  • Sam and Cheru male lions of the Nairobi national park find some young sub adult lions in their territory and are not very happy about it.
Nairobi National Park is a national park in Kenya that was established in 1946 about 7 km south of Nairobi. It is fenced on three sides, whereas the open southern boundary allows migrating wildlife to move between the park and the adjacent Kitengela plains. Herbivores gather in the park during the dry season.
A short drive out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park. Wide open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recordedFilmed in Nairobi national park

Definitely the son of one of those males and lioness. Lioness don’t tolerate trespassers either so the fact that only the males went after the young guy and gave him a slap on the wrist pretty much tells the story.
He’s either being kicked out or was kicked out before but is trying to hang around still. You can even kind of tell it in his vocalizations. It’s more of a whiny roar that offspring make toward adults rather than a roar meant to try to intimidate or sound scary.
He’s just a young adult getting kicked from the pride.

The female could have been traveling with the young males and obviously was or the males would not have to check out if she was in estrus or not . Young females often leave with their brothers and become nomadic and return once they are old enough to breed. As they would have been killed too. Right now that is happening in 2 Prides I watch . Where the young subadult females are traveling with the young males and a particular lioness that left to save them and teach them skills necessary.

Sadly you're probably right. In a few years, these youngsters will be fully grown, at their most powerful and will easily oust their father/s from the territory. Mating with their female relatives and further weakening the genetics😔.

It looks like they are and being kicked out of the price. The lioness who is probably their mom took adult males attention away giving the sub adults to escape. They will try to hang in the territory a little longer since it’s less risky than facing adult male lions from other pride. They do look well fed and will most likely form a coalition if they survive for another season
