  • This video shows the steps required to install the "always on" DRL (Daytime Running Lights) wiring harness made by MX5things on a fourth generation Mazda MX-5 Miata (2016 through 2023 - including ND1, ND2, soft top and/or RF variants). The specific car in this video is a 2020 MX-5 RF Grand Touring.
This harness allows the DRL LED lights to remain on all the time, even when the headlights or parking lights are turned on (essentially now functioning as fog lights). From the factory, ND MX-5's turn off the DRL LED's when the headlights are turned on. Even with this harness installed, the DRL lights will still function normally during the day when the headlights are off. MX5things offers the ability to reduce the DRL brightness to 50% or keep them at 100% brightness when the headlights come on; I opted for the 100% brightness option for the added visibility. If I find I am blinding other drivers, I will repeat this process to remove the jumper cable (installed by default) to reduce the option to 50% brightness at night. Below is a link to the exact harness I have in the video:

@@lexus12 yes, I've kept it at 100% brightness and prefer it that way. The lights are low enough to the ground that I haven't found it an issue for other drivers, and I love having the extra light to illuminate the ditches. Looks great as well!
