Better than some other shows. A lot of adaptions of cartoons just copy the super bright colour palettes over to live action which just does not fit, at least they toned down the outfits to darker more realistic colours (maybe with the exception of Aang's)
Same problem I had with the Rings of Power, even in the first few scenes of village folk many farmers etc and not a spec of dirt or tears etc. Watching designers, staff, and even the actors from Lord of the Rings talk about the insane amount of thought and detail that went into the costumes that it made it easier for the actors to get into character.
I like how during the plane crash scene, Sam is sitting there with a blank face, Wren has this look of, "Holy sh*t!" on his face, and Niko is just enjoying it.
It's not their normal media, but I would be interested to see them break down CGI from something like Air Crash Investigation, especially comparing early episodes to more recent ones since there have been a couple recent ones that were remakes of early episodes from about 15 to 20 years earlier to compare the evolution of CGI on the same subject. (FYI: Just gonna post this until they do look at the suggested media, if at all.)
Acorns. Amazing journey, not only this week but the whole TH-cam stuff. From building furniture out of the garage, to now surviving in the wild and living in a van. Congrats on the channel and this week!
The CG bending was pretty good in the Avatar series for sure. But I thought some of the greenscreen/bluescreen work they did was not exceptionally good, at least compared to the level of the Bending. Maybe it is because of the on set lighting not being quite right, or some other factor, but I'd be interested to hear your guys' take.
The bad stuff you we're seeing we're not bluescreen/greenscreen, they used the "Volume", which is essentially a huge curved LED screen that simulates sorroundings, it was great on the mandolarian but it didn't do well on Avatar. They are moving away from The Volume in season 2 tho
11:40 you're looking at the wrong part of the epsiode. earlier on in the streets and apartments the muzzle flashes were so bad they look like LED lights in the barrel. i also think the reloads are them reaching behind, then coming back and slapping the bottom of the rifle with a CGI magazine
I just watched the 1970s Doctor Who serial "The Pyramids of Mars" and there are a couple of effects in episode 2 that I would be interested to see your reaction to. There's a quick bit where a poacher throws a stick and it bounces off an invisible forcefield that looks too good, and there's the best example of someone walking forwards in reverse I've ever seen.
For all that bending budget on Avatar, they couldn't get a wind machine for when they sit on top of the flying buffalo. That hair and cloth does NOT move at all.
since the flying bison bend air to fly they could probably control the air currents around their back to make it more comfortable for the riders. could have been solved with maybe 2 lines of dialogue, but that goes to show how sometimes small details get missed on projects with such massive scope and budget
I specifically recall that it DOES. Know why? Because I remember thinking it wasn't enough movement, but it IS definitely there with some sort of fan. You just suck at paying attention.
Thanks for the kind words about the Avatar Alleyway chase sequence. Also we did not use any practical debris for the earth bending. This was done at Image Engine. I was one of 2 Fx supes on the show. We also did the Kyoshi fight with the fire nation soldiers and the Pakku Katara fight, amongst other bits and bobs here and there. 1:14
When i watched the water simulations my literal first thought was man i can't wait for corridor to see this ! The water simulations are absolutely perfect the best I've ever seen , it's up there with avatar if not better

And it's on streaming. Probably would be TVMA if you gave it a rating. Use a handful and chunky salsa the guy.
Society of the snow looks incredible. So glad you guys felt the same way I did about avatar! I thought they really nailed how elemental bending should look in live action
The *last agni kai fight from ATLA* would be perfect for for the Animators React. It's so stunning! It'd be really awesome if you could take a look at the WoW "The War Within" Cinematic, it's looks so amazing. The "CHARGE " Blender short would be awesome as well. As well as *Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia!* where you could do a comparison to the "live action" Lion King. Also at the end of second Chronicles of Narnia movie there's a big water creature, so it might be cool to see what you think about that. And for stuntmen react It would be cool to see you react to the duel from "Potop", it's really good sword fight
Respect for Sam for not being able to quite follow the light mood while watching Society of Snow clips. It is really hard not to react to images depicting real tragedies like this one. It really hits you.
I think the reason why the last one felt more visceral isn’t because of how they did the shots, but because the director knew they had to pay homage to the lives that were lost. Since it’s based on a true story, the hopelessness and helplessness really solidifies how they had no other choice, whereas with Halo and Avatar, those stories are both fake. Nobody actually died. It’s all just a part of the story, and since we’ve seen that story a million times at this point, the impact is void.
13:58 If Nico wants true to the Halo series then he shouldn't watch season 2 either; the writers show non-stop contempt for the source material, to the point that an admiral calls for one of the coolest moments of the Halo: Reach game and is literally told "no". The visual effects are good, but the writing is still absolutely horrific. The height of the season are the last two episodes, which have some good moments, but it's only better by comparison to the rest.
Hey guys, I found a good one. In masters of the air episode 7 around 28:30 when they drop their bombs a bunch of them appear out of nowhere, some disappear before they hit the ground and a few disappear just as they leave a plane.
the facial expressions between Niko and Wren while watching a Plane Crash scene is the best comedy piece on this channel PERIOD! It also makes Niko look a little bit like a psycho :D
WRONG. It is well written, for a different sci-fi show, not being true to Halo and not being well written are two VERY different things. Just pretend it isn't Halo and it's quite a decent show. Of course one would need to be capable of critical thinking to realize the distinction.
@@cenciende9401 the whole plot is built on holes. While I was watching every single episode I wanted to list all the contrivances and inconsistencies because they popped up in practically every scene. It got beyond simple nitpicks. The story itself is incoherent. It's 'and then' instead of 'therefore' writing, just so the writers can check off the different clichés they wanted to include, and the most connective tissue you get is usually a nonsensical excuse that falls apart after thinking about it for a second. Its not just that it's not halo. It's simply poorly written, but of course yOu'D nEeD tO bE cApAbLe Of CrItIcAl ThInKiNg To ReAlIsE tHaT.
11:03 not to forget that Master Chief is a super soldier and I believe (idrc fully cause not a die hard Halo fan) that he might not be able to physically remove his armor.
11:40 the most glaring muzzle flash issues I found with that episode was when they where moving up the staircase. (At 18:13 in the show) it looks like they have flashlights attached to the end of their barrels lol
As a Canadian, it drives me nuts when fake snow is used on and around actors. It’s just so obvious that it doesn’t interact with their skin and breath and it just looks so bad. These scenes look so great and really convey how scary and miserable an avalanche would be.
Working on movie sets has ruined pretty much ALL winter scenes for me now. I can't unsee it. I KNOW when i'm watching soap suds vs real snow. real snow doesn't dance around and blow upwards as if it is lighter than air. I'm still unimpressed how many big budget movies still use soap suds.
I just rewatched "Waterworld" and the airplane tangled up with the boat scene was knocking my socks off! There are a couple shots that might stump you guys.
Even when he's real we think it's CG, because of the way he moves. You are watching a huge man in full armor moving with a speed and agility no normal human being could match. I suppose they slightly accelerated the footage and used very light materials for the armor. Perhaps in some shots they use smaller, more nimble martial artist or body doubles, under an equally smaller and lighter armor. Old school cinema tricks combined with the latest technology. Those movements make sense in the show, because spartans have superhuman strength and agility, but our brains are having a hard time accepting it.
@@SimplySketchyGT lol, not sure if you’re serious 😂 First of all, it was not a criticism, but an observation. It seemed interesting to me, because apparently he was played by a person in this scene, but it didn’t look/feel like it. Secondly, without his mask he doesn’t look CG, is he now not a video game character anymore?🤷♂️ it’s a live action interpretation of a game, not an in game cinematic 😉
@@matiasdevaglia4541 yes you’re right, he definitely moves too quickly and lightly for our brains to accept it. I’m not familiar with the story, but in this case that definitely makes sense!
The only thing I don't like about the water bending in the show is that you can see a lot of the water dripping down from what's floating in the air, but the volume of water never changes. What I'm saying is that there's too much water falling back down to the ground for it to make sense.
Same small issue i had, to much water was falling from the form that was meant to all "bended" so it just looks like they are controlling a small volume inside that then has a secondary volume around that that drips, just looks needlessly over complicated
The true events behind Society of the Snow are mind boggling. One of the young men who traveled through what climbing experts consider unclimbable territory of the Andes, lost his mother and sister on this flight. He was racing against the clock of getting help before the remaining group at the fuselage ate their bodies. He and his sister survived the crash though he had severe head swelling which lead to him being kept near the rear in the cold which ended up saving his life, his sister succumbed to her injuries, don’t ask about the mom. It helped that members of this college rugby team had medical students among their number. LPOTL did a three part series on this recently and it’s an amazing story of perseverance.
That last one is also a great example of "shaky cam" done properly. It kinda irks me that shaky cam gets knocked so much as a technique rather than the execution. The films that popularized it - the Bourne films - also set the standard for its correct use. Society of the Snow understands this quite well. Shaky cam should not take the subject out of focus, but rather through relative motion, it should take the background or foreground out of focus, simulating quick motion. This keeps the camera, and thus the viewer, attached to the intensity of the scene, perhaps even attached directly to the set the actors are on. I just thought that was worth pointing out.
A lot more gruesome showing how the people were being crushed than in the first movie. The sad part was if they had walked *up* the valley, there was a ski resort (they didn't know about) closed for the season with food and shelter. Read the book back in the 80s and saw the movie later (90's?)
Society of Snow is an amazing movie. I had listened to a number of podcasts that covered the event in great detail before watching it (all using books/first-hand accounts as source material) and the authenticity the film brought was amazing and disturbing. The acting, the cinematography, the effects - amazing. I remember hearing about how people were crushed by seats behind them in the impact, and to see that visualized in the film was chilling.
Sam’s slowly developing cynicism to all modern-day Hollywood is my favorite developing arc on this series. May he continue to doubt all remakes and behind the scenes cuts 🙏🏻👏🏻

Even then... Some of the vfx are absolutely incredible. And other parts are so uncanny that it completely takes you out of the show. Like literally every time they just use a fully CGI person is soooooo bad
I grew up in a place with a lot of snow, and I can say you can pretty much always tell fake snow in film if you're used to seeing the real thing. Wether it's the movement, the texture, the way light refracts off it or just the actors straight up not looking cold at all, there's always a tell. Society of Snow took a lot of risk but it was so worth it
It would have been fun to see you guys contrast the effects in Society of the Snow with the effects in the older movie based on this event: Alive (1993). Apart from that, another great episode!

You guys should look at the original 1999 Walking with Dinosaurs TV series from the BBC.
That's not really something that needs to be discussed though. That would be like them looking at the CGI work in say, The Backyardigans.
I wouldn't be interested to see that
Same I’ve always been impressed by those shows ESPECIALLY the newer ones and I would love to see a FULL episode on that
I love the interaction between these three! Very different personalities but they all play off each other really well!
11:40 you're looking at the wrong part of the epsiode. earlier on in the streets and apartments the muzzle flashes were so bad they look like LED lights in the barrel. i also think the reloads are them reaching behind, then coming back and slapping the bottom of the rifle with a CGI magazine
13:30 I noticed that too there’s a lot of small cgi quirks like that especially with like the hdr the cgi characters will be like not hdr it’s weird
2:00 that move reminds me of the attack in Control
oh yeah!
Control Remedy?
@@penyuwan Yep! That one
I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING
Love that game
I just watched the 1970s Doctor Who serial "The Pyramids of Mars" and there are a couple of effects in episode 2 that I would be interested to see your reaction to. There's a quick bit where a poacher throws a stick and it bounces off an invisible forcefield that looks too good, and there's the best example of someone walking forwards in reverse I've ever seen.
For all that bending budget on Avatar, they couldn't get a wind machine for when they sit on top of the flying buffalo. That hair and cloth does NOT move at all.
Anyone seeking immersion? @@Killllr0y
@@Killllr0ydid you somehow stumble into this comment section without realizing what this channel is about? Cause ur question is pretty stupid
@@ChuckleCharlie69🤡🤡
since the flying bison bend air to fly they could probably control the air currents around their back to make it more comfortable for the riders. could have been solved with maybe 2 lines of dialogue, but that goes to show how sometimes small details get missed on projects with such massive scope and budget
I specifically recall that it DOES. Know why? Because I remember thinking it wasn't enough movement, but it IS definitely there with some sort of fan. You just suck at paying attention.
15:25 "Urrrgh, did you see that?! 😨" - "Yeah 😎"
3:31 Missed opportunity to say "take for GRANITE"
I am both warmed and pleased to see someone else picked up on that 😂
For that you need to watch History for Granite lol
Rick Sanchez entered the chat
15:54 the way they shot and directed this is fantastic.
Shoutout to Society of the Snow - great film!!
The water simulations are absolutely perfect the best I've ever seen , it's up there with avatar if not better
they reminded me of the ones from the fifth Harry Potter film, where Dumbledore makes a water sphere during the final fight against Voldi.
A really good balance when 3 of you on the sofa! Loving it, digging all the insightful explanations.
3:30 "Take for granite."
That tasteful water dropping onto snow shot is incredibly satisfying! It's just so perfect!
The needler scene, there was only one needle used so honestly the explosion was too big, you wanted half a clip in that guy hahahaha
Pretty sure it's supposed to be a critical mass situation, just one alone shouldn't blow up. Haven't watched the show, and little things like this tend to bug me. Handful? Sure, I'd buy that. And it's on streaming. Probably would be TVMA if you gave it a rating. Use a handful and chunky salsa the guy.
Society of the snow looks incredible. So glad you guys felt the same way I did about avatar! I thought they really nailed how elemental bending should look in live action
Please do an animators react on Frieren! There are a lot of amazing scenes, but especially the fight in episodes 25 & 26. Just incredible.
I love when niko is on the show. So knowledgable and is super chill, 10/10.
This channel just makes me happy. Thank you for existing, Corridor Crew.
Can y’all have a “stuntmen react to professional wrestling”??? These are some crazy stuntmen moves being performed LIVE!
Thank you for doing society of the snow! It is a phenomenal movie and I concur with everything Niko said!
TV Mister Chef: loses armor cause he did a no-no 😴
Game Master Chief: Captain commands him to surrender his AI. He replies "No, sir."😎
Respect for Sam for not being able to quite follow the light mood while watching Society of Snow clips. It is really hard not to react to images depicting real tragedies like this one. It really hits you.
There is a movie called Alive that is about the same crash. Came out in the 90's or early 2000. Super good
‘92 I think
Can you guys take a look at 2008 Journey to the Center of the Earth and the sequel?
the facial expressions between Niko and Wren while watching a Plane Crash scene is the best comedy piece on this channel PERIOD! It also makes Niko look a little bit like a psycho :D
Most of Halos visual design is pretty good. Even the acting is pretty great. If only they had some decent writers.
11:03 not to forget that Master Chief is a super soldier and I believe (idrc fully cause not a die hard Halo fan) that he might not be able to physically remove his armor.
no he can remove it

3 body problems boat spaghettification has got to be added to the list!
I dunno if I'd call it 'spaghettification'. More like 'cheese slice'. But it was great! 😆
Yes! That scene was great! Just binged that series yesterday and REALLY enjoyed it
Surprised they didn't notice that the shot looks like it warps again at 9:54. That whole sequence is just jarring and jumpy.
Oh, for live action Avatar: The Last Airbender, can we see you react to the koizillia water monster in the last episode? 😍🦖🌊
Watched it yesterday on the website. A longer version. Which makes me better. Love you guys.
Ok Mr Money
Check out the deaging/cgi in Billy Joels new music video Turn the lights back on. Best i’ve seen
It's so weird how Master Chief looks so CG in the first fight scene...🤔
So weird how a video game character looks so CG
Even when he's real we think it's CG, because of the way he moves. You are watching a huge man in full armor moving with a speed and agility no normal human being could match. I suppose they slightly accelerated the footage and used very light materials for the armor. Perhaps in some shots they use smaller, more nimble martial artist or body doubles, under an equally smaller and lighter armor. Old school cinema tricks combined with the latest technology. Those movements make sense in the show, because spartans have superhuman strength and agility, but our brains are having a hard time accepting it.
For the running sequence they had Master Chief on wires and were pulling him along as he’s running to get him going even faster
@@SimplySketchyGT lol, not sure if you’re serious 😂
First of all, it was not a criticism, but an observation. It seemed interesting to me, because apparently he was played by a person in this scene, but it didn’t look/feel like it.
Secondly, without his mask he doesn’t look CG, is he now not a video game character anymore?🤷♂️
it’s a live action interpretation of a game, not an in game cinematic 😉
@@matiasdevaglia4541 yes you’re right, he definitely moves too quickly and lightly for our brains to accept it.
I’m not familiar with the story, but in this case that definitely makes sense!
12:53 when i saw that bird scene in the episode i was like wait a minute and i replayed it again, same reaction like wren😂
Yeah, it also seems like extra work, to animate the water that's falling.
4:20 Cue Turbulent Displacement clip
“The shadows make the VFX work really well.” Yeah-because you can barely see them.
Best comment 😂
It's odd that they seemed to forget what low lighting does for a shot.
A lot more gruesome showing how the people were being crushed than in the first movie. The sad part was if they had walked *up* the valley, there was a ski resort (they didn't know about) closed for the season with food and shelter. Read the book back in the 80s and saw the movie later (90's?)
Posted 29secs ago! Im late! My apologies gentlemen.
Compared to season one, that fight with the Elites, was SO MUCH BETTER.
Another great episode people. Keep it going. We are here to support. Greetings from HAMBURG ;)
Sam’s slowly developing cynicism to all modern-day Hollywood is my favorite developing arc on this series. May he continue to doubt all remakes and behind the scenes cuts 🙏🏻👏🏻
Those 'Shin-Scrunches' were legitimately UNCOMFORTABLE.
You guys need to focus more on the Halo season 2, there's so much vfx work thats easily spotted would be a good vid
Literally watched Society Of The Snow last night, best movie I've seen all year, they didn't miss a heartbeat and told the story to really bring it home so you can appreciated the devastation of those peoples situation
the vfx in avatar are fine. It's the directing and storytelling that just falls short
Society of Snow took a lot of risk but it was so worth it
Every fight scene we saw was in complete darkness. Is there a law that forbids light on tv shows anymore?
Way to hide not so perfect effects.
Man I know nothing about vfx (I’m a game programmer) but I get so hyped when this show comes out!! Keep going guys and thank you
It would have been fun to see you guys contrast the effects in Society of the Snow with the effects in the older movie based on this event: Alive (1993). Apart from that, another great episode!
You guys should check out hot air balloon accident at the beginning of the film Enduring Love. One scene in particular with a man loosing his grip on a rope - so well done (very Hans Gruber). That effect left an impression.
First and foremost, I love what y'all do. Your content consistenly enriches my life! I think there may be a shot worth looking into for a future ep. Raising Hope, pilot episode, young Jimmy is looking through a hole in their car and for network TV in 2010 I was surprised with how it looked. Maybe I'm just out of touch but either way much love to you all over at Corridor 🤟
The best single shot in a movie...the opening scene of Boogie Nights, by Paul Thomas Anderson :)
You guys should look at the original 1999 Walking with Dinosaurs TV series from the BBC.
Not only does it have a great blend of practical and cg elements, it was also the very first attempt to show dinosaurs as living animals in a documentary rather than as movie monsters. Plus if you can catch them, there are a few shots where the dinosaur models clip through themselves. 😂
Definitely worth a look!
5:32 - that looks nothing like the water on the ISS?
Bad batch season 3 - some of the water and ship rendering is just... *chef's kiss*
Bright scenes in Halo S2 are gorgeous. When the gold needs to shine it shines.
7:16 good lord that was worded perfectly 😂
