7'x16' - Cargo Trailer / Toy Hauler / Camper Conversion -- Walk Thru / Demo

  • This is a quick walk through of how I chose to outfit my cargo trailer and convert it into a toyhauler / camper. It's a 7x16 trailer with 7 foot tall interior to accommodate the beds a little easier. I can easily fit my ATVs and Dirt Bikes with ease. I was certainly on a budget and a time crunch for this build, so I aimed for a cheap, easy, and quick build.

    Nice setup. I think you are selling yourself short on your craftsmanship. It all works and nothing is leaking nor on fire. The 7 foot interior height was a good call. I wish I would have thought of it when I brought my trailers however I was pressed for time and had a limited budget. At the time, I had no idea of the ways one could outfit a cargo trailer. I had no idea I would have so many bikes as well. Keep up the good work and keep posting your revisions.

      Thanks, Ralph. It did come out basically like I'd hoped it would, but there are some straight up professional grade conversions out there on YT!

    I loved your cheap easy and quick ideas for a nice camper/hauler! We just purchased a used 24 ft unit that we will follow some of your ideas. DM

    Functionality over anything else. That is all that matters. If it works for you, that's it! Good job.

    Real nice and enjoyable video presentation. You're in inspiration to keep it simple at the beginning and improve only as you really need to. My old back may need a different bed system. Thinking about a pipe and cable lifting mechanism like a boat lift powered by a manual boat trailer winch. So many of these builds are over the top. Thanks for the simplicity.

      Thank you! I'm not going to lie, if I had the skills to do an over-the-top build I'd be tempted to do so lol.

    Sweet setup! Couldn’t make it out, but if you aren’t already, you really should run Goodyear or Carlisle radials. Do not trust the super cheap tires most manufacturers put on from the factory. Also, definitely pull those wheels and check for adequate grease on the bearings.

      Yeah will do, thanks for the tips. I know these have earned the nickname "china bombs" for a reason.

      I've had great luck with maxxis m8008 trailer tires. Had a set on my trailer for 15 years before they started cracking in the tread area. On my second set now.

    I'm doing something very similar but using vertical e track so beds can be any height.

      that's a great idea. Ultimate adjustability and you can compensate for any uneven terrain by adjusting the bed.

    Was contemplating the same thing.. I have the 2020 Toyota Tacoma of road with a Old man Emu extra heavy load suspension. How does yours tow.. Really wanted the 7ft height inside. 6 would probably give me cabin fever. Thanks for the vid man..

      I just traded in my 5th gen 4Runner for this Tundra. I did tow this trailer loaded with my machines using that 4Runner. I took it and a bunch of camping gear about 2 and 1/2 hours into the mountains of West Virginia. It's certainly did it, but the engine was pretty high in the RPMs even on moderate grades. This tundra pulls extremely strong with the trailer behind it. I actually prefer this turbocharged engine over the older naturally aspirated 5.7 V-8 for towing because the with this one you get peak torque at 2400 RPMs. It's just a completely different experience compared to a naturally aspirated engine. I think that old 5.7 made peak torque around 4100 RPM give or take. I recently did a similar towing experience but only went about 200 mi and the truck rarely ever saw above 2500 RPMs even pulling at highway speeds in traffic. She just purrs and pulls like a freight train.

      Honestly anyone you know with some basic carpentry skills can do it. The trickiest part is measuring so you are between the studs and then just taking your time with the jigsaw blade. I watched a few videos on TH-cam on how to do it and that gave me enough confidence to try.

    What size dimensions are your beds

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I honestly forget! I got these off amazon. All the lengths were 80 in, the widths varied from about 34 - 60 based on whatever size bed you get.

      @dakotaracebrown 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve looked at every different bed build. I still come back to your video. I like yours the best.
      60x80 how heavy is that one do you think.

    • @ThomperBeThompin
      @ThomperBeThompin  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I honestly cannot remember. You definitely have to be able-bodied to handle the beds I built, but they were decently easy for me - average guy, average build. I used 1/2 in plywood and 2x3s for the supports on the bed. This kept the weight down.
