Juan Soto should be higher up on the list. Already on a HOF trajectory. Only 25 as you said. Yes, his cards are over printed, but that's true for plenty of those ahead of him.
Let me remind you of a few young guys "already on a HOF trajectory": Roger Maris, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Eric Davis, Jose Canseco, Albert Belle, Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, David Wright... Hmmm. What happened to those guys? I like Soto. Seems to me you're jumping the gun in casting his bronze plaque just yet.
@@dylanl3845 Mattingly was over 30 war after 6 seasons. David Wright was at about 29 after 6 seasons. Pedroia was at nearly 34 after 6 seasons. Andruw Jones was well over 30 war after 6 seasons and in fact still only age 25. Andruw may get in soon if people ignore his falling off a cliff at 31. He may not.
@@dylanl3845 I don't want to be a naysayer. Soto is on track to win the AL MVP this year. But he's only played 6 years. If you compare him to Andrew Jones, who also came up at 19, there is every chance Soto could break down by 30. If he does, he'll be on that unfortunate list along with Andruw. If he stays healthy, he could be Griffey Jr.
I also think edmonds should be in. 8 gold gloves. Defense is underrated, Homer's overrated. He hit 393 Homer's. He'd be in if he hit more even if his defense was weaker.
When you mentioned that the 18 Update is overprinted, I do agree however I'd also say its over graded. Compared to the print runs now , 2018 was still far less produced. There are too many parallels now.
Over the past decade of my collecting journey, I’ve had some pretty terrible experiences with BGS and BAS, including them grading and holdering not authentic cards, hairs in the holders, trimmed cards in 9.5’s, overgraded cards that won’t cross to PSA at a similar grade, etc. Have you had good or bad experiences with BGS/BAS over the years, or do you mainly stick to PSA (with an actual guarantee)? Would love to see a video on why PSA is the best choice for our valuable cards, if that is the way you feel. Thanks for your continued hobby content!
It’s a shame that modern baseball has devalued the starting pitcher. If you did a top 15 of 2000-09, you would have Verlander, Kershaw, Scherzer and Grienke.
Nowadays, it's just throw, throw, throw 97mph+ until your elbow joints fail and you need Tommy John surgery before your 28th birthday. We'll never see another Nolan Ryan.
I agree with both of these statements. The are a couple that could move up onto this list. It takes pitchers longer to gain value in the hobby overall. Hitters can show signs quickly as pictures l pitchers need multiple years to put up numbers. Gerrit Cole is one during this era that will make it. I think Dylan Cease, Strider, and Zac Gallen may could put up numbers to promote them but it will all depend on health, as with strider
Fun video. I predict all those Topps PSA 10 Rookies will be $25 or less in 10 years regardless of how their careers turn out. There’s just too many cards printed. The 2011 Topps Update Trout will be the only one worth more than $100 in 10 years, I’m guessing $125-200.
I'm just getting back into collecting. I'm an 80's kid, so all of my cards now are in the HOF. What would be the best way to find out who the top 10-15 players from 2000- 2023 are? Baseball, Football, Basketball. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks! Have a bunch of these (base) that will be going to PSA in the next couple of months. Rough estimated cost is about $0.16 per card raw. IMO Topps 2011 S1, S2 and Update is the greatest Topps set produced (quality of players RC's + card appearance) since the 1950's. Someone should do a deep dive into the set, parallels included...hint...hint. Have a great one!!!
At current pace Ohtani will be #1 by end of next season. The market can't pretend Betts or Trout could even fetch Ohtani's water bottle at this point..
Now is not the time to buy Trout. You will be able to get a psa 10 for under $500 if you wait. There is zero new demand for his cards. He is injured and will not play until next season. When people start selling him to buy QB's before he NFL season would be a nice time to buy. I do not see a reason for demand to spike on Trout unless he gets traded. Even when he gets in the HOF it wont spike enough demand to overcome the huge supply available.
Will be interesting to see who from this era is collected 20-30 years from now. Who will be the Griffey of the early 2000s - if anyone? Seemed like Trout was the guy but has been destroyed by injuries last several years. Really like Mookie but he doesn’t seem to get much hobby love given his accomplishments. Ohtani seems like the most likely candidate - though he has so many cards it will inevitably hold down values. Much more fun to collect than unproven QB rookies that cost hundreds of dollars. Anyways, fun players to collect given you can get many of their rookies raw for < $10-$20. Thanks for posting. Hope to see a similar video for 2000-2010 as guys like Ichiro and Pujols get closer to HOF enshrinement.

You could still pull a topps gold parallel in every 10 packs for example . Now those are practically case hits
You mentioned the Acuna card (and to a lesser extent Soto, Judge and Ohtani) being overproduced. I think a more accurate term is overGRADED. Not only are their pop counts sky high. The 9 to 10 ratios on them are inverted. In Acuna's case there are 11k+ PSA 9's and almost 23k PSA 10's. Which begs the question, when getting a PSA 10 will barely cover your grading fees and shipping, and getting a PSA 9 means you're taking a loss, _why do people continue to submit them?_
I don't feel they're doing it as much anymore, but two-three years ago when prices were peaking, it made more sense. It's the same with the pop count of 2019 basketball. The sheer number of Zion and Ja cards (and the trickle down from there) is equally baffling when you look at it through a 2024 lens.
Only bought 1 Target box of cards since 2009. I believe the following year, Fleer, Donruss and Upper Deck lost licensing to produce baseball, football and basketball cards. Exactly. There are as many Acuna/Soto/Ohtani cards in 2018 Update as there are Archie Bradley cards, but nobody's sending in the Bradley cards for grading. I still feel (generally speaking) there are fewer Update cards produced than Series 1 and Series 2 (think of how many complete sets there are) but definitely that warning about the sheer number of base cards.
