  • @hauntedbytheliving1175
    @hauntedbytheliving1175 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    The color issue... I believe that the flat “yellow” look to the 4K is due largely to the speed booster. I’m not saying they are identical without the speed booster but WAY closer. At least the stuff I’ve gotten a chance to see that used both(friends projects) a skin tone test on the 4K with and without speedbooster would be awesome

    • @curtisjudd
      @curtisjudd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@julianburrus9956 It's workable except for extreme close-up shots where you still need to capture sound. Also, my first copy had a defective fan. I sent it back to the retailer and they sent me a new camera. I don't see it as a complete deal-breaker, I just prefer cameras that shut down their fans while recording. Many of the bigger cinema cameras do this now - shut off or slow down the fan substantially while recording.

    • @Leo9ine
      @Leo9ine 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@julianburrus9956 I have the 6K and I'm an audio guy at heart. In an average silent-but-untreated room, you need to be inches away to hear the fan (with an ear or a microphone). I could only imagine it being audible in a dead silent treated studio where you're recording macro video with the mic on the camera. Even then, it's a very consistent low frequency and would be easy to filter in post. I worried about the fan noise too, until I actually got it in hand. The fan noise in the video is *severely* boosted, it makes it sound like a vacuum cleaner. In reality it's essentially silent and nowhere near such a high pitch.

    @denny_nguyen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    There's already a full frame speedbooster for the 6K on the market - LucAdapters magicbooster - also adds a better IR Cut Filter and will have clip ND filters in the future. This makes shooting in 5.7K kind of attractive, because the field of view will still be wide, you can shoot 60fps, record in 3:1 and have a better rolling shutter time.

    • @TrentsMullet
      @TrentsMullet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Denny could you please elaborate on why you’d shoot 5.7K rather than the full 6K?

    • @denny_nguyen
      @denny_nguyen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@TrentsMullet Afaik there is still no card on the market that can shoot 3:1 Raw on 6k with 50fps. However, you can shoot 3:1 and 60 fps on 5.7k with a Samsung T5 (although the data rate shouldn’t be substantially lower, but it seems to be enough). So higher frame rate, better compression rate. When your finished product will be 4k, which it will be in most cases, then 5.7k is still good enough for getting crispy oversampled 4k or doing crop-ins and I bet you won’t be able to tell a difference, if I upscaled to 6k. Also the rolling shutter is reduced from 19,8ms to 16,3 ms and by that pretty much on par with the BMPCC 4k. So what’s there not to like? Maybe that the crop factor increases from 1.558 to 1.692. Well, put the magicbooster behind the lens and you are on 1.2 and gain 1 stop of light.

    • @katlis
      @katlis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have a LucAdapters "magic booster" (0.71x focal reducer) for my Pocket 6K. Absolutely love using it with my set of Zeiss ZE primes, and I can unscrew the focal reducer glass by hand whenever I want. By the way, if anyone wants one, Luca is very responsive on Facebook (just search LucAdapters). And I agree, shooting 5.7K is the way to go as it's such a nominal FOV loss with much better rolling shutter.

    Hi
    , thank you for your great videos!!! If I just start in filmmaking do you recommend the BM 6K or something more like Sony A7iii? Is it really difficult to pull the manual focus or it is just a matter of a bit of practice???
    Thanks!!!

    • @achumurali8183
      @achumurali8183 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get the practice by using a film city follow focus gear. If you are doing filmmaking it will probably come down to how you choose your shots. For example I always put it on a tripod. And handheld will be as less as possible. So I hope you get the gist. If you are not bothered with the learning of filmmaking as a cinematographer I would suggest bmpcc. So boils down to comfort

    The 4K fan might be quieter, but it might also be ineffective. A friend took a BMPCC 4K out to the California desert to shoot a narrative film (i.e., actors and sound) and it shut down in the heat. I'm working on a film now using a BMPCC 6K and it is having no trouble shooting in the Los Angles summer. Caveat.

      My Panasonic Gh5 2 doesn't overheat, neither does the GH6. And i dont need no stinking speed booster. There's no crop on these cameras in ANY mode, so the hell with Black magic cameras.

    We shoot with several and the 6k wins every time! Even grading is much harder on the 4K, especially to get it to match the 6k

      How do you get a canon lens to fit? I don’t know which mount to buy. I don’t know if I need an adapter or speed booster. I’m new to this.

    • @jaykudie
      @jaykudie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@luz3793 You need either an ef mount to m4/3 or if you want to reduce the crop factor then you get a speed booster, there are different ones depending on what amount of crop factor you want. "18-35mm on the BMPCC 4K will apply a 1.9x crop. Giving us 34-66mm. The Metabones Speedbooster will give us a .71x crop, bring our final output to 24-47mm."

    I'm happy with my 6k and bought it at regular price. To solve the battery issue, I use a dual NPF battery plate with a dummy LPE6 to have continuous power on long shoots. I only got 10-15min on the included LPE6 battery. Lol The 6k is super helpful for faking slider shots in post without losing quality. I also got a full license of Davinci Resolve with my purchase. Never having to pay subscription fees to use software was another big selling point for me.

    • @ANewThingLondon

      how did you get the davinci resolve?

    • @vincentvergara2728
      @vincentvergara2728 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ANewThingLondon You get a free code when you buy a Blackmagic camera. I actually ended up trading in my bmpcc 6k for an S1h because I had to send it in three times for a power control board issue. The image quality of the bmpcc 6k was better, but I got tired of hauling batteries and the lack of image stabilization made handheld shots too shaky (even with IS lenses).
