hook one, Love it!
To be honest sometimes the barking gets annoying, kind of why I dont watch his videos

I love the genuine excitement in these guys' voices every single fish, so jealous and happy for you to be able to fish and travel like this. Awesome video man, would love to see some more inshore slams back in FL, I'm up in central myself, some days it can be challenging to get a bite without a boat, would like to be shown how it's done lol.

I have caught and eaten both steelhead and salmon from Washington State coastal rivers and once they were filleted they never had time for all these toppings and the presentation. Because it was down the hatch with mashed potatoes and butter and a salad. Yummm!

Epic collab! We just left the PNW for Colorado. It was a great 5 year run and I definitely won't miss the rain! Most people can't comprehend 130+ inches of rain a year.

Hey Vic, I grew up in the NW and found the best way to cook SH is very simple. First spray meat side with some type of oil, then place on high heat on BBQ for several minutes skin side down. Granted you have left the skin on, let it cook to get good grill marks (4-5) minutes and flip to skin side for another 4 minutes. Use whatever spice but lemon pepper is always a great compliment. Very simple but your guest will enjoy.

Steelhead is one of those fish you can't go wrong with. Baked, panfried, seared or sashimi style, it all works. Being from Canada, I found it funny that South Floridians were travelling North smack in middle of your big game fishing season down there. Keep the cool vids coming!

Fun tip for you!!! Next time you cook steelhead or salmon if you baste it with a good homemade barbecue sauce halfway through the cooking process and let it caramelize on the outside it'll be one of the best fish you've ever tasted!!!! By the way I'm from Washington and live in Oregon

I used to fish the Wilson, Clackamas, and Nehalem rivers and Barview Jetty in Tillamook in the late 70s.
Awesome experience from start to end. Hooking the fish feeling is unexplainable, and landing the fishing successfully is even more satisfying. Keep enjoying guys catching more bigger fish then this 😊🔥

That is truly a typical steelhead fishing day as far as weather. But, I wish fishing was that good everywhere in Oregon.
Great video, Vic! Love that this was something completely different than I've ever seen you do, AND that's my favorite type fish to catch, in my limited experience. If you ever go again, I have to tell you, from shore with a spoon or spinner is way more challenging but the thrill level is worth it. I'm sure you can imagine the hook set on those fish without all that slack in you line. Hey and if you're out here, it's a short trip to the cost for some lingcod. Anyway, keep up the good work, love what you do. Take care.
This time of year in Oregon the weather is very bipolar. Trained like crazy this last week and then sunny and 75° yesterday. Today, 50's and torrential downpours again. Really enjoy seeing you guys up here. Great content!!!

Not sure that river counts as "remote" though. LOL
Steelhead are Oncorynchus Mykiss.....classified as a salmon, not a trout. They USED to be classified as rainbow trout, Salmo Gairdneri. It doesn't matter that much, I blame growing up with a fisheries biologist.
I love that you guys collaborated with the addicted guys!! They put out some awesome content just like you! Next time though try salmon or steelhead on a fly or spey rod or a centerpin. It's a whole different type of feeling and excitement especially the pin!

Hey Vic I have a fish recipe for you season your fillets the way you want make sure the fillets are good and wet then dip them in mash potato flakes and fry them up kinda like havin potato with your fish

That trip looked amazing - and so did the fish!! I'm in NYC and although I lived in Florida for a short time in 81', I'm definitely a colder weather, mountain loving girl. I've eaten alot of yellow tail in FL, I've also had steel head and to me it tasted like a milder version of salmon, but I love it - and love your videos!! 😄🤗🗽💖🕊️🌹

That is Steelhead weather for you. That Oregon crew came over my way and they can probably attest to cold and snowy!!! I have fished many a January -10° day. We use old school flyrod "snakes" for guides so they don't ice. It takes a special kind of sicko to chase those fish.
We have a saying here in Oregon, "If you do not like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change." Have lived here for 70 years, it has always been that way.
Go fishing, be sure to take rain gear, cold weather gear and the ever-present thermos of hot coffee/tea and you just about cannot go wrong. Have never fished the Wilson, but have done Tillamook Bay for whatever we could catch and of course the good crabbing and clamming there. We always limited out.
Second time watching this episode, was surprised to see him throw out that nice looking liver, salmon and steelhead liver are rather tasty, fix they just like you would your fish. Dipped in egg, rolled in seasoned cornmeal, then fried in butter, not oil. Season the cornmeal with a little ground sea salt and pepper only, do not want to hide the flavor of the fish with a bunch of overpowering seasonings that actually hide the flavor of the fish. Guess I am just old fashioned in how I cook my fish.
