    I like the appeal of both cities. As a foodie, I could easily see myself enjoying the hawker centres in Singapore as well as the street markets in Taipei. I almost see myself visiting Singapore first especially with how amazing the airport is.

    Love both cities, but I prefer Singapore.
    1. Clean and very nice people. It's kind of like Japan.
    2. English
    3. FOOD! More variety. Malay, Chinese(all varieties), Indian, Western.
    4. Attractions!
    Downside is that Singapore has gotten way more expensive...in everything.

    We do have night markets in Singapore known as basar malam. They are sporadic and seasonal, usually during Chinese New Year or Hari Raya periods. Temporary (usually a month) tents are set up to house stalls of food, cloths, furniture and household products etc. Or you can visit the heartlands' central where many pop up stalls sell many wares only in the mornings.

    This is the best and most accurate travel video comparing the two cities. I can’t find even one mistake or misunderstanding about the two cities. Oh, maybe there is a minor one I should say, Singlish is basically English, but with not so accurate sentence structure, vocabulary and accent, and is added with some (maybe less than 5%) other local languages or slang. Therefore, it is not a mix of a few languages (which can be construed as those languages have equal proportion) and will be incomprehensible to foreigners. The truth is, an English-speaking person will have no problem at all understanding Singlish, as you have concluded.

    To me, the choice comes down to the length of the trip. If it’s a short stay, I think Singapore wins. As my wife has extended family there, we’ve visited Singapore many times. I’d say three or four days allows you enough time to see the spectacular that Singapore offers Gardens by the Bay, Jewel, Marina Bay Sands, Sentosa). Longer than that and it can get a little plain. Taiwan, on the other hand, favors longer visits, as some of the spectacular outdoor vistas require travel to get to (Tarik Gorge as an example).
    Food wise, I’d take Sing. I’ve always found the food in Taiwan far less to my taste than Sing. But others with different tastes may disagree.
    If cost is a factor, Sing hotels are very expensive.

  • @BillGreenAZ

    Singapore = Asia Lite
    This is simply because of the language.
    I"m glad you mentioned a ferry ride to Indonesia. There's a 60-minute ferry ride to Batam, Indonesia from Singapore's Harbourfront. Lots of cheap shopping can be had here. The exchange rate is very good too. When I was spending time in Singapore my friends told me "everyone is a millionaire when they go to Batam" because the Indonesian Rupiah is so devalued.

    Singaporean here, thank you for your video. Just one thing to add pertaining to seasons. Along with the boring wet/dry seasons comes with a super bonus which Singapore enjoys: we do not suffer any natural disaster here, as we are not on tectonic plates, and are well protected and block by our many neighboring countries from other sort of natural disaster. Thus no earthquakes, no typhoon, no tsunami, nothing.

  • @detachedmind
    @detachedmind 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    I tend to think of Taipei as a more lived in Singapore. It's really hard to find any old buildings in Singapore, with anything from the 1970's or older getting redeveloped. I think the scooter culture in Taipei is pretty cool. It's much more controlled than other places in Asia. I wouldn't call Singapore's mass transit expensive and now you can use any* CC with a chip instead of a metro card. English does go far in both cities, with taxis being the only place that I've needed to communicate with the help of my phone. The drivers have usually been older men that speak Mandarin. You missed one other "season" in Singapore, the smoke season. Fires in Indonesia intentionally set to clear land create enough smoke to become a big problem at certain times of the year in Singapore. Both cities are great places to visit and are easy to get around using buses and the metro.

    • @gloriagloria5377
      @gloriagloria5377 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Why is old buildings is the only thing for you to measure that the country will looked better. There are a lot of old churches, temples and mosques that were of course spruce up. Old Bungalows especially built by the British. They are still there. Chinatown, they are also old. So how old do you want it to be old to be in your criteria? 😢

    If just one probably Singapore. But Taipei is way cheaper. Also consider the climate, Singapore is hot and humid all year round no way out of it. Taipei is pleasant between November to April. Singapore is more modern and cleaner. But thing is with Singapore once you have been there once and have seen the major spots I don’t see any value of returning. Taiwan is a larger country so you can explore cities outside Taipei with the HSR and go to Taichung and all the way south to Kaohsiung.

    If you want a mix of Chinese-Malay-Indian culture and food and a glimpse of the future it's Singapore (but EXPENSIVE) if you want a more traditional Chinese city experience and to save money it's Taipei. Also the weather is completely different...Taipei has seasons and the Fall leaf change, whereas Singapore is on the equator and is VERY hot and humid year round. In terms of safety, cleanliness, transportation, foodieness, and overall friendliness, I'd rate them the same.

As for Japan, I have had stayed there for months and have visited many places throughout Japan. As for safety, all Asia countries such as China, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan are very safe. Of course, talking about public transportation affordability, China and Taiwan are cheaper. Japan is the most expensive, try their Taxi and you will know. These are my experiences from my travel trips. Lol if anything, locals find the government too forgiving given the number of foreigners who broke the law and got away with just a slap on the wrist.

      @@AlfariziZakariaSingapore’s ruling party is able put competent people who care about the long term well being of the country into office.
      In comparison 99% of the politicians elected in Taiwan are either retarded or corrupt. They are only good at making the lives of their political rivals miserable while secretly enriching their bank accounts

    If I had more choice, I'd prefer Kaohsiung to Taipei and Singapore, as Taipei is far less friendly and less scenic than Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan. If it were just between Taipei and Singapore, I'd go for Taipei. I found Singapore dirty, very unfriendly, very boring, souless, and cultureless.
