    wow, lucky tagalong hikers are the two who got to go with you, first time, just incredible once in a lifetime stuff. Am a fan of your channel for years, the content you film, Utah is truly a giant National Park. Your videos are such high visual quality, makes rewatching ANY of your videos a pleasure. Thankyou so much Jamal for all your years of content, and for sharing it.

      Thanks! I know I sound like a wimp, but any time the temps get close to freezing I'd rather be indoors! 🥶 With the proper gear cold-weather backpacking isn't that terrible -- but I like going lightweight and enjoying those balmy 50-degree nights. 🌞👍

    Yeah!! It's Jamal!! What a wonderful surprise to see you pop up on our feed tonight! Always wanted to hike the entire Boulder Mail Trail ever since we day hiked it in from Hwy 12. Got to where it dropped into Death Hollow, looked down and said to ourselves, we don't need to hike all the way down AND back up that today. So had a snack, enjoyed the view and went back to camp. Thanks so much!!! PS: liking the purple shirt. You should add it to your hiking wardrobe.

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! Feel free to ping away -- but really nothing too tough re: navigation here as it was just the eastern portion of the Boulder Mail Trail into Death Hollow. In spring I headed south from the Slickrock Saddle area back to the river and along the way there appeared to be a better/more-direct route into Sand Creek but I didn't check it out. I've read that that upper section of Sand can be pretty brutal with brush and one section with deep pools. BUT... that could still be fun! 😉✌

    Wow! Thanks for such a great video of the Death Hollow hike. I've always wanted to do this hike and had an opportunity many years ago, but from the description the hike leader gave me, I was pretty sure it would be just a bit beyond my capability. It was the poison ivy that decided it for me! I would love to know how you handle the poison ivy. Looked like it was unavoidable. It was so gorgeous down there. Thank you so much for letting me see it.

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Awesome -- glad you enjoyed the video! I'm lucky in that poison ivy has never affected me even though I walk right through it. I don't think the variety here is that potent -- otherwise there'd likely be more people complaining about it. I realize it's anecdotal evidence -- but I only know one person to have gotten it along this route despite its abundance. I think the worst of it can be avoided by walking in the water in a few spots though. Thanks for watching! 🌞✌

We just spent a few days in Valley of the God's showing our friend from Wisconsin around then on to Lake Powell for over a week and a half. We drove up the Burr Trail Switchbacks two different days. Had lunch in Boulder and went to the Singing Slot Canyon. We took a back road that went by Star Springs Campground and came out on the Burr Trail on our second trip. Boy that's some desolate country. Another awesome video, Jamal! thanks for sharing. Last spring, we were supposed to spend four days in Escalante. We cancelled this stay after reaching the area an found it under 6 inches of snow. At that time, we planned to do a long day hike exploring the upper part of the Boulder Mail. After looking at your video, we definitely try again during our next trip in March 2024. Hopefully. Now, any hope to look at the Vlog of your last long hike (I'm still holding back from watching the long version video of your last long hike so as not to ruin the punch of the upcoming Vlog video series. Still planned, I hope?)

Unfortunately I got hit with a bunch of distractions over the last few months and didn't get the episodes out as planned -- but they are definitely still coming! The overview video does "spoil" the big picture for the hike, but in many ways it's just a teaser because so many "stories" from the hike are glossed over. It's kinda like a under-two-minutes-per-day highlight reel set to music! BUT.. if you continue to hold off, it shouldn't be too much longer now (mid-January is very likely at this point.) Stunning! I was in the Escalante are for the Eclipse too and it another stunning place. I have a question! Assuming you exited Death Hollow on the BMT exit to see the eclipse, from where you entered to where you exited in the morning, how was that short portion of Death Hollow: very brushy and/or poison ivy heavy? Thanks! I've been living through your videos until my next return to Utah from across the pond.

    • @Acrossutah
      @Acrossutah  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Yes -- we exited temporarily via the western section of the BMT. The short stretch between the two points isn't that bad in terms of brush -- though there are a few spots where one needs to walk in the water to avoid the thickest of it. I'll show a bit more of this stretch in my upcoming extended episode for my Grand Escalante Loop series.
