The 5 new gates are "I enter tap i tap for one of the five colors and i can tap for other color that you choose when i enter" And blame Eddy if i'm not correct!

As a note for anyone searching Scryfall, you can get around the issue he had here ("investigate" cards) by entering " gate" into your search, with the space inside the quotation marks. That seems to be getting rid of investigate cards for me.

Im a little sad that they made this 3 color and not 5. That was a total slap in the face.. I was hoping to get a new Gates commander that will let me use all 22 gates +mazes end.
How hard would it have been to staple on a crappy activated ability that makes it 5 color? Maybe something like: 3RW: target creature gains double strike until end of turn. I dunno, any number of useless(not very good) abilities could have been added to make this a sweet 5 color gate commander. They do this on random legendary creatures in standard sets for exactly this reason but apparently can't do it here smh
I feel like with all 5 colors and the ability to look at 9 cards every time with 22 cards of your deck being gates it would be way too strong but maybe I’m wrong
I’m glad this card is only 3 colours, not every creature has to be 5c, some cards can be used for SUPPORT for 5c decks rather than the commander itself
there are already 8 gates revealed at this point one of each color and 3 without coloridentity. With the previous 4 we have exactly enough at the moment for each three colored deck (like Nine-Fingers Keene) to use Maze's End. Personally I would disencourage Gate strategies unless you can use multiple gate matter cards or have landfall synergy. I don't know how Gond Gate interacts with tutors that put lands from your library/hand/graveyard onto the battlefield tapped. But if my huntch is correct it will work similar to Amulet of Vigor. Which might be reason enough for some decks to run them (even without gate synergies). Circuitous Route and Explore the Underdark might be able to put Gond Gate and any other gate from you deck into play Untapped. Maybe even work with: "Patron of the Moon", Risen Reef, Wren and Seven, Loam Dweller, Averna, Hour of Promise, Realm Razer, Scapeshift, Splendid Reclamation, Thrasios, World Shaper etc.
I've been having fun doing a sort of Voltron deck: You build her up, dare people to do something, and then counter it with tricks. It still does gate stuff, but I really enjoy the mini game that happens every time I ask "So, you're paying the 9 life?".
There are 10 Gate's we can use in Nine Fingers Keene deck: Existing: Dimir Guildgate Golgari Guildgate Simic Guildgate Gateway Plaza New Baldur's Gate Gond's Gate Heap Gate Sea Gate Black Dragon Gate Manor Gate This will give us the 10 Gates needed for Maze's End :)
So... Dimir Guildgate, Golgari Guildgate, Simic Guildgate, Black Dragon Gate, Manor Gate, Sea Gate (6) add Black/Green/Blue Mana... Gateway Plaza, Heap Gate, Gond Gate, Baldur's Gate (4) can add mana of any color... Basalisk Gate (1) can add colorless mana or spend 2 to give a creature +X/+X... So total 11 Gates for this commander. I think it'll be better as part of the 99 for a different Gates Commander. 11 Guildgates+Gateway Plaza and the ChoiceGates make the deck extremely flexible with duelcolor lands. Gateway Plaza, Heap Gate, Gond Gate and Baldur's Gate are all insane. And Basalisk Gate just for the 20th's gate land. How many lands are in a commander deck usually? Wizards should make a new planeschase anthology but with a dungeons and dragons theme! Instead of planes you travel to different dungeons and instead of the planar die you just roll a d20 and the dungeon will have different things happen based on what you roll like D1-10 create a food token D10-15 create a treasure token D15-20 create one of each
In limited, like draft or sealed, the game mode they are building this set for, you do not need to abide by the singleton format for your 60 card commander deck in constructed Commander we will have 3 dual color, 3 mono color, gateway plaza, Baldur's Gate, Gond's Gate. that gives us 9. there are also rumors we will get two more gates since there are 9 gates in Baldur's Gate (the city in D&D) and that would give us a grand total of 11 that we can use in Sultai.

So forgive me if Im wrong. But would the commander's ability be a draw effect? The Commander says "Look at the top 9 cards of your library." "...Put the cards into your hand." If you can't look at the top 9 cards wouldn't the rest of the ability just fail to activate?
There is an alternate means of getting the gate numbers up by means of land animation and cloning. Being in simic opens up this option. Aside from that, the most efficient option is probs self mill and mass land recursion.
I think archelos will still be the better mazes end commander just because the fates xome in untapped. But yes. You have like 9 gates now in 3 colors and a few cards like vesuva and thespian stage/mirrage mirror that can become gates

Wait, as far as I know land tenically are colourless permanent, because they don't have a mana cost and so you can put all the gate in the deck regards of commander's identity.
color identity is based on cost as well as mana production. for example, if you have a colorless artifact and it taps for one green mana it is considered to have a color identity of green. cards that tap for any color get around this by not specifically stating what color they tap for
How is 'barely-viable' considered "exciting?" If the leaks are correct, there are exactly 9 gates for this commander. You'll be at your opponents' mercy if they strip mine even one of your gates. Not to mention, Mazes' End is literally unplayable without shenanigans.
In Sultai you should have enough recursion to be able to recur lands in the grave. Golgari as I recall is fairly good at that, so it actually isn't a huge issue.

I could understand if you needed 9 and had access to 12-14, but needing 9 and having access to 9 is not making me very confident.
There will be 11 usable gates if the last 2 unrevealed gates are playable in Sultai. Along with land copiers, hitting 9 is not too hard. Also, not everyone needs a commander to be cEDH powered like Urza or Narset to find it exciting.
Except you can't. Because of the mana symbols on the card, you can't put them in a deck if those mana symbols also don't match the color identity of your commander. It's the reason you can't put Golos in everything. 903.4. The Commander variant uses color identity to determine what cards can be in a deck with a certain commander. The color identity of a card is the color or colors of any mana symbols in that card’s mana cost or rules text, plus any colors defined by its characteristic-defining abilities (see rule 604.3) or color indicator (see rule 204).
This is technically not true you can run all the gates in your deck with her as the commander because lands are colorless. Ignore this forgot about the color identity thing
How many people actually don't read the rule on color identity for Commander? Like i know you edited it and all but this is the 3rd time i seen that in this comment section, one would assume someone would know the basic rules for making a deck for a format. Now one i don't agree with and many don't as well is that if a land or permanent or whatever can tap for either as Hybrid mana it is both colors instead for rules sake
It is not that good as a gate comander. being 3 colors making you miss 7 gates, at least, is too much but it is realy good as new creature for gate decks, since thare are few creatures that interact with gates with good effects. It is good with Aqueous Form as it not only make it un blokable but also lets you scry 1 on attack to help you reach your gates.
Why make a Gates commander that's NOT 5 colors? You have legitimately limited the number of gates you can use in a commander deck as the commander. Great in the 99 but even with the new gates coming you only have the option of BARELY 9 gates (guildgates, dnd gates, 4 extra gates)
There's gonna need to be a LOT of gates in the new set if you're supposed to have 9 gates in a 3-color deck
So far, there is a guaranteed 9 gates for this deck. 2 gates have yet to be spoiled/revealed. In the end, the deck may have 11 gates.
Except two of the leaked Gates, Citadel Gate and Cliffgate, aren't in the right colors leaving only 7 from this set able to go with this comander

There is also Vesuva and Thespian Stage, they are both land and the can change to become a different land. So the count toward the 9 gates in play.

Where did you get 22 gates? There's only 18 by my count.

Not technically a draw effect. It doesnt say "draw" so think of it kind of like how hexproof only protects against stuff that says "target".

It is not that good as a gate comander.
being 3 colors making you miss 7 gates, at least, is too much but it is realy good as new creature for gate decks, since thare are few creatures that interact with gates with good effects.
It is good with Aqueous Form as it not only make it un blokable but also lets you scry 1 on attack to help you reach your gates.

Why make a Gates commander that's NOT 5 colors? You have legitimately limited the number of gates you can use in a commander deck as the commander. Great in the 99 but even with the new gates coming you only have the option of BARELY 9 gates (guildgates, dnd gates, 4 extra gates)
