    The school is left unlocked for visitors. It’s maintained by volunteers.

      Ahhh, I didn't know that - I didn't try the door to see if it was locked. It's just my habit to not enter the old buildings, but it's nice they let people go in and look around 👍

    Nice adventure but if the town of friend was the end of the rail line what was the purpose of the train to start with that went all the way to friend and put a Depot on all that was it agricultural was it cattle or what always a little bit bewildered as to why a train went all the way to that distance there must have been some commerce going on 🤔

      The Great Southern was extended to Friend to tap into the local timber resources, it also carried agricultural products, general merchandise, and passengers The Dalles and surrounding communities.
