I hope you enjoy it! I will say... my one recommendation is that you watch the OP and ED that goes with each episode, every time. in season 2 especially, I think they're just so well suited that it robs the show of some of its message when you don't have them there as a sort of story refrain. depending on the changing context, they'll hit you a little different every time.
I wouldn’t say peak as in the best ever but it’s up there for sure. The music is also always good. For me Vinland Saga might be my top 5 anime and I haven’t read the manga but compared to other stories I’ve read manga only Vinland saga might be top 10-15.
Vinland Saga over Chainsaw Man all the way. I've seen both, both are great, but Vinland Saga evokes so much more emotion and follows such a captivating story, plus visually and auditorily there is so much care put into it. But of course, they’re totally different anime with totally different audiences, both of extremely high quality just in different ways. I just personally find Vinland Saga to be better
Vinland saga has so much love put into it, I went into it because I like Viking settings (Last Kingdom is really underrated) and got way more than I expected to
FYI if you watch this (you should, it's one of the best in the medium) don't search up character names on google, most were real people, including the MC and you can be spoiled about stuff regarding what's only now being touched upon in the manga in relation to his historical relevance.
Well, it’s not quite the case. The VS story is still different from a real historical events. In reality Thorfinn never was a viking, he was just a merchant, farmer and sailor. He never participated in any wars, he had nothing to do with danish king, jomsvikings etc. And real life Thorfinn should be 10 years dead already, but in the manga he is still alive. So I don’t think that googling Thorfinn will spoil you anything besides him reaching Vinland and having a wife named Gudrid. The same goes with Canute
It's difficult to describe how good this series is. The manga art is breathtaking, and the adaptation is very faitful to the manga. It's one of the only anime I can recommend to friends who haven't watched an anime before, and they'll absolutely love it just like any other show. Will be here if you choose to watch it
Its so good man. Ive never sat down and watched an anime on my own before and im 27 years old. I started in the morning one day, and i literally binged the entire first season in one day and felt so many emotions lol.
I literally just finished season 2 a minute ago. Vinland is such a masterpiece. It's one of the few pieces of fiction that I can say "changed me". Not in any dramatic sense, but it's something that will stay with me for sure. I can't wait for season 3 and beyond.
you should DEFENITELY watch Vinland Saga if you like deep and well developed series, i think (like 95% of the anime community) that Vinland Saga is just a masterpiece that represent perfectly the 1000d.c. with the vikings age. But after that u have to watch Chainsaw Man too
This show is a top tier written show, but it is also kiind of tricky. While is very emotional with incredible characters, it is also a slow anime. The payoffs of character development are one of the best I've seen in anime, but again it is an anime that demands a bit of patience to watch.
It's just two seasons now, because season 2 finally came out. The series has a LOT of detail, so animators from WIT(who moved to MAPPA to do season 2, because of funding), worked their ass off. This series is VERY historically accurate. Right down to the names of the people who lived. Season 1 is just the prologue. The second season takes a shift in tone and is more focused on character development.
They both excel in their own aspects of the themes they portray. I’m a big time manga fan, with Berserk obviously being number 1 and Vinland being number 2, but honestly I’d probably put CSM at 3 or at the very least top 5 mangas for me. Personally I just love all of the works of Tatsuki Fujimoto
definitely start vinland saga before chainsaw man. as someone whos caught up on the manga vinland saga is without a doubt close to perfection when it comes to storytelling and character building
Chainsaw main is really really good, but Vinland saga is one of the few animes I’d suggest over it. It might even be my favorite anime in general, highly recommend you react to it
2:07 when i first watched vinland saga i literally started the first episode and had to pause and download the opening, it just captivates you immediately
Actually at the moment you'd only have to watch 41 episodes to catch up, since the 2nd season is still ongoing. Manga it's based on is also ongoing, although in it's last arc (last big stretch of the story). Currently we have enough material for another 24-episodes season, which I hope happens ^^ VS in general is a story of war, showing how bad war is; of revenge, showing how bad revenge is, of slavery - showing how it is to be a slave and freedom and self-discovery. Some philosophy there too. I think it's more or less up anyone's alley.
the hero and villain aspects swap around each half of the season. basic premise is Thorfinn (our first MC) is on a quest for revenge against a Viking captain named Askeladd (who becomes our 2nd MC). Askeladd has his own history and motives that make viewers connect with him
Vinland Saga has the best opening songs as well as the ending songs. I love them all and your reaction is amazing too. I was wondering if you could watch the opening of The Seven Deadly Sins and Fire Force as well. It's so beautiful and I think you'll love it..؟!
The story is many times more interesting in the Vinland Saga than in Chainsaw Man. Many of the characters in the Vinland Saga are real people, including the protagonist. The story is quite faithful to historical facts.
I’d say watch chainsaw man first since it’s a quicker and shorter series at the moment so you can really focus on it and then enjoy Vinland saga on its own
I believe the respect for Vinland Saga will only keep growing in the next years. I'm not sure I'd put it in any GOAT debates but certainly right up there with the very best anime tv shows.
Vinland Saga is an incredible anime. Let me just say this, I’m NOT into Viking history or lore and wasn’t going to watch it because of that…decided to watch it anyway just as a change of pace…turns out…it’s probably my favorite anime made in the last 5 years…the character development and world building of this show is masterfully executed… And one thing that I found amazing is Thorfinn (MC…blond boy) actually goes from one of the least interesting characters in the show in Season 1 to by far and away the most interesting character in Season 2. It’s really one of those shows where it’s hard for me to pinpoint any flaws with it. Everything about it is great…perhaps if there is a flaw, it’s that they (Japanese dub) don’t really do a good job of showing the language barriers between the English, Welsh, Danish and French (primarily a season 1 problem since season 2 primarily takes place in Denmark). Essentially, all the characters are speaking Japanese, but there are Danish trying to communicate with French and Welsh and are supposed to have a hard time “communicating,” but since both sides are speaking Japanese, you lose that immersion a bit. However, that is a really small nitpick of the show. Everything else about it is downright phenomenal.
i mean, for views, definitely react to Chainsaw Man first. Vinland Saga is really more like a treat to yourself and your soul and your emotions and your feels 😅, really the 2nd season solidified it as my top 5 anime ever.
7:15 love how confused Askeladd and his relation to Thorfinn makes you but it’s very understandable. Also thumbs up for recognizing that the „guy with the long hair“ is actually a guy. Many take him for a girl when they see the openings.
Vinland Saga is undoubtedly one of the best Japanese anime ever! It's not at all inferior to Attack on Titan. Of course, each has different pros and cons. Personally, Vinland Saga is more than an anime, it's one epic life story. Life isn't always exciting and dramatic. There will always be happy times, difficult times, stagnant and quiet times, exciting times, different times. But all those times are what you need, and that's life. How beautiful and emotional story….. Also, people who prefer simple stories and flashy action may not like it.
the first 2 seasons pretty much cover half of the manga which is currently in its 4th and final arc so the entire show will probably be under 100 episodes
There's an unfortunate amount of CSM slander in these comments. Both series are masterpieces, and both series are completely different. It would be hard for me to say that one is better than the other because of those differences. I'm also gonna go out on a limb and guess that many people in the comments have only watched the 12 episodes of the CSM anime and haven't touched the manga.
