Thanks for sharing. Honestly saved me a massive headache of trying to figure out how to get to the trailer socket (i didn't know it dropped down)

Hey, I know this is 2 years old video but I am having a problem removing that cover cap. It is stuck, no matter what I do or how hard I pull down, it won't move. Any ideas how to take that cover cap off?

    Thanks!
By the way, I have the same design on my towbar on my Skoda Octavia and I need a new pair of keys.
Do you know the key ID on your keys? Maybe I can find a new pair then.
    Thanks!

Took me some time to figure it out.
      1) Turn the key so the tab points upwards (same position as with removal).
      2) Press the little button firmly.
      3) Pull the lever downwards. This takes some force.
      4) Attach the tow bar to your vehicle
Note. step 1 to 3 can be done in preparation. The bar does not yet need to be placed into the socket.

@SatnavSystems Thank you for sharing the video, but that is only half of the required instructions as you showed how to put the towbar OUT.
@@SaKa682 Thank you very much for sharing the instructions on how to place the towbar IN .
In my case, I got the towbar out of the car and I could not put it IN. After watching the video I spent some time and could not figure it out.
The problem was that my key was 180º rotated comparing to the video, so I was trying the preparation on the blocked position.
I was getting a sweet wtf moment 😅.
The point is that the key can NOT be removed in the unlocked position, so I suggest to change point 1) of Sanders info to the following:
      1) Insert the key and turn 180 (now you can not remove the key - so it is unlocked)... continue with next steps.
Now I can put and remove "easily". At least is a robust system once I figured out how to.👌🤟

@@SaKa682 Thank you so much for this! Was doing my head in. Took it down to the dealer and was going to take it back so that a service tech could show me how to put it back. This saved me a trip and time!
For those trying to push the lever, it requires _quite a lot of force_ to move the lever (once the key is in the unlocked position AND you are pressing the interlock button). It moves down with a firm pressure and stays there until you push the hook back into the socket, when it releases and clicks back into the locked position. Remove the key and you're good to go.
The little cover for the socket has gone missing so i might look for one at the dealer / ebay so the grease doesn't get cruddy. I'll keep the towbar on until i can source one. It DOES look a lot nicer without the bar though :)

Hey, I have the same towbar on my 14 superb, but it won't detach. The lock cylinder has been removed. The safety button have been tried to push in but won't budge, can you make a video on that perhaps?

On a new one the lever is really and i mean really stiff. Try to turn the key as in this video and really push down on the lever (while depressing the button)

I can I see the install in? Because I have problems with in

    • @martinnauk4043
      @martinnauk4043 ปีที่แล้ว

To install the towbar IN - There are 3 balls that do not allow the insertion of the towbar, you need to release the mechanical system by following this instructions:
      1) Insert the key and turn 180º (now you can NOT remove the key - so the lever is unlocked)
      2) While pressing the little red button firmly inside, pull the lever downwards. This takes some force... until you hear a "clack" sound. The 3 big balls on top of the towbar now can go inside, they are released (on the video you see the detail when they remove the towbar)
      3) Remove the plastic protective cap on the hole at the bottom of the car before inserting the towbar
      4) Attach the towbar to your vehicle, simply insert the towbar and you will feel a "clack" snap sound and the towbar is fixed. Just assure by pushing the towbar downwards.
      5) turn the key 180º (lever is locked) and put it on a good place with the plastic cap (this cap is used when you remove the towbar OUT to avoid dirt)
      good luck mate!

I've got the same issue with my skoda. Did you resolve it? I've just left mine in the boot with the key left in it.

    • @danielmahood7280

The key definitely can be removed when the tow bar is detached. It’s difficult but if you offer the towbar back up to the car, wiggle it and the lever, the lever should spring back into its normal position allowing the key to be removed.
It must be a design flaw of the lever and lock.
