As of December’23, the 6Dii is about 2x the price of the 5Diii on the refurb sites I checked. 5Diii may have lost this comparison but it’s currently a terrific and great-value entry into the FF world.
It is somewhat laughable that an "older" tech camera isn't worthy of consideration "into the future". Let's see. Pick up any magazine from 5 years ago. I've got prints on my wall 36 x 24 shot with an XTI...hello? It is always about the image, not some tech specs. We have 2 images 3'x4' in the living room...shot with........a Canon A-10 point and shoot 7 mpxl. Everyone keeps chasing the technology. Back when the ID Mk IV hit the scene it was $5,000.00! Every Canon pro on the planet used that camera with stellar imagery from baseball to football to soccer to weddings to portraits...published worldwide. Now it is old tech....and supposedly not worthy. It is the CHEF not the PANS!
Awesome video! But you have to remember that for video you can install Magic Lantern in the 5D Mark III, and with that you can shoot RAW and 4K (in 21:9). So, for video I would go with the 5D Mark III all day
Thanks for the comparison, Jared. After years away from SLR photography, I'm here because I wanted to see someone's answer to this specific question because one of these bodies may become my purchase. It's fascinating to see that so many things haven't changed at all since the 70s and 80s (including the hair, lol?), as camera recommendations are still made based on "newer is better" and comparisons of a list of features and numbers. It's just like when I was buying my first Canon film gear in the early 80s. I'd love to see an honest comparison of image quality and dynamic range between these two bodies. I appreciate that there are fundamental differences in features, especially autofocus and video. But even I, the last guy in North America to shoot film regularly, know that pixel count isn't a tell-all measure of sensor superiority, and that a certain newer sensor isn't necessarily better than a particular older one. I've read that the 6D II has shadow or dynamic range issues at low ISO. So is the 5D III better in this respect? Does the 5D III exhibit lower noise? At what ISOs? Bottom line, what's the nitty-gritty answer about the photos (and to a lesser extent, the videos) these bodies will produce, under all conditions of light?
This is the comment I've been looking for. I shoot with a 70d and love it. Coming from an XT1. I just needed to know that the 6d mkii is a ff 70d. Sold.
I got 6dm2 on a bundle deal for $1700. Cash back of 300. Sold printer out of the bundle for 250. Got body plus battery grip plus fast SD plus lens filters for $1150. One should try out.
This video compares specifications, which we can do ourselves. It would have been great for you to do some side by side shoots with them both, to see how they fare in the real world. Thanks anyway
@@adetayoadegoke I would get the 6D. The 5DMkIII cost more than double, it's in a completely different league, while you won't notice that much of a difference in image quality, if you notice at all. The 5DMkIII has more focus points, but unless you are shooting birds in flight instead of people, this won't make much of a difference.
I'd choose 5d3 because to me video is important and I can use Magic Lantern with it. The video quality straight out of the camera from the 6d2 is nothing compare to the ML on the 5D3
I'd add 4 checkpoints to the 5D Mark III just because of ML. I loved it when I had my T5 and was deceived when I learned it wasn't available on newer cameras.
I own a 6Dmkii and I will say that this is a versatile and practical camera. I used to own a 5DmkIV. Love the flip screen and lighter weight of the 6Dmkii. I shoot video and don't find the lower bit rate an issue for youtube videos.
AyeEye Creation need your help..... I'm planning to buy the 6d mark 2, would you please tell me that it's really bad at low light photography?? Focusing is really a big problem? What about the dynamic range?
Hello. I came from a 5DmkIV, D750 and 6D background and I honestly do not feel that this camera lacks in low light focus. Yes there may be tests that it has inferior dynamic range at ISO 100 - 200 when comparing to the MKIV or Nikon cameras but that is really if you are to pixel peep and compare the images side to side. In practical usage, I find that the advantages I get from 6DmkIV is far more important then the slightly lower dynamic range at lower ISO. I use this camera for both photography and video and let me tell you that the video that comes out of this camera is amazing. I came from a SONY 6500 background as well so I am very aware of the difference between 4K and HD quality. But there is more to just clarity when it comes to good video. For professional work, I would suggest the MKIV due to the dual card and the 1/8000 shutter and faster flash sync speed. But for everything else, my honest opinion is that if you love flip screen, the lighter body, and don't mind having only one card slot, then this is a camera of great value. If you are into landscape photography and dynamic range is absolutely crucial for you then you might as well go for Nikon or Sony. Hope that helps :)
Here's a high ISO test I shot with my 6D Mark II. I shot this time lapse at ISO 10,000 and I bet you cannot tell it was shot that high. I have plenty of images as well because I generally shoot astrophotography. th-cam.com/video/IArjgrE5OSg/w-d-xo.html
I'm a bit unsure about using a DSLR for timelapses. Not referring to quality, but to how quickly you can kill the shutter with timelapses. If you go by the 300k mean cycle count for a DSLR, you get ~166 minutes of 30fps video. Or, considering that the average timelapse is around 30 seconds, 333 videos. Sure, I expect Canons to last a lot longer than the average DSLR, but this is one aspect where a Sony would be better.
I have a 5DmkIII, an 80D, and an even older 7D. I wouldn't invest in the 6D all things considered. Canon still needs to get it together though. I mean like wow me in the next two years. The D850 was a real flag in the ground for Nikon all over again. The 5DmkIV was close but they need to give up 4K on their DSLRs already. A person that gets a cinema camera is always going to get a cinema camera. If I was just shooting video I'd consider a C200 because C200.
Thanks Jared, this and the 6D MkII Real World review have been a big help while looking to upgrade my trusty EOS 60D and go full frame. Most of my Canon / Canon fit glass is full frame spec as I've always kept this a possibility when buying lenses. From a crop sensor to full sensor upgrade perspective, the controls and relative focus area of the 6D MkII are pretty much what I'm used to working with anyway. The Raw files have also been useful, keep up the good work.
More Focus points, dual card slots and the joysticks. I don’t care about the spec, I would take the 5d mark iii over the 6d mark ii any days of the week.
5DIII : AF, 8000shutter, joystick, 2 cardslots, price(2022) and i would say BUILD 6DII : Sensor, Image processor, ISO, FPS, Video, Liveview, EiS, Wifi/Nfc, vari angle LCD, weight
3:58 All-I and IPB is not about video clarity. it's about video compression. the difference is night and day. if you want color grade after shooting ALL-I is very important. IPB is useless for post-production.
Dude I bought the 6d mark 2 and seeing a 5d3 for sale for 800 bucks used so I thought maybe I should get it as an upgrade but after watching your comparison video you helped me make up my mind and simply save my 800 bucks and put it towards a canon 70-200 is 3 instead , thanks for letting me see the real picture why I shouldn't get that 5d mark 3.
Are we polishing a türd here? $2000 is a lot of money for a many of people, they will only spend that kind of money if the camera will fullfill all their needs and is not filled with old tech and curtailed on all corners just to make the flagship camera stand out a bit more just because Canon decided to hold back there as well. I hope Nikon will bring out a good replacement for their D750 soon to put pressure on Canon to step up their game as well. If you are not a pro you are probably better off buying a good APS-C body like the 80D than getting a mediocre full-frame body, if you are a pro you probably will go with a 5D series because of the better reliability and durability of these cameras.
People missed the point of the 6d mk2. Sure it was never going to be as complete as the 5d mkiv but it was meant to fill the gap between the 5d mk iii and the mk iv for people who want an accessible full frame camera.
Hey Jared, Wanted to say thank you for this video and your many others that have helped me build my kit in an economic and informed way. I was toying with the 5d series bodies for a long time but settled on an amazing deal for a 6dii this past month. Wishing you the best!
i know im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I love any tips you can give me!
@Gibson Colton Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Very helpful. I need to upgrade for professional photos but I also make sit down vlogs. The main issue with getting the 6D mark ii is the lack of microphone port! That is so important!
The 6D Mark II does indeed have an external microphone jack. What it _doesn't_ have is a headphone jack which is for monitoring audio. I don't think most (if not any) other DSLR's have that so it's a mute point. If one wanted to monitor the audio they were getting, it would make more sense to simply get a fancy audio recorder setup like the Zoom H5. If all you want to do is record audio with an external RØDE Microphone, this camera will let you do that just like any other good DSLR will. :)
idk why people bash on the 6d mk2... its honestly a good camera. as a vlogger, my MOST IMPORTANT features are 1)full frame 2)fantastic autofocus 3)selfie screen ... this checks all of it. I had a GH5 before but I sold it. not only are pics sub-par, but autofocus is just BEYOND horrible. I just couldn't use it. GH5 seems to be the best camera for the buck IF youre behind the camera. but as a vlogger, im in front of the camera most of the time so I need reliable AF
Super informative, Jared..... I wasn't even considering a 6D mkII, but after seeing this, it's definitely in the game..... I love my Canons, and will be using it more for video - same boat as most, the 5D mkIV is perfect, but too rich for my blood. I was between a 5D mkIII and a 1Dx.... Your content has been very helpful in my search!
you summed it up right at the end of this review....That the 2 cameras are not to be compared for the various reasons you mentioned. And the 6d mark ii is ideally for those of us who are just entering the world of full frame cameras. It is easier than any 5d to get used to. It was not made for the serious professional, however you can use it as such if you know how to get the best out of the 6d mark ii. I would not suggest that anyone who is NOT a pro go and invest in any 5d until they have mastered the art of shooting and have been using a crop sensor camera like the 70d or 80d. Finally, the pros versus the cons of the 6d ii versus the 5d are clearly s matter of if one wants them to be. Unless of course you are a pro...
Can't forget Magic Lantern on the 5D Mark III for video... also, having the joystick/better handling PLUS dual card slots is a big deal for me with the 5D...
I don’t get it my 5d iii has face detect autofocus. Why is no one talking about that s far as I am concerned it works the same as dual pixel af or please tell me the difference
Great comparison, I had this problem awhile back when 6D mark II was new and wanted to upgrade from my 5D mark II. But it ended up with spending more money for the 5D mark IV. That focus system on the 6D mark II really broke that camera for me.
I'm sold in everything with the 6d2. I've tried it but it's annoying how they changed up the top button layout when it comes to changing the iso.i thought I can compromise as a working photographer and I thought I could until I found it hard to efficiently change the iso. I'm an event photographer who shoots fill manual and I find it annoying that there is no button in the top of the camera to access the ISO switching. You have to pull it up in the touchscreen and that slows me down drastically. I've missed shots because if that. I hate it. That I've drawback has caused me to set aside my money for another 5d3. Even the Mirrorless m5 has a more efficient way to switch iso. Not much better but at least there is an external method to doing so. And the loading time of the LCD image previewing had taken as much 5 seconds. There's some flaws that keep me from buying this camera. I may even consider buying the 6d1 over it. 🤦🏻♂️
Bought a 6dii as a second camera to go with my 5diii. Sent it back to amazon and bought a used 5diii. To be honest I shoot next to zero video though. For a stills camera I would (and did) take a 5diii over a 6dii any day of the week. The slower sync speed, the slower shutter and the AF system is trash. They might as well stuck with 9 AF points rather than put 45 of them all clumped dead center of the frame. The old 6D had a better spread of AF points. On the plus side I really liked the touch screen but it was really the only redeeming thing it had over the 5diii and nowhere near enough to put up with the drawbacks over the 5diii.
I do not agree with the final decision. When looking for a full frame with limited budget, You should add the Canon 6D Mark I. Newer is not only better. The 6D Mark I scores better with high ISO values against these 2. Also dynamic range is better on the 6D mark I then 6D mark II and 5D mark III. You see newer is not always better. Yes the AF of the 6D mark I isn't good, but never gave me any problems, I used the Focus and Recompose Technique, but I agree this does not answer every-bodies needs. For landscapes and portraits I think I would advice the 6D mark I, and use the 800€ difference for a decent L lens.
It’s great to see a common sense opinion of the 6DII. I have the 5DIII and have no intention of upgrading at all, I still shoot a lot with a 5DII and only got the three because my tethering port broke. I don’t have any intention of upgrading my 7DII either when the new model is released. My cameras easily give me the A2 prints which are my maximum. If I was buying my first full frame camera I’d go for the 6DII purely because it’s a newer camera and even though I’m not into specs I appreciate it would be stupid to buy an older camera for more money. At the end of the day though it’s about the pleasure a camera gives you and the prints you get from it. I don’t understand the point of the vitriol bile the kids spew out in these comments, especially when it’s about what other people spend their money on.
the only reason i am not thinking updating to the 6Dmk2 is the focus system. i know that its a much better system than my 6Dmk1, but does it really worth it? as Jared said, its not the camera, is the photographer and how able he is to use his gear.
Christos Kataxenos this is absolutely true but after getting some great fast glass it's really fucking annoying missing all these shots wide open because the lack of AF points and being forced to focus and recomposed also leading to missed shots. The AF system is the most important part of the camera other than the quality of the sensor.
SageoftheSixPaths i am used to shoot with very little amount of focus points (canon eos 450D, eos 60D) and i didn't really had any problem shooting very low light sports and concerts on F2.8. I had a bit of problem with the 50mm F1.8, but i found out that it wasn't focusing correct and after i calibrate the lens on my 6D, i have never missed a shot. Of course i still have wet dreams from the time i shoot with my friend's 1Dx but thats an other story. i know what you mean, and i would like to have a better focus system on my camera(if the focus points on the 6Dmk2 were spread out it would be the best camera to upgrade for my needs, especially with the flip out screen that i really missed from my 60D when i am shooting on a very low angle astrophotography), but if you know your camera you can really shoot everything you like.
I'm new to this channel. I love it! I can't believe it took me so long to find it haha. You're so knowledgeable, and I've learned so much in a few weeks time. I appreciate your work!
If we talk about only the image quality, forgetting rest of things.. Then 5d mark 3 or 6d mark 2?? I have Nikon d5100 right now. Wanna upgrade for Portrait portfolio, indoor as well outdoors. And yes, I am Vlogger. But still forget about vlogging, Let's talk about only image quality. Will 6d mark 2 be good enough in front of 5d mark 3?
I found that there was no need for a joystick on my 80D as that touchscreen can be used to change focus points with my left hand thumb without moving my eye from the viewfinder. I expect this can be done with the 6DmkII. Actually works quicker than my 2nd hand 5DSR, that I bought instead of the 6DmkII. Those bunched up focus points swayed me away from buying the later. Keeping the 80D though!!
This video was helpful. After I get my Canon 80D I would like to invest in there 90D. I've always wanted a full frame camera and my art lenses will work better (effects will be more pronounced) on this camera and they are all EF mounts lenses.
Jared - Loving the videos but the recent ones have TONS of side-to-side eye movement and its very distracting as a viewer. May want to reconsider or refine the teleprompter set-up to reduce/ eliminate the rapid eye movement.
But... If i need to work in low light, and don t need: 6.5 FPS Touchscreen GPS And video I don t want to deal with ISO noise at 3200 as It seems to be... Wich camera i have to choose? 6d2 or 5d3?
I have read the article about comparision D6 m II and D5 m4 (not 3 but 4) with examples of pictures attached and i was amaised that quality of 6D was much better than 5D m4
As someone who had a memory card fail on a single SD slot body during a wedding shoot (luckily I was able to recover all of the files), no way in hell would I recommend anyone tackle a paid event with only a single SD card slot. 99% of the time, all will be fine, but when something does go wrong and you find yourself in front of a bride explaining that all her ceremony pictures are gone, you'll wish you went with the dual slot body!
Video specs are debatable if you count magic lantern getting you 14bit RAW DNG on the 5DMIII and all its other goodies, at least until someone finishes a build for the 6DMII. Surprised there was no mention of magic lantern at all since it's such a huge selling point
Thank you for this comparison. My original 6D died during a recent fashion show with an err 20 code. The Mark II looks like a great replacement even though we will probably still get the other repaired as a backup cam.
I have a Canon 5D mark III and I saw a Canon 6D Mark II for $1545, so it's really tempting to buy it. The focus points have me worried. I didn't like the change of the 5D's focus points to my 7D. I also went from 8.0 fps to 6.0 fps and 6.5 doesn't seem like a huge upgrade from that. I love my 5D. The picture quality is definitely noticable to my 7D but it's noticably slower. Anyway, your comparison review was very helpful. I might pick up the 6D Mark II so I have both.
If one is on a paid shoot or on a once and a life time vacation having one memory slot is a liability. Not sure how often memory cards go bad but they do. Been shooting for years and have never experienced it myself but am considering the law suit on a paid shoot if things go south.
The 5dm3 has a joystick which the 6dm2 doesnt but the 6dm2 does have a touch screen ... which I've found is quicker than moving a joystick around. Though as mentioned the AF points in the 5dm3 are much better situated anyway. Glad to see more review vids, man!
Hi Jared, I just buy a 6d mark 2 and find BIG PROBLEM that drive me crazy. Its Shutter mode button: Before to change shutter mode in all canon pro cameras You need to press DRIVE button and use the SECONDARY Dial (at 6d you can use both dials), BUT at 6dmk2 it changed - you MUST use MAIN DIAL. JUST MAIN DIAL. I often switch shutter modes and use it as second camera, so why i need relearn this just for 6dmk2? Its destroys all the habit that i use. Why they change this??? And other buttons like AF, ISO, metering mode works great with both dials like it was before at 6d. I think its just big mistake of one engineer, who just did not notice this. Can you give CanonUSA know about this problem for fixing it at next Firmware Update?
There's no need for that comparison. The D750 will win it easily. Canon is currently suffering a heat death of their own making. This is what happens when you're over confident and don't build for the everyday consumer. I'm saying this while I own three Canon cameras. No one is seeing Canon mess up as much as their customers are :(
Unless you are a full time working Pro, don't waste your money on either. A 5D mk1 or mk2 along with a good mirrorless like a GH2 is going to be more than you need. Spend more time learning the craft, not the gear. Cartier Bresson used a 1938 leica and only a 50mm lens.
Hi Jared! When you talk about memory cards it seems like having dual cards with redundancy isn't a big deal to you. Is it true? Because actually for me the fact that the 6d mark ii hasn't dual memory cards is a deal breaker, and I wanted to hear your thoughts about this =)
I was hoping Canon would go with dual SD's on the 6D2 (like Nikon do with the d610 & d750) so I could swap my 5D3s for one .... single card slot= no dice
What do you shoot? I.e. portrait or landscape etc. If I was starting over now I'd get the Sony A7, you can get one for about 7-800 dollars used. The 6D mark I is still going for about 1200 dollars and it has way less features. The only difference is that Canon has superior and much better range of glass as well as a better used market so you can get great lenses at great discount.
I'm not OK to put a checkmark to the Digic 7... In fact, the user dont have to take care of that. *if* the fps is better, this is related to the Digic 7 *if* it canmanage more megapixels, it is related to the Digic 7 *if* it has a better ISO, it is related to the Digic 7 etc. The digic 7 by itself is only the MEAN to get the performance. If they could have the same perf with a Digic 2, why not?
Great points but i think one problem is with the dimple on the 5d and the lack of on the 6d... the 6d has a touch screen you can use much faster than the dimple/nipple thing... great video once again tho fro!
I already have a canon 5D Mark IV but my backup cam is the Mark III, I was thinking in selling the Mark III and buying the 6D Mark II because of the touchscreen, vari angle and 1080 60fps.. I do a lot of video too.. should I?
Nice comparison but if I an shooting my kid playing tennis would 1/4000 better or 1/8000? Also like to do slow motion can 6d m2 give me more frames for slow motion?
The lack of dual card slots is the deal breaker for the 6D Mark II. Without it, doing weddings or key events are risky in case of a card failure. Chances are low, but still...
Indeed that is a valid point, although a person could keep removing cards and use about 5 different cards during the day, and at critical events just multiple cards and put them into the tiny Pelican case for cards. That way they don't keep all their images in one card basket.
More risk of having card issues if you're changing all day - E.g: Dropping them into grates, water, etc. Better chances just having 1 bigger card and not touching it.
bello! I just discoverd your Chanel and really like it. I would like to ask you something. I have been working shooting weddings dir two seassons with my 6D mark i and I love it. now I see I need another body because I want to start working with no zoom lens (35mm / 85mm) and because I need a back up if something happens to my camera in the middle if a wedding! Un this casa, what would hoy recommend? going with another 6D mark i because I already know it and love working with it, going yo next step to 6D mark ii or give a chance to the 5D mark III?????? by the way we do video too, but always try to use our cameras only for one thing, not the same camera for both photo and video. Thanks for your help!
Great comparison. I was wondering what the best SD card would be to shoot video, best buffer for photography, etc? I currently only use CF cards and if I switch to the 6d I want to be prepared. Thanks!!
One of the most useful features for me going from an entry level DLSR to a 5D3 were the custom controls. I wish he would had included that discussion.
As of December’23, the 6Dii is about 2x the price of the 5Diii on the refurb sites I checked. 5Diii may have lost this comparison but it’s currently a terrific and great-value entry into the FF world.

In this point, 5d3 is better
6d mark ii 😎💥
They're basically the same IQ, except the 6D Mk2 has 4 more MP and has less noise ISO 6400+. Not sure how the dynamic ranges compare though.
5d mark3 is better. But they're different
Where are you from originally Sammy, may I ask? Your surname sounds rather important to me
That exactly was my dilemma in the summer and I chose 5diii - two memory card slots was a must to me.

I also have a Canon 80D and I've come to realize this 6D mark II. Is almost a full frame version of the 80D with a higher ISO.
It would have been great for you to do some side by side shoots with them both, to see how they fare in the real world.

welcome to you tube , haha, I say this alot.

What lens do u have? :D
what about colors of RAW images? Is it at least as good as from 5D II? Thanks
When the 6D came out it also got a lot of bad reviews, and to this day you can't buy anything better for the price.
@@DeyvsonMoutinhoCaliman I'm trying to get one, do you think I should get the 6D or the 5D iii?

Will take my 6d mark 1 for stills I recently got new at an estate sale for 23.00 bucks. 😎👍

AyeEye Creation thank you so much for the reply.... It's really gonna help me. ☺️
Though, the main issue is that I'm a landscape photographer 😁
I read this comment and it's been two years....did Canon "wow" you? lols
5DIII : AF, 8000shutter, joystick, 2 cardslots, price(2022) and i would say BUILD
6DII : Sensor, Image processor, ISO, FPS, Video, Liveview, EiS, Wifi/Nfc, vari angle LCD, weight
Midway through 2021, I think there’s some really good potential for the 5D iii. I keep finding them used for as low as $700. Super easy choice for me.
@Ephraim Dominic Instablaster ;)
@Gibson Colton Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Gibson Colton it worked and I now got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out !
@Ephraim Dominic Glad I could help :)
Picking up my first full frame 6D MKII tomorrow after having a 70D. Can’t wait to see what she goes like 😜👍
Thanks for great review/comparison JP 👌
in the exact same boat. own a 70D for a couple years now and looking for 6D MKII now. any regrets?? thanks!!
It looks like it is been almost a year, I'm about to do the same from my 70D. Any thoughts on how it went?
SnarfBeats why are you considering the 6dii?
6D MKII wins, but I keep 5D classic and A7 ^^
idc what everyone says about the 6d mark ii, Canon 6D Mark ii FTW!!!!!!!
I like 6d mark II and going to buy it. Thank for your review
Bought a 70D on release, found it has a dead pixel on the sensor recently. This video convinced me to upgrade to a 6D MarkII.
Costs peanuts to have the sensor remapped - all gone the dead pixel. Most sensors have plenty of dead pixels from new.
I'll keep my 6D mark 1 for a few more years and get some more glass.
Thank you for clearing it up. 6d mark ii it is 😃👍🏼
idk why people bash on the 6d mk2... its honestly a good camera. as a vlogger, my MOST IMPORTANT features are 1)full frame 2)fantastic autofocus 3)selfie screen ... this checks all of it.
I think the 6Dii is quite an upgrade from my T3i.
you summed it up right at the end of this review....That the 2 cameras are not to be compared for the various reasons you mentioned.
This so perfectly answered the questions I had regarding these two. You literally validated every point in question. Thank you so much for this!
Yay camera reviews are back!!! More real world reviews too please of anything 😬😬😬
we're working on those. They take some time but we're getting there. Also have to wait for some new cameras.
Can't forget Magic Lantern on the 5D Mark III for video... also, having the joystick/better handling PLUS dual card slots is a big deal for me with the 5D...
And you forgot the most important thing, the wind tunnel test
I don’t get it my 5d iii has face detect autofocus. Why is no one talking about that s far as I am concerned it works the same as dual pixel af or please tell me the difference
Hello. I want 90D or 6DMII. Which is better for photography?
Great comparison, I had this problem awhile back when 6D mark II was new and wanted to upgrade from my 5D mark II. But it ended up with spending more money for the 5D mark IV. That focus system on the 6D mark II really broke that camera for me.
What was the problem with the focus system?
Can anyone explain to me what the difference in focusing points makes for realworld shooting? I'm an absolute amateur!
MrJustwatchin9 Ontheinnanets which camera do you normally use for photography?
I have 5Dmk2, 5Dmk3 and 6Dmk2 that 6Dmk2 with the worse color especially skin tone. If you don't shot much video, buy the 5Ds.
Wow this is the comments have been looking for
I do not agree with the final decision.
Biggest shortcoming of the 6D mark ii - only 1 card slot, unfortunately. But how did Wedding photographers deal with the 5D mark ii?
Right. Makes you wonder if it’s just another marketing gimmick.
the only reason i am not thinking updating to the 6Dmk2 is the focus system. i know that its a much better system than my 6Dmk1, but does it really worth it?
as Jared said, its not the camera, is the photographer and how able he is to use his gear.
Christos Kataxenos this is absolutely true but after getting some great fast glass it's really fucking annoying missing all these shots wide open because the lack of AF points and being forced to focus and recomposed also leading to missed shots. The AF system is the most important part of the camera other than the quality of the sensor.
I'm looking to upgrade to the 5D3 because the AF system is by far much superior.
SageoftheSixPaths
i am used to shoot with very little amount of focus points (canon eos 450D, eos 60D) and i didn't really had any problem shooting very low light sports and concerts on F2.8.
Lincoln Riddle welcome!!!
B. Christine thanks!
If we talk about only the image quality, forgetting rest of things..
Then 5d mark 3 or 6d mark 2??
I have Nikon d5100 right now.
Wanna upgrade for Portrait portfolio, indoor as well outdoors.
And yes, I am Vlogger.
But still forget about vlogging,
Let's talk about only image quality.
Will 6d mark 2 be good enough in front of 5d mark 3?
93 Rider a 6dmii is a way big step up from a nikond5100. I know because I own the 5100.
Great content and review! 👍🏼👍🏼
What if you have a mark 3 and wanted a second body. And can’t find any used mark 3s.
I'd save even more money and get the 6D MKI over both of those.
You always keep it real 👌🏾
This video was helpful. After I get my Canon 80D I would like to invest in there 90D. I've always wanted a full frame camera and my art lenses will work better (effects will be more pronounced) on this camera and they are all EF mounts lenses.
Jared - Loving the videos but the recent ones have TONS of side-to-side eye movement and its very distracting as a viewer. May want to reconsider or refine the teleprompter set-up to reduce/ eliminate the rapid eye movement.
The world trusts you mate.Your approval is my final decision .💖
Just what i needed to see. Perfect video. Thanks!
Great video dude!
Your videos help a ton, ty!
But... If i need to work in low light, and don t need:
6.5 FPS
Touchscreen
GPS
And video
I don t want to deal with ISO noise at 3200 as It seems to be...
Wich camera i have to choose? 6d2 or 5d3?
Always helpful! Thank you!
I just got the 6d mk II for 849$ brand new and this is including the Grip, and Pixma Pro 100 !!
Salvador Nobre Veiga where?
@@yaryyahaira it was a sale on adorama during black Friday... Camera, Pixma pro 100, grip, extra battery and 64 gb card and 13x19 photo paper luster
Surprised there was no mention of magic lantern at all since it's such a huge selling point
why is the 5d mark ii and iii more expensive than the 6d mark ii on amazon?
Thank you so much for this video. It was super helpful for exactly what I needed.
Thank you for this comparison. My original 6D died during a recent fashion show with an err 20 code. The Mark II looks like a great replacement even though we will probably still get the other repaired as a backup cam.
Raymond Isbill what happened with 20 error?
Thanks for sharing this info. Helpful, for sure
Please advise me, at this point I should buy 6D mareki or 5D mark iii. Thank you very much
I have a Canon 5D mark III and I saw a Canon 6D Mark II for $1545, so it's really tempting to buy it.
Its Shutter mode button:
Before to change shutter mode in all canon pro cameras You need to press DRIVE button and use the SECONDARY Dial (at 6d you can use both dials), BUT at 6dmk2 it changed - you MUST use MAIN DIAL.
Excellent work
Jared please hear us ,please do a comparison on nikon d750 vs 6d mark ii
omkar kulkarni +1
There's no need for that comparison. The D750 will win it easily. Canon is currently suffering a heat death of their own making. This is what happens when you're over confident and don't build for the everyday consumer. I'm saying this while I own three Canon cameras. No one is seeing Canon mess up as much as their customers are :(
yes we need this comparison please Jared
serious???
The D750 has the same BS AF coverage issue.
thank you dude Jared, ur information is helpful
Unless you are a full time working Pro, don't waste your money on either. A 5D mk1 or mk2 along with a good mirrorless like a GH2 is going to be more than you need. Spend more time learning the craft, not the gear. Cartier Bresson used a 1938 leica and only a 50mm lens.
@@jeevang7853 if you have to ask who that is, you are not a photographer
What camera are you using while standing at the desk to record yourself and what lens? Thanks in advance.
Hi Jared! When you talk about memory cards it seems like having dual cards with redundancy isn't a big deal to you. Is it true? Because actually for me the fact that the 6d mark ii hasn't dual memory cards is a deal breaker, and I wanted to hear your thoughts about this =)
Edoardo Legnaro Agreed.
Sal Alexander Canon would had just make it a little bit better
6D mark II has bluetooth. so you can pair it with your laptop, phone or any wireless hard drive that can backup realtime your photos for redundancy.
BudFox in raw? (If it does that its awesome, but I guess not. Or?)
I was hoping Canon would go with dual SD's on the 6D2 (like Nikon do with the d610 & d750) so I could swap my 5D3s for one .... single card slot= no dice
Without comparing the price tag. If I want to Vlog and create makeup tutorials which camera would give me nicer quality?
I will pick up the 6D ii any day with dual pixel af, wifi, touch screen on articulating lcd!!!
I would like to know what full frame you would recommend for someone buying their first one, no matter what brand
*if* the fps is better, this is related to the Digic 7
*if* it canmanage more megapixels, it is related to the Digic 7
*if* it has a better ISO, it is related to the Digic 7
etc.
I do a lot of video too.. should I?
Yes.
Nice comparison but if I an shooting my kid playing tennis would 1/4000 better or 1/8000?
Also like to do slow motion can 6d m2 give me more frames for slow motion?
I have a Canon 5d mark III for photos. And that's why it's better than the Canon 6d mark II.
The lack of dual card slots is the deal breaker for the 6D Mark II. Without it, doing weddings or key events are risky in case of a card failure. Chances are low, but still...
A. Haikal R
uslan
Indeed that is a valid point, although a person could keep removing cards and use about 5 different cards during the day, and at critical events just multiple cards and put them into the tiny Pelican case for cards. That way they don't keep all their images in one card basket.
More risk of having card issues if you're changing all day - E.g: Dropping them into grates, water, etc. Better chances just having 1 bigger card and not touching it.
absolutely
I hark back to the days of wedding photographers shooting film, where there was no redundancy. Imagine the anxiety of those days, terrifying.
Fun video, love the sarcasm
Great video btw. I would pick the 5D Mk3 based on the dual card slots alone.
Thanks!!
