Seaweed is Vegan and the best source of iodine. The vegan diet is also short on a few other nutrients, research it. Also consider selenium, it works synergistically with iodine in the thyroid and brain. 1 brazil nut a day is all you need. Also vegan.
By any chance do you live in the midwest or norther area by the great lakes? They are the worst areas for low iodine in America.

Fish (such as cod and tuna), seaweed, shrimp, and other seafood, which are generally rich in iodine

There is no iodine in dried seaweed.

Iodized salt has enough iodine to only avoid goiter.
That is nowhere near enough a healthy level.

Dr. Aspires, WOW!! I can't Thank You enough for your channel I am a new sub😊!! I have always done some type of research on any natural, or drugs my primary doctor wants to put me on. "Drugs scare the hell out of me"!! But you Dr. Aspires you are literally a blessing with your "ON POINT" information, and the way you deliver that info in such a caring and loving manner, you absolutely care about people, and that is a rare trait!! Now a days I go to the doctor and I call it conveyor belt health care, it's all about the money not caring or helping people, extremely sad. And doctors won't tell you the side effects of the poison they prescribe, not all medicines are bad. I have metabolic syndrome no doctor has ever tackled, not even endocrinologist. So Thank You SO much for your channel, it's a breath of fresh air!!❤

My 89 year old mother lives in Hawaii and she is a stage-4 CKD patient, so she does not use any table salt, and can't chew any seaweeds due to her dentures. Sh has been complaining about chronic fatigue and excessive hair loss more than the usual when she brushes her hair every morning. I asked her doctor if she can prescribe an iodine deficiency blood test, but the doctor says it is unheard of that anyone in the US or Canada can suffer iodine deficiency. What can i say or do to convince her to do a test anyways? My mother has Kaiser Advantage plan, so unless her GP orders the test, she can't go to another doctor outside of the Kaiser network to get a blood test.

I would demand the tests to be done - I don’t care what the doctor states.
It’s your insurance and you are paying the doc.
      They work for you.
Demand the test to be done - or take matters into your own hands, and purchase Lugol’s solution, and have her try it, for herself.

Thank you for yhis video...I would really appreciate your advice please...I'm 77 years old this year...about 53 years ago I had to have an X-ray for my kidneys, and I was given Iodine injections... while waiting on the table before the X-ray was taken...I became paralysed from my neck down...I had to wait afterwards until all the symptoms cleared up...I really can't remember if I was given anything to help it or not... Whenever I tried anything containing Iodine, I became really sick...Kelp, any medication containing Iodine... I cannot take or have it applied on my skin... I do have Allergy problems besides the Iodine...
At one time I did have Iodised salt... but then went on to Himalayian Salt...
My mother was also allergic to Iodine...
But now, I have Hypothyroid problems... but really am very unsure of what is the best way for me to treat my Thyroid... Please could you help me to understand the way I ought to go with it...I'd be very grateful, many thanks 😊

Regrettably while iodized salt may be a good thing, we now know regular salts contain microplastics hence using Himalayan salt of Celtic salt which has a much safer profile is advantageous. Using Lugol's Iodine either topically or orally can be used. Other forms of iodine certainly should not be taken orally.

What if I have too much iodine in my body?
We have to be careful when we buy seaweed. Some come from polluted Ocean. Do you think we can get mercury and pollution from oceans when eating seaweed?
I learn that Eden company is a trustworthy company that sell clean, healthy seaweed. I like nori.
Dr Rudy and Jeanie Davis said that raw organic meat of coconut has iodine. And coconut can help prevent memory problems too.

Too much will also cause a goiter. People in Japan eat 10+ grams a day due to their heavy seaweed diet. Doesn't seem to be a problem. It's hard to get to much if it's from an actual food source and not a suppliment.

@arsalanaspires i have hypothyroidism been having pressure in my throat, weight gain all those symptoms. Did a iodine skin patch test it was gone in 7 hours.
I know to take iodine and selenium helps but my first time taking it. Is there a right ratio to start off? On no medication.
I have selenium yeast 200mcg and kelp 150 mcg of natural iodine from 30mg organic kelp.
I know with kelp you have to be careful. Will it be safe to take them both doses to start off with? Or taking the selenium and cutting half of the kelp tablet ?

It's going to depend on the person. Some may do fine with less, some need more. The amount he lists is the average. I happen to do just fine with the amount he lists for women, I just have to be careful that it comes from mineral sources instead of the ocean. I have a lot of ocean-related allergies so I have to be careful. Contamination has bitten me in the butt before.
I need significantly more than the RDA of vitamin C, potassium, & magnesium, and significantly less of iron. In fact, I have to be careful not to eat too much red meat because I have borderline high iron levels most of the time, which is really odd because women usually have trouble getting enough.

Had to have my entire thyroid removed. Since then I've taken L- thyroxine. Can I still be iodine deficient?

Yes you have it bad iodine deficiency just because you had your thyroid taken out that's why they took it out in the first place because you was severe iodine at its lowest your doctor that gave you that operation was to stupid to know that was the problem

Always use table idione salt on foods after it's cooked , low sodium idione , I would stay away from vitamins that have higher amounts of idione in mg , it's interesting fact too much of vitamins with over higher dose can make you really sick there is a Daily value intake of idione mg it's best of table salt it does help alot better than those vitamins with crazy amounts in it that is no good I hope this helps someone

150mcg is not even remotely close to the iodine you need.
should be a minimum of 12 GRAMs or two drops of Lugols 5% and could need as much as 50 Grams (not mcg but MG)
The RDA is literally the amount you need to not die not the amount you actually need to live
Its the same with vit C the RDA is just enough so that you don't get rickets not what your body actually needs.
In fact the RDA should be completely ignored

All mammals need iodine. Its concentrated in mamary glands. Deer, and every other land mammal, does just fine.
And why isn't sea salt a good source if sea veg is? And Im sick of best this best that, and nothing else has value. Its just not true.

This sounds more like a low thyroid video than a low iodine video. With Hashimoto’s, an auto immune low thyroid, they say not to take iodine because it helps target the thyroid cells better for the immune system. Put a target on the back so to speak. iodine helps so many other tissues in the body so he should have focused on that. Otherwise, this is really just a thyroid video, and it’s not even correct for Hashimoto’s.

I never ate salt because I didn't like it. Fun fact: despite this, I have higher blood pressure. Anyway, I have thyroid nodules and my doc wanted to observe. Since I am not risking and I remembered that I do not eat salt, I started supplementing with kelp (1 pill 225 mcg iodine).
Now I take 6 of them. It plus primrose oil stopped my hair fall stopped. I had received an androgenic alopecia diagnosis.

    • @KeyClavis
      @KeyClavis ปีที่แล้ว +8

Nope. In fact, iodine lowers your chances of getting gout. Specifically, iodine deficiency can cause thyroid and heart issues that are risk factors for gout.

The amount of false information around iodine on the internet is profound. Pink Himalayan salt has been assayed to show 3x the amount of iodine as iodized salt. 7 confirmed cases of iodine deficiency in the U.S. in the last 42 years! Iodine excess is the real problem for people prone to thyroid disease.
