I like your style of review Joe 👍...I also own a tsa-102 and haven't found any other scope (including taks own fs-102) better for its aperture..

this was very informative. It highlights the differences between the instruments, and especially the advantages of cooling time for a refractor. There are lots of comments on cloudynights about a 5 inch MAK vs 4 inch APO, but this is a nice explanation of differences. I wonder how the MAK would do against other 100mm triplets like Skywatcher. 25% is significant.

well against a skywatcher it would be much much closer. the tak is considered to be the best like (AP) as well. sometimes on the forums people are guessing i read on there like a month ago a guy asked if he should get a tak 4" or the Sw evostar 100. several comments was the tak is only gonna beat it by a few % or its at the high powers that the tak will slowly move away.
I hear people say I "assume" i "think" or i "guess" BUT they couldnt be more wrong.
I did a video called tak vs the SW 100 and its wasnt small % it was HUGE%. As i say in the video even in a 2" 32mm EP i could easilly see a difference and thats as low as you can go.
So on those forums people guessing doesnt help you really need people who really did the 2 scopes side by side. I know it can be hard to own every kind of scope to compare but there are people like me that done the test.
Why not ask them who did it alreday?
anyway as per your question if its a lower quality apo like SW, evostar, the 5" mak would be really hard to to tell any difference.joe

Nice review Joe..I found the SW maks a bit better than these Meade/ explore optically just were clearer esp 127 mak with Schott glass was better than my etx 125 observer so sold, but still not up to my TS 130 which is Tak like.. I was going to do sinilar review on II SPACE IN OZ .Cheers

i agree the ts 130 would be hard to beat, but thats the joy of testing them out you really never know what may happen sometimes its different then we think. thx for watching

The TAK is better. But... it is $3000 better? ... NO.

Well you’re correct it is a lot more expensive but take into consideration I am only comparing 102 mm refractor to 127 mm Mac, which is a big difference
Most people will agree that a Mac comes as closest possible to a ED or apo refractor so I test them both out.
I don’t think it always has to be the exact same thing to test otherwise, that would be pretty boring

@@deepspacehunter yes it did really well for its price point. The take was sharper but this is why i like doung real hands on comparisons as you never know what will happen
