Peloton Best Alternative - Cheap and Brilliant Setup

  • You've all seen the adverts for Peloton. It's literally everywhere at the moment. I was pondering last year about getting a spin bike due to the dull UK weather this time of year. While the Peloton bike looks and reviews highly, that £2500 price tag is insane. Add on top of that the montly subscription, its a big wedge of dish to find each month and you may not enjoy or keep it up.
    I thought to myself wouldn't it be a fantastic to keep ontop of the fitness during the bad winter months of rain, wind, and horrid mud. So, I started looking for the perfect Peloton alternative.
    The market is littered with choice, but the same brand kept coming up trumps; JLL. As usual there are so many models in the range you are then bombarded with more options. After much research and stricking it lucky on the facebook market place I found the IC300 Pro. Cracking reviews and all the features I wanted. i.e belt driven, 20kg flywheel, cadence monitor and suitable for taller riders.
    An old TV hooked up to the amazon firestick then allowed me to take full advantage of the Peloton App but at a fraction of the cost, £12.99 a month. That's after the 30 free trail I totally smashed.
    I was addicted after the first week of hard sessions. If you do them properly it's such a great workout. In only 2 weeks of riding I'd lost 2.6kg. That was aided by eating better though.
    I think the point is really, lockdown sucks and the weather matches that too. This is a great alternative to keep fit and stay on track.
    Enjoy

    Just bought this 2nd hand after watching this video and its really great. Still using the free 30 day peloton trial with it. Btw There is no need for a separate cadence sensor! It displays RPM on the LCD display. Cadence is *exactly* the same as RPM. As for peloton, turned my nose up at the beginner classes thinking would be too soft and gentle, best start with the advanced beginner class. Well, it nearly killed me. It was brutal. The classes are quality. So Best starting with beginners classes to learn proper form and gradually build muscle and condition yourself for the seat. It takes about 10 days, which will be the most punishing brutal days of all the spin sessions with soreness, before you can tackle advanced spin techniques and classes imo. Have no doubt, the bike is an absolutely brutal workout. I was scared after using a treadmill for 50min 10Ks it couldn't possibly compete as I never seem to get my heart rate up too far on a ordinary bike ride, but have no fear you will be drench in sweat and breathing hard after 20 mins. After 10 days it does get a lot easier and then you get hooked on the classes. I can see why people pay the 12 quid monthly peloton fee for variety and psychologically you really do look forward to them. I believe there is also a new apple version of peloton which is way cheaper around 8 quid a month. Some information for any wobbly pedals or flywheel; I bought some new bearings (pairs of 6001ZZ and 6004ZZ) for the flywheel and pedals, since it's 2nd hand just in case anyone needs to overhaul the bike these are listed online in the manual for jjl website in the exploded diagram and cost about £10 for both pairs via eBay. You can see youtube videos on how to fit bearings to bike pedals or spin bike flywheels.

      It was resistance i meant 😂 glad it worked out though. Thanks

    • @SlobberySlob
      @SlobberySlob 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MikesMTBAdventures agreed. The resistance % is not critical as you can only really approximately push the resistance even if you had a full peloton with calibrated resistance due to your own fitness level. You learn to use the right resistance for your body after a while being in the right rpm range as the instructor. All peloton instructor resistances are usually huge ranges from 45 to 60% or 50 to 70%. If you put on more load your cadence will drop too low. The cadence range is far more important to stick to than the resistance range.
